We just came back from a week long stay at this absolutely stunning home. All the reviews don’t do this place justice. Everything from the neighborhood to the home we’re perfect. We arrived at the cottage and were able to enter with no issues. The home was very impressive. The beds were comfortable, there were plenty of extra pillows and blankets in the closets if needed. Washer and dryer worked perfectly. The kitchen was breathtaking. And among others complaints of the lack of items in the kitchen we had zero issues and didn’t need most of the items that were there. The smell that other reviews complained about we had no issue with. Our pup came along and loved every moment there with us. The neighborhood was very dog friendly and we look forward to returning for years to come. Thank you For such a wonderful vacation! This house is one of the best rentals we’ve stayed at and you’d be missing out if you don’t stay here too!
Spacious, Cozy Harbour Island HOME!
Let me first say, I can't wait to come back! My family of 4 stayed at Kent's home for our annual Gansett vacation in August. We love Harbour Island as it's a great local. We love how close it is to the beach, restaurants and supermarkets. I find myself at Stop & Shop at least every other day.
About the home: I gave our stay 4 out of 5 for the following reasons. When we first walked in, we noticed immediately ALL the dog hair in the kitchen. I was aware that animals were welcome but didn't think much more about it. My husband is allergic to dogs, so the first hour or so of us being there consisted of me sweeping, vacuuming and swiffering the main level of the house, mainly the kitchen area. He felt better the next day when the home was cleaned and aired out a bit. Our other reason for the less than perfect score for this home, was the smell in certain parts of the home :-( The home could benefit from a few dehumidifiers and a good cleaning of the rugs in the ground level. We had a hot and humid week, and although we were grateful for the ACs in the 2 master bedrooms; a few more fans or an AC in the upstairs living area would've been nice to have. One last thing I'd recommend is some more lighting in the bathrooms!!
So aside from this, we did enjoy our stay. *The renovated kitchen was amazing. We loved the open space, although it could've used a few new pans and some kitchen utensils such as tongs, spatula etc.We spent a few nights cooking in the kitchen and even when we grilled, we found ourselves hanging out in this beautiful kitchen.*The beds were SOO comfortable! The bedroom with the 4 twin beds were a hit with our boys. They thought it was fun to switch beds every night as if they were playing musical chairs LOL.
All in all, we had an amazing week. It was more room than we had expected and we all had a week of wonderful sleep from our fun days at the beach! Can't wait to come back!!!
It was great
To the owner - the house needs some work, I like where your going with the kitchen
Overall - Compared to what is out there and what people are "trying' to rent out this was super - we go to this area every year and I look forward to booking the same house next year!
Beautiful house but needs upgrades
Beautiful home, we loved our stay but there are definitely some improvements needed; only 2 air conditioners in a over 2,000 square feet home, should have one in every room or central AC especially since the 2 AC units are only in the master bedrooms and none in the what looks like a children’s bedroom, the upstairs is beautiful but gets extremely hot especially when entertaining a large family, also there are no mirrors throughout the house to get ready, only mirrors were in the 2 bathrooms. Easy fix by installing one in every bedroom. The neighborhood was quaint and the neighbors were very polite, we were greeted as soon as we arrived by a neighbor. Large yard was a plus. The downstairs rug had a lot of stains and smelled. Overall will stay here again.
Nice, quiet, relaxing stay
Our family of four plus our pupper had plenty of room. The neighbors were friendly and street was very quiet. I read previous reviews and hoped the mildew/mold smell was fixed. Unfortunately the smell got worse as the week progressed. We were unable to open the sliders to the lower level which might have helped especially because the TV that we were able to use was located down there. The directions for both TVs were not accurate- our tech savy son got one of them to work. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was gorgeous but lacking in basic items. There were only three coffee cups (one chipped), one chewed up plastic spatula, no large pots. We spent most of our time outdoors on the lovely deck but it would have been nice to have a hose to clean table and chairs . There were great beach chairs but they were dirty and needed a good hosing as well. The yard was large and we enjoyed watching the chipmunks run around and the many types of birds flying by. Overall we were glad we stayed here. If the carpets on the stairs and family room were replaced, a dehumidifier in place and updated kitchen items were available I could see us coming back every year.
Pretty Cool House; Not Ideal for Little Kids; Dryer was Broken; Could've been Cleaner/Less Smelly
We booked this house for our first family vacation. It's really a unique style with a living room upstairs and downstairs and a huge stone fireplace that is on both floors. The neighborhood was really quaint. Everybody was outside all the time walking their dogs, stopping in the street and chatting. It was really welcoming. One neighbor even cut a couple of her beautiful daffodils and gave them to my daughter.
The kitchen was really big and totally updated. All of the appliances were new Samsung stainless. The counters were beautiful and we loved the tall chairs around the island. My only complaint is that the stove was electric instead of gas.
As for the bedrooms- SUPER COMFORTABLE temperpedic beds. We slept great. Wish there were some blackout curtains though as the sun was really bright at 6:00 AM.
The bathrooms were very dated. We couldn't figure out how to plug the bathtub so we had to put our kids in the shower instead. In addition, the bathrooms weren't very clean. There was hair in the showers, the trash hadn't been emptied and the toilets didn't look like they had just been cleaned.
Generally speaking, the house could have been cleaner. The floors seemed to have pet hair on them (both the hardwood and the carpet) and the tile floors near the back door were straight up dirty. I saw some other guests mention an odor in the house so I had reached out to the owner to see if that was an issue. He said it was not. When we arrived, I smelled it right away. It was a musty scent that was occasionally very strong throughout our stay. It was tolerable but I was disappointed that the odor was present.
I was thrilled to see a washer and dryer because with two little kids, a load of laundry is a guarantee. I did the wash, but then the dryer didn't work so we had to spend part of our Saturday morning at the laundromat instead of doing something fun.
We have a 2 1/2-year-old and a 14-month-old so our kids are pretty young which makes going to new places challenging. The biggest issue we had with the safety of our kids was the stairway. Our little guy could actually fit through the railing at the top of the stairs so we were never really able to relax. This note is just to help inform parents of young children that it's not the most babyproofed house.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay but we did wish that a few things were different.
