About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 8 adults and 8 children)

Soak up the best the Northwest has to offer! This amazing 4-bedroom lakefront home on Lake Cavanaugh is the ultimate retreat for family and friends - and only 90 minutes north of Seattle with no ferry.

Nestled amongst old-growth Douglas firs and Cedar trees and on 90+ feet of waterfront, this spectacular custom home was completed in 2011. Enjoy the amazing views of Lake Cavanaugh (the quintessential NW mountain lake) and beautiful Frailey Mountain from the wraparound covered deck. Fir-trimmed windows connect you to the outdoors from every room, making it the perfect year-round getaway.

The house has 4 bedrooms (3 cal king beds + 1 queen) & 4 full bathrooms, as well as a massive bunk room. Our lakehouse sleeps 8 adults & 8 children very comfortably. An open chef's kitchen was designed with cooking and entertaining in mind - you'll love the huge island with plenty of seating, stainless appliances, wine refrigerator and espresso machine. There are plenty of window benches & cozy couches to curl up and read, nap, play a game or just relax & enjoy the view. The wood fireplace provides warmth and ambiance. The bathrooms are gorgeous and feature heated floors & beautiful tiled showers. You won't miss the big game with 2 flat screen TVs (DirecTv), DVD player and WiFi. We also feature double washer/dryer, and provide all linens and towels (including beach towels). The separately rented guest cabin with 1/2 bath sleeps 2.

Outside, there are never-ending possibilities for fun. Shoot hoops on the sport court, challenge the kids to a game of pickle ball, or take a peaceful canoe ride out on the lake. Bike rides are another great way to get some exercise and see the rest of beautiful Lake Cavanaugh. The beach is the perfect place to spend summer days, playing with the kids and swimming. Our western exposure means sun from 9AM to 9PM. Bring your boat and spend the day water-skiing or tubing. Or, kick back with a good read and a glass of wine on the floating dock or in the hammock - the sunsets are spectacular!

During fall and winter, cozy up in front of the fire with a board game or good book after a bike ride or hike around the Lake. We're 1000 feet above sea level so if it's 37 degrees in Seattle or Vancouver and raining, it's snowing at the Lake.

Your family & friends will leave Lake Cavanaugh wanting to return! We know you will enjoy this piece of paradise as much as our family does.

About Chris Kane

We are a large extended family from Seattle and have been coming to Lake Cavanaugh since 1992. In 2011, we came together to build this exceptional family retreat.

Chris Kane purchased this lodge in 1992

Why Chris Kane chose Northwest & Islands

Our family bought a rustic cabin at Lake Cavanaugh in 1992, and lovingly transformed it into a special vacation spot. Over the years the family grew to include daughters-in-law and lots of grandkids, and we literally outgrew the original 800 sqare foot 2-room cabin.

In 2010 we embarked on a family project to design & build a multigenerational house that our family could enjoy for many years to come.

What makes this lodge unique

We love to take walks and bike rides around the lake, and enjoy cooking family dinners in the large open kichen and eating on the deck. At Lake Cavanaugh you feel far away from the business of life - yet it's only 90 minutes drive from Seattle and Vancouver!

Great for a group to getaway from it all!

We have used this home twice for an executive retreat and it has proven to be exactly the kind of place you need to disconnected and unplug from the office while getting some REAL work done! We had 10 Adults stay the night comfortably and all were comfortable and refreshed throughout. The kitchen, dining, and living room are all connected and make for an incredibly inviting and relaxed environment. It has a modern TV system too and we were able to connect a wireless display adapter no problem, making it the perfect place to put our feet up while still working through a powerpoint deck. The kitchen is just a perfect place to get together while cooking big meals and there are plenty of places to get away from each other and just relax a bit too. This place really has all you could ever hope for a small company retreat and an even better place for up to three families of four to get away from the city and get some relaxing in. We have used it during the winter and we weren't able to use the pickle-ball/basketball court (yes, RIGHT outside the kitchen porch) or the lake, but we look forward to going back in the summer to enjoy the outdoors. Believe all the reviews, this place is EPIC.

