Every single furnishing is brand new as of May 1st 2012. For 2015 we just purchased a new couch, new living room rugs, and a new refrigerator. We designed this unit to be clean and modern, but still have a vibe of the islands.

We purchased and set up this 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo primarily so that our two daughters could grow up and have Maui be a big part of their lives.

Our program is that we load up our girls, ages 8 months and 3 in the morning at our home in the Columbia Gorge, fly out of Portland International and arrive in Kahului in early afternoon. We then rent a car, load up the suitcases and head to Kihei.

My wife and I typically bring along a sibling and/or friend and their family because the condo can easily accomodate 2 families. Once we arrive at Koa Resort, we simply enter a door code for the condo and we're in. Then it's a mad dash to dig out swimsuits and either head to the beach across the street or the gigantic pool on the grounds.

My wife and I typically take the loft master bedroom. It has its own bathroom and a king size bed with a tempurpedic foam mattress.

My sister and her husband set up camp in the downstairs bedroom that has a queen size bed. The palms right outside its window make for a cool effect, especially as the trade winds rustle their leaves.

The kids all quickly begin squabbling over who gets which bunk. All 4 bunks have memory foam mattresses and all beds in the house have mattress and pillow protectors that get cleaned between every use along with every scrap of bedding. Suitcases get unpacked haphazardly and long pants and shoes get replaced with swimsuits and bare feet.

My twenty something year old sister gets the couch in the living room.

The fast movers in the crew (kids) round up the easiest pushover adult they can find and immediately b-line it to the pool. Barring the Grand Wailea, the pool is probably one of the coolest kid pools in all of Maui. From the bridge to the hot tub is shallow enough for 2-5 year olds to wade in. This makes things WAY more relaxing for the adult(s) supervising. Behind the pool is shuffleboard, and showers disguised as bamboo are incorporated into the landscaping.

After about a half an hour the adults get unpacked and make a game plan for gearing up the condo for the trip. Fortunately, there is a ton of shopping close to the condo. We throw soft racks on top of the rental car, load up some surfboards and then round up the kids. We usually don't bother drying them off from the pool and throw them in the car and head toward Kalama beach.

The wind swell makes perfect little waves for kids or learning how to surf here. A couple of adults now run to Safeway for supplies, while the rest of us kick it on the beach and take turns pushing the kids into waves. After about an hour or two when the shopping is done we all head back to the condo.

We now unpack groceries, people take showers, and we plan dinner. Even though the kitchen is freshly remodeled, we typically barbecue outside in one of the common areas. The trade winds and tropical landscaping make it hard not to. There is also ping pong and tennis right next to the gas grills that the kids mess around with while we cook.

Usually the men get stuck grilling with some of the kids, while the moms mix up Pina Coladas back at the condo. They are kicking it on the huge lanai while the little kids watch a quick video on the new flat 52' LED flat screen TV w/PlayStation 3.

During dinners we usually plan the following day. There are copies of Maui guidebooks in the condo to help you do the same and you'll quickly learn there is always something for everyone in Maui.

Our familie's focus is being active and the ocean, but even after living in Maui and countless follow on trips, we always find something new. Know that kiteboarding, windsurfing, surfing, stand up paddling, whale watching, snorkeling, sunbathing, shopping, restaurants, and bars are all within a couple of miles of the condo.

We can't wait to go back and if you stay at Unit 3N hope you feel the same.

I am a former airline pilot that now works with unmanned aircraft and my wife is an executive.

We have 2 amazing daughters, ages 9 and 5 that Maui has already made a big impact upon. Our last trip was especially memorable in that our 8 year old made some big strides in surfing and our 3 year old became confident enough with her mask and fins to look at fish and turtles at turtle town without assistance from Mom and Dad.

Location combined with the extra room that a 3 bedroom unit provides were the main factors. Koa Resort only has 52 units on 5+ acres. The pool and proximity to beach, restaurants, and shopping sealed the deal.

