About Steve Young

I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.

As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.

My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

Steve Young purchased this house in 2015

Why Steve Young chose Cobden

Location, Location, Location. This property was a beautiful home and needed just minor updates on the flooring, and the view was spectacular. The property was previously owned by a little old lady who built it as her retirement home.

The proximity to wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

Fabulous home with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time hanging out with family in the VRBO. Everything you might want is at hand, the furnishings are comfortable, and the little basket of treats (and coffee for the morning) are so thoughtful. There are board games and books on the shelves, magazines to flip through, and a flat screen, if you need to veg out. I just have to say that the flooring in this place is stunning. You might have to sit down and stare at it for a while. I grew up in southern Illinois, and the outdoor landscape is so familiar, I sometimes forget to mention how serene and lovely the meadows and oak woodlands are that surround the place. If you're coming from an urban setting, you'll love the quiet beauty. Steve, the owner, is delightful. He has accommodated our strange arrival times with no problem, and is available by phone or text for any additional questions. We've stayed here a couple times and have found it super convenient to Anna (to the south), and Carbondale (to the north). I highly recommend this get-away!

Great house and setting!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this house and surroundings justice. The house is beautiful and the decor and special hard wood floors make it feel warm and welcoming. The woods in the back and the meadows in the front offer fantastic views! Steve was great and very responsive. We had an amazeing time and hope to return soon.
