(locals -- of a certain age that remember TV's "The Andy Griffith Show" -- proudly call Stuart the "Mayberry of Florida")

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ONE OF ONLY 60 BEACH HOUSES LIKE IT IN THE U.S.A:

This precious ocean jewel is among the fewer than 60 beach houses in the entire United States that sit DIRECTLY ON THE OCEAN and also sit DIRECTLY ON A MILE-PLUS WIDE RIVER with private dock for fishing and water toys, and where the river empties into the ocean just a short mile away. Start every day with breakfast views of a glorious sunrise gently emerging above the peaceful ocean. Usher in each evening with mesmerizing vistas of golden-hued sunsets rippling across the majestic Indian River.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A NATURE-LOVER'S PARADISE:

This Ocean-to-River Beach House sits at the southern terminus of the Indian River, the most biologically diverse estuary in all North America (according to marinelife samples taken by the Florida Oceanographic Society marine biologists in May 2015 ... samples taken just yards away from this home's dock!) From the dock, tiki hut, or oceanfront deck, watch manatees, dolphins, and sea turtles frolic year-round. Birdlife abounds with ibis, egrets, herons, warblers, pelicans and more. And the fishing? Well, let's just say that while a Publix supermarket is conveniently located just a few blocks down the street, you'll never need to buy fish from the market during your stay!

-----------------------------------------------------------

A WATER WONDERLAND:

In addition to the private beach, enjoy your own private dock adjacent to tiki-hut entertainment deck, complete with complimentary fishing equipment (fully-stocked bait & tackle), snorkeling gear, and even complimentary water toys like paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks , rafts and more. If you're not bringing your own, boats & jetskis are available for rent just a few hundred yards away from your dock.

---------------------------------------------------

A TREASURE CHEST OF DELIGHT:

And there's even more fun to be had: The home sits smack dab in the middle of the "Treasure Coast". To this very day, gold doubloons, pieces of eight and other spanish treasure still occasionally wash up along Hutchinson Island, especially following big storms. Just two hundred yards away to the north of the beach house, the House of Refuge Museum showcases relics from prior shipwrecks, one of which -- the Georges Valentine wreck -- is a fun snorkeling experience and is close enough to swim to from the beach house! (Complimentary beach-comber metal-detectors are provided, of course)

-----------------------------------------------------------

HELP PRESERVE OUR PRISTINE AREA

The waters in and around the beach house are among the most biologically rich and environmentally sensitive in the entire United States. The owners of the home have been financial supporters of local environmental groups for many, many years, with financial contributions into the 7 figures. Upon your arrival, you will notice and appreciate the extent to which exhaustive measures have been taken to preserve the pristine areas surrounding the home in a no-impact, leave-no-trace manner. ("Leave no trace": After you have enjoyed your stay, the beaches and waters surrounding the home should appear exactly as they appeared when you arrived. -- No footprints, no litter, no nothing -- it's as if you never visited)

Help preserve the natural beauty and sensitive ecosystem surrounding the home:

* Do not touch or approach dolphins, sea turtles and manatees (who swim near the end of the dock). These are protected species. The Florida Fish & Wildlife officers in their boats have powerful binoculars, and they WILL arrest you.

* Be responsible with your fishing tackle. Avoid leaving behind loose line, hooks and other tackle after a successful day fishing. (Pelicans, egrets, heron and other birdlife get tangled in fish line or snagged by hooks ... or by fish they've caught who still have a hook in their mouth.

* Do not litter (this includes urinating into the water, emptying alcohol or soda into the water, and so on)

------------------------------------------------

CAN I COMBINE A FLORIDA BEACH HOUSE VACATION WITH A DISNEY WORLD ORLANDO VACATION?

Absolutely. For those interested in combining a beach house experience with Mickey Mouse, Disney World, Universal, and all the other Orlando Resorts: It's a pleasant two-hour drive from the Ocean-to-River Beach House to Disney and Orlando, driving along the Florida Turnpike. (Avoid the Interstate). Many vacationing families in our beach-house community will spend a week bringing three (or four!) generations together in a Florida beach house, then "spin off" the younger side of the family to Disney World for a few days. We've seen it first0hand: And it may just be the best way EVER to combine a Florida Beach House vacation with an Orlando / Disney World / Universal / Mickey Mouse vacation!

------------------------------------------------

ABOUT EVENTS:

Although the house is available for small-scale and modest events, it is NOT a party house. The area surrounding the home is environmentally fragile, and cannot safely withstand more people than the posted maximum occupancy of the home itself. Further, owing to turtle-nesting season and other environmental concerns, there are extensive restrictions and regulations that restrict or forbid lighting and noise on the beach area. The house also lacks a single large room suitable for hosting a large party. If you want to have a big party near the beach, consider these nearby alternatives: The Marriott Hutchinson Island Resort has ample facilities for large events, and The House of Refuge has a smaller room that it rents out to small-to-medium-size events.