What makes this condo unique

This location is central to everything on Maui. We can cross the street to go kiteboarding or stand up paddle, walk to restaurants/coffee shops, or drive to either Lahaina, Kahului, or even the North Shore easily.

Nice apartment, nice location, well equipped for 8 Adults

We had great time and no issues during our stay. We enjoyed the apartment located in a nice and quiet residential resort, with a nice pool where the kids had great time when the beaches were too windy. The kitchen was plenty of tools, maybe some bigger pan and pot would be useful if you host 10 people.

Let me preface by starting with a review of the Condo.

The location is great. Not noisy. The pool was great and we never had trouble parking.

When we arrived the unit windows were all closed. This made for one very hot night. The fans in this home are a joke. Seriously. They are the absolutely cheapest fans you can find and create more airflow than cold air. The kids were crying in bed that night they were so

The upstairs bed was comfortable. This room has it's own bathroom which is not shown in pictures, but is dingy looking.

The queen bedroom downstairs is not a proper bed. It's an egg crate foam topper on a pillow like "mattress". It is a very hard and noisey.

The bathroom downstairs of great. Newly remodeled.

The kitchen was nice. The only frustration was that the induction stove top was not user friendly and came with no instructions. My mother in law has one at home and she couldn't stop the beeping that would sometimes ensue for hours.

The dining table and living room were comfortable.

The best fan in the house broke the second day there. I contacted the property manager, Cindy. She was off the island so asked that we go to Wal-Mart and pick one up. She recommend a $40 wind tunnel fan. She told us to leave the receipt and the owner would reimburse us. NEVER DID.

Here is where we ran into more trouble. There is a stack washer/dryer unit in the condo. We were using it with no problem until the day before we left. The wash cycle wouldn't stop running and the kids clothes were locked inside. There is a kitten plastic D loop that locks automatically when the cycle is running and there no way to stop it. In a panic my father and brother in law broke the plastic loop to get our clothes out. When I let the manager know she didn't respond. We didn't try to hide that it was broken. I received an email saying our $500 deposit had been kept. We called the owner, Gabe, a few days later to explain the situation and that we would be happy to take care of the cost to replace. (It needs a $10 piece and some screws). The function of the washer was not altered in any way. He was very kind and said he understood and would let us know what the repair bill was. We have owned rental units before so we understand!

That was a month ago almost. We've called, messaged, no answer.

We tried to be honest and do the right thing by paying for the piece we broke on an already broken machine. Gabe kept our $500 instead. With no further communication.

Good place and convenient location

We were generally very pleased with our rental. We found the location to be perfect and very easy to get around. There were seven of us and there were plenty of space for everyone. Would definitely recommend.

What fantastic accomodation for the price!

KOA resort was everything we dreamed of. The resort itself was expansive and quiet and well maintained. The pool was our favorite. Being there in February meant the weather was rainy and relatively cool and the lack of AC in this unit was definitely tolerable. The unit was clean and in excellent condition. Would definitely stay again.

Cozy and clean condo

This condo is in a quiet neighborhood that's conveniently located in Kihei, steps away from beach. The kitchen and three decent size bedrooms, one of which has four bunk beds, made our stay (eight of us) very comfortable. When we had trouble getting into the house upon arrival as we misunderstood the instructions, the owner was patient on the phone helping us get in. The house is well maintained. However, one main light bulb in one of the two bathrooms went out on the first night and the owner asked us to go to a store to buy one and replace it ourselves, which is the last thing any vacationer wants to do when they travel from afar to Maui, so we had to live with the situation for the rest of our stay. The extra towels are very helpful and are appreciated.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback. Moving forward we now have replacement light bulbs stashed in the lower cabinet in the downstairs bathroom, in the lower cabinet in the upstairs bathroom, and in the 2nd from the bottom drawer in the far left row in the kitchen island.
