The Lite House is a small, quality home with comfortable, high-end furnishings and appliances. It is located in a private and normally quiet section of a gated community. In the interest of full disclosure, as of February of 2018, construction of a residence has begun on the vacant lot next door. If you are out exploring during the day, perhaps this noise will not affect you as much, but we wish to be sure that you are aware of it. This home is the perfect place for a couple who wants their privacy, and also just a bit of luxury. It could also accommodate a small family (four maximum). The queen-size, 12" memory foam bed has high thread-count cotton sheets for cool, comfortable sleeping. In the living room, the inner-spring futon converts into a double bed.
The Lite House is located at the far end of the subdivision, with sparsely scattered neighbors. It is touched on two sides by a fifty-eight year-old lava flow, which is now Hawaii State land as is all land newly formed by lava on the Island. There is nothing between the Lite House and the ocean but expansive lava field and open sky. This combination allows for both unobstructed refreshing trade winds and exceptional privacy within this subdivision. It also showcases spectacular, panoramic sunrises, moonrises and star gazing. Prior to the 1960 lava flow, the Lite House property had waves sloshing against it on two sides. You might say that it is still an 'ocean-front' property, but now it's a quarter mile walk to reach the rugged shoreline (scroll down to see revealing satellite photos). The occasional dramatic crashing wave can still be seen and heard from inside the Lite House.
From the Lite House, you can also see the Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse in the distance. Its faint beacon adds night-time charm, while additional equipment there monitors the cleanest air in the northern hemisphere blowing in from off the ocean. These pleasant trade winds are almost always present, and come right through the house when you have the doors and windows open. Because of its unique location, enjoy being outside, any time, and with no mosquitoes! At night, the sound of occasional Coqui frogs is a distant and mild serenade.
Champagne Pond, the secluded, geothermally- heated cove exclusive to this subdivision, is a 4- minute walk from the cottage. Here you can snorkel with the sea turtles and fish, or simply float around on the calm, exceptionally clean and clear water. Serious lap swimmers have also found Champagne Pond to be quite suitable.
In the adjacent neighborhood are the Kapoho Tide Pools (aka the Wai'Opae Marine Preserve), known for world-class snorkeling. We provide basic snorkel gear and boogie boards for your use.
If you enjoy bicycling, we make two bikes available to explore this scenic area. The terrain is mostly level, and with very little traffic. Kapoho Beach is a very bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly community. The marine preserve is about a fifteen-minute bicycle ride from the house, or you may drive to the parking area and then walk the last quarter of a mile to it.
Free WiFi is provided, as well as free long distance telephone calls to Canada and the U.S.
Note: We did not design this nice little house, but we named it the 'Lite House' because it is best suited for normal-size folks. Consequently, we regret that it may not be comfortable for 'extra-plus-sized' guests.

About Richard or Diane Beers
I (Diane) am a kindergarten teacher having just retired. My husband, Richard, and I are looking forward to spending some quiet-time in Kapoho! We have family there, and look forward to when we can see each other any time we want, just by hopping on our bicycles. And I can't wait to take my air mattress down to Champagne Pond every day and float in the lovely, warm water with the turtles!
Richard or Diane Beers purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Richard or Diane Beers chose Kapoho
We love the constant, pleasant climate of Kapoho, with its famously clean air. Additionally, mosquitoes have had a unrequited lifelong love affair with Richard, so their relative absence at this particular home's location especially appealed to him! And we enjoy the fact that the location is so peaceful, and with such privacy.

Comfortable, clean, well-equpped and quiet. Property description is accurate. Just right!
A piece of paradise
We loved our stay in Kapaho. The house is adorable, very clean, and equipped with everything we needed. The neighborbood is wonderful for walking, biking, and enjoying ocean views. Even though we experienced rain most days it did not dampen our stay at this wonderful lite house!
The Owners were wonderful and very responsive.
The best VRBO ever!
We have stayed at several VRBO and this house is by far the best one yet! The owners have thought of EVERYTHING for their guests. The house is VERY well stocked--even shampoo/conditioner/body wash. The location is ideal. It is a bit of a drive to get there but that's a big part of it's charm as well!! The neighborhood where this house is located is quiet and peaceful. It did take us a bit to figure out how to get to Champagne Pond but we found it! The nearby tide pools are our favorite place to snorkel. It was a fabulous vacation. We hated to leave. We hope to come back soon!
Still great winter retreat
We finished our second one month stay in a well maintained, very modern home. We slept on the bed when it was new and it is still wonderfully comfortable. All the bells and whistles in the house worked as they did four years ago so thanks for that. The landscaping is evolving nicely and adds a lot to the feeling of the site. The Pond frequently had turtles which was exciting. Hope we can come back for more long stays.
Wonderful little home a short walk from Champagne Pond!
My husband and I spent 5 days here and loved it! The house seems pretty new - everything was so nice! It took a little bit to get acclimated to where the Champagne Pond was - but it is right in this community. The public walkways to the pond are not posted though. The Kapoho Tidepools are a short bike ride or walk or car ride away (1.5 miles?) We would snorkel in warm Champagne Pond in the morning - it was so nice and warm and so many fish to see! The Kapoho tide pools are spectacular - SO MANY FISH! There are bikes and snorkel gear for you to use. The kitchen is stocked so that you can cook your own meals. There is a fruit stand that opens on Friday at the end of the road - delicious fruit and great prices! The bed - COMFORTABLE - I want that mattress! I enjoyed listening to the frogs at night, but you can close the windows if you don't like hearing them. We used this as a base to explore the area too: Volcano National Park, Pahoa (the Thai Restaurant is so good!) and we drove down to the ghostly area that was once the town of Kalapana. Thank you Richard and Diane for sharing your delightful home with us!
wonderful cottage and location
I enjoyed my week at the Lite House! It's a great location for exploring the area. I especially enjoyed biking to the tide pools to snorkel. The cottage is exactly as pictured and promised. The Beers are very friendly and responsive, with attention to detail. I plan to stay there next time I visit Hawaii to escape the Alaskan winter!
The Lite House is in Kapoho's private gated community, 29 miles from the Hilo International Airport. It is a 4- minute walk to Champagne Pond for floating/swimming/snorkeling with vegetarian sea turtles. Kapoho Beach and Kapoho Bay are also worth exploring and are a 10 minute walk across the lava. Wai'Opae Marine Preserve (aka Kapoho Tide Pools), with fabulous snorkeling, is a short bike ride or drive (2 bikes included for your use). The entrance to Volcanoes National Park is 40 miles, the lava flow viewing area is approximately 20 miles from the cottage, and Lava Tree Park is 7 miles. The historic town of Pahoa is 10 miles away, and Hilo (the Big Island's largest town) is 25 miles. Once outside the gated subdivision, take scenic coastal drives both north and south.
