I've been travelling to the Newberry/Curtis area since I was a child, and have always enjoyed my time in the U.P. This land has been in my familiy for over 100 years!
Stephanie purchased this cottage in 1994
We've always enjoyed swimming in the lake, and all the year-round activities in the area. We never miss the chance to visit Lake Superior when we're in town, or other sites like Tahquamenon Falls. The Newberry golf course has always been a favorite.
The large property is extremely private, perfect for late night dips in the lake. It's a perfect atmosphere for kids to explore the outdoors, you're certain to see deer, or even the occasional eagle, whenever you visit.
Stephanie's home is immaculate inside and out. Had a wonderful time boating the lakes in the area, kayaking Pictured Rocks and hiking to various waterfalls. Very good communication with Stephanie before and afterwards. Easy to do business with for sure. Highly recommended.
The home was clean, well stocked and maintained. Highly recommend this home. We used it for a base to take day trips in the UP. It's only a 1 or 1 1/2 hour drive to all the popular attractions. Did spend our free time fishing in Lake Manistique. It was a perfect vacation for our family to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary!
We had a great time, this is not a standard cottage. It is a spacious house and good view of Manistique Lake. The only down side is that the beach area is small, but it was good for our small kids. The lake is shallow and desends slowly so they still had room to play. We were able to visit some attractions and still make it back easily for dinner. A brief warning to anyone with a boat - the lake is shallow and it has some very large boulders submerged, not near the cottage, but around. We almost hit some while trolling.
My husband and four adult children/spouses spent a relaxing week in this beautifully decorated family home on a large lake. There is a dock and a small bit of beach that are perfect for enjoying the water on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Within an hour's drive of Pictured Rocks, Mackinac Island, Taquhemmonen (sp) Falls...it is a great base to explore the area. We rented a pontoon boat for a couple of days and enjoyed hours on the lake. The home is clean and comfortable - not fancy or stuffy. There was no air conditioning which wasn't a problem during our stay - and likely isn't often on the UP - but plan accordingly. The owner was very helpful with great driving directions (it is off the beaten path - a plus!) and a notebook with lots of information on the area. A great value - we would definitely return!
