About Garrett Thelander
My wife and i bought this house because we fell in love with the area (Sharon/Lakeville/Millerton) and loved the feel of this adirondack-style house with all the modern amenities (it was built in 1996). We spend hours on the wraparound porch just savoring the pastoral views. Our kids love the privacy but also the quick access to local beaches at Mudge Pond and Lakeville.
Garrett Thelander purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Garrett Thelander chose Sharon
My wife and i chose this home as a future retirement location. We are very active outdoor types, and we fell in love with the proximity to biking, hiking, and lake activities. Also, there is an abundance of great antiquing, dining options and charming litte villages like Millerton, Salisbury and Lakeville. Lastly, winters are just as fun, as there are three ski resorts within a 30- 45 min drive (Catamount, Butternut, and Mohawk Mountains) and plenty of cross-country skiing.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our house offers a very secluded setting with great views of the countryside, the perfect place to relax and unwind. There is a big lawn that is great for letting kids run around safely. Probably the thing most people like is the large chef's kitchen with an open layout - perfect for entertaining and cooking!

Place was clean, comfortable, and Garrett was so accommodating. The kitchen is our favorite, as it has everything our cooking family needed and the appliances are top of the line. We also enjoyed the views from the deck and yard, and making a cozy fire inside when it got cold. All rooms are spacious and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We would highly recommend and will hopefully return in the future!
We had a great winter weekend at this lovely home. It is even nicer than the photos show.
A very pretty and comfortable house.
Great space for spreading out, using the cozy fireplace, playing pool in the basement, cooking.
The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and clean. Beautiful views from the porch.
An amazing home with amazing views. Very Cozy. A great home to enjoy with your family.
Such a beautiful home. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Very comfortable country style home. We didn’t want to leave the peace and tranquillity with such amazing views in every direction.
Relax and unwind at this secluded hideaway
We rented the house for our son's wedding--close to Lion Rock Farm. Everything you need for a family or group that wants to be together. The kitchen/eating area is spacious, as well as the living and family room. Nice layout not to get in each other's way. The wrap-around porch adds to the appeal of the house. Towels and linens provided so no need to bring them along--even a washer/dryer! Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Wonderful, special place for family fun or peace and quiet.
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely, clean and spacious home. The host is kind and attentive. The setting is really gorgeous. Sunsets from the porch are a must!
Amazing house in the perfect location! Views that never end!
We traveled far and wide from across the globe for a wedding in peak leaf season. The house and location couldn't have been any better!
For six adults we couldn't ask for a better house in terms of rest and relaxation!
We were pleasantly surprised when the owner called us the first evening, just to check in and see if we needed anything else. He's been great to work with!
The kitchen is well appointed with everything a chef could need. Just bring a deck of cards, your own food & drink, and toiletries, and you're good to go!
Groceries: We'd shopped at Costco in Hartford, but later realized that almost everything we could have wanted was available at the local grocer just down the road. While a little more expensive than shopping in a major city, when you figure the cost of time and gas, the local market is a bargain. They even have a sushi chef making a fresh selection daily! You'll likely run into one of the many down to earth celebs that live in Sharon.
The girls walked down to the local salon for mani-pedis ($40), and raved about the service and prices.
If you're lucky, you'll get to see tons of wildlife on and around the property. We were greeted numerous times by two families of deer, rabbits, and countless birds and owls.
The walk to the beach was beautiful! Be sure to pay attention to the beautifully hand carved gates at twin oaks! You can't see the gates from the house, but you can see the oaks!
Being out in rural CT, the cell service is limited. If you have a wi-fi enabled phone you'll be fine since the house, and most of the neighbors have wi-fi. If you don't, you may want to add Google Voice or another wi-fi phone service to your phone before heading out into rural America.
Be sure you check out the local towns, parks, and hikes! They are all stunning!
Kent: If you head to Kent, be sure and check out Kent Coffee (by the tracks), if for no other reason than to drool over their chocolates! The coffee shop on the other end of town may get more advertising, but don't fall for it, you'll only find tourists and bad coffee. Weekdays are the best.
Kent Falls: go on a weekday! The walk to the top is just that, an easy walk! While a WC or stroller may not make it all the way to the top (OK, they won't), there is still plenty for them to see.
Lime Rock: Go on a weekday, late afternoon. Since they were done with their official activity for the day they let us in for free and "explore", even letting us drive on the track!
Very near Mudge Pond, in close proximity to beautiful Lakeville, Lime Rock, Millerton, Amenia, and Hotchkiss and Salisbury Prep schools. Just minutes from the Lion Rock Farm wedding venue in Sharon. Minutes from Mudge Pond Town Beach and Lakeville Beach. Half an hour from Catamount and Butternut ski areas. Great biking, canoing and kayaking all over the area.