Superb Large Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully designed and well equipped home with fabulous lakefront! Lots of room here for our family of 19, with four couples and 11 kids, ages 1-16. Great kitchen, large TV room, greatroom, wrap around deck, and 4 queen/king bedrooms. Ten of the grandkids shared the big bunk room and had a blast. Owners Chris and Kathy were great in sharing their place and making sure we had an excellent family time. We swam, skied and wake boarded, kayaked, paddled, played pickle ball and 'minute-to-win-it', did a scavenger hunt and jigsaw puzzles and ate lots. Some uncommon 'extras' available were the outdoor shower with hot/cold water, water toys, swim platform/trampoline, games, ride-on toys and sport court. It would be hard not to have a great holiday here.

Owner's Response: Thanks to this great family for taking such good care of the Cavanaugh Lake House. Thanks also for sharing the family photo on the beach. We own this little piece of paradise with the next generation and specialize in family reunions.

Such a wonderful place and PERFECT for large groups! All kids want to sleep on the top bunk and I wish you could have seen the look on the four kids when they knew they could all sleep on the top bunk! Everything was absolutely perfect and the only wish I have is that the owners could control the weather!!!

Superlative Lake Home Not Far From Seattle

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 12 adults and 3 kids stayed here for 10 days. This house has something for everyone. The home is gorgeous, well designed, tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming. It has a perfect layout for large groups with a wonderful open kitchen/dining room/living room with large fireplace and plenty of seating. The kitchen is a cook's paradise, and easily accommodates several cooks, with lots of storage, and very nice appliances. There are plenty of spaces to retreat, as well, both inside and out. The media room was (unfortunately!) well used during our stay, because it was quite rainy. But that room was a great place for kids to play (with toys provided by the owners, including--big hit with one of our family members: Thomas trains and tracks), and watch t.v., or for adults to watch t.v. without having the t.v. dominate other activities. There is also a ping pong table in the garage that saw a lot of action during our stay. The sport court is fantastic. We had several lively pickle ball games, as well as basketball, and there were plenty of trikes for the kids to ride around on the paved court. There are also tons of beach toys for kids to use in the sand, and a trampoline island to swim to in the Lake. The Lake is clean, clear, surprisingly warm water (for those of us used to icy northwest lakes!). There's also a charming little stream on the property that was especially attractive to our toddler. There is ample seating inside and out for guests of all ages. The covered portion of the deck was especially nice on rainy days. We used the separate little cabin, which is very accessible (one step up), and quite handy for someone who has difficulty with stairs. The upstairs bunk room is so comfortable for kids--a great play area, with plenty of space to spread out, and separate enough from the rest of the house. It also has its own bathroom. The master bedroom/bath also has a small deck that overlooks the lake. All of the other bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of storage space and very nicely decorated and maintained. The laundry room upstairs is very handy, modern and easy to use. The house is so well equipped in every respect--kitchen, bedrooms, everything you need is there! And, for tall people (our family has 2 over 6'5") the showers, doors, and ceilings gave them the space they loved! It's obvious that the owners put a lot of thought and a lot of love into this property. I can't recommend it highly enough. It really is a premier property.

Klouda Family

The only reason you should pick this property is if you want the best of everything. We felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. Our family had room to visit, play and just relax and enjoy the surroundings. From dawn on the lake watching a beaver visit to the frogs singing at night to setting around the dining room/living room sharing a glass and reconnecting with family it was wonderful. Thanks to the owners for not only putting their love into the cabin, but allowing us to share it.

It could not have been any better!

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to tell the world how fantastic this was, for fear that it will be booked solid and we'll never be able to get a reservation again! I truly can't imaging a better family vacation spot. The house was built and decorated to a very high standard, the owners were helpful and gracious, and the deck/beach/dock/water... perfect. The kids loved the lake, running around the grounds, and playing board games on the deck. The kitchen was a pleasure to work in - everything you need and lots of space for cooking for a big group. Plenty of communal space to be together, but also many quiet corners to sit peacefully and take in the view.