------------------------------------------------

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY and MOTION-IMPAIRED ACCESSIBILITY:

Like most other ocean-to-river beach homes in this area, only the ground floor is available to wheelchairs and motion-impaired individuals. Reason: Florida building codes in this oceanfront area require that the living and sleeping areas of these homes be well over 12 to 18 feet above sea level, to withstand the surging waves and debris that hurricanes present. For our home, this means that the ground-floor level contains only an enclosed two-vehicle parking garage. To enter the primary living areas on Level 2, one must climb stairs. This second level contains kitchen, dining, living room/family room, bathroom, plus one partionable bedroom, with its own private TV and private oceanfront views. To reach bedrooms on level 3, another set of stairs must be climbed. Finally, to reach the highest level 4 -- an indoor/outdoor under-roof observation-deck platform with 360-degree views -- one must climb an almost 90-degree vertical ladder. In other words, the higher you go, the more challenging the climb. (Check our other listings for elevator-equipped homes)

About Al Roberts, Property Manager @ Beach Houses in Paradise

I'm a semi-retired Dad in his early 50s with a finance & IT background. I spent the most productive 25 years of my life confined indoors staring at a computer screen while living in beautiful Miami. (As I'm originally from cold & windy Chicago, palm trees, sand, dolphins & water this beautiful seemed so exotic to me, these beach houses were mythical, a dream almost, not real...)

25 years ago, as a young man starting a family, we discovered the area during a weekend getaway from Miami. Struck by the natural beauty -- our beach homes front the most biologically-diverse river/estuary in North America -- and its convenience to both Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/WestPalm area & Orlando, we just fell in love with this secret, undiscovered place.

Over the years, we returned. Again & again. And so ... this tiny environmentally-sensitive barrier-island of ocean-to-river beach houses became the setting for a "highlight reel" of my family's life: Wedding proposals, family reunions, the last pictures I have of my father smiling ... so many things so important to me in this world, and in this life

As the years passed, we returned. A lot. We got to know the locals, including a wealthy family that helps protect the local environment in the area through supporting local groups & preserving these incredible ocean-to-river homes, very unique in America (only 60 houses like this anywhere).

Fast-forward to 2015: Two things happen: We're empty nesters, now that the kid is off to college. Then, I get an offer from the local family to use my IT background to list their home online as a vacation rental for the environmentally conscientious and manage the (small) operation.

Today, more than a dozen beach houses later, we're called "Beach Houses in Paradise". Providing a few dozen jobs, paying (lots of) taxes, creating smiles, making memories & having a bunch of fun. (Until the the owners/investors realize that in my old age, BACKSPACE is the most active key on my keyboard, that is)

Why Al Roberts, Property Manager @ Beach Houses in Paradise chose Florida Central East

The property is located a few minutes east of city of Stuart, in Martin County, Florida.

What is Stuart like? Are you old enough to remember TV's "Andy Griffith" show? Locals call Stuart the"Mayberry of Florida".

But you need not rely on local pride: Check out these awards recently garnered by Stuart and Martin County FL:

Coastal Living Magazine: #1 Happiest Seaside Town in America

House Beautiful Magazine: #1 Most Beautiful Small Town in Florida

Smithsonian Magazine: #3 Best Small Towns to Visit in the U.S.

And there's more: Our ocean-to-river beach houses are like almost none other in the entire United States. There are only 60 or so houses in America like BHIP houses: (directly on the ocean, directly on a wide river, private deeded access to the river, and ocean access through through an inlet just minutes away, and warm weather year-round). Plus: Our homes are located within a one-hour drive of the Miami/Ft.Lauderdale/West Palm Beach metropolitan area and within a 2-hour drive of Orlando, Disney World and other popular attractions and destinations. And the local private airport -- Witham Field in Martin County -- is just a few miles away, with long runways that accommodate both private prop aircraft and jet aircraft. So you can drive in, fly in, or even boat in!

Gorgeous location. The perfect seaside town. Pristine waters and wildlife. ON the Atlantic beach. Close to the best of Florida (From Orlando and the theme parks, to Miami & Palm Beach, in less than two hours). And convenient to international airports. (Palm Beach International less than one hour away).

Great location and beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5

My parents and sister's family from Ohio and my family from Fort Lauderdale rent a beach house every year in June. This was our first time renting "As Good As It Gets", but we'll never rent from another company. We had such an amazing time! The house is beautiful and so well stocked. The owners really go above and beyond with the amenities. We used the kayaks and paddleboards every day. The ocean was a little rough but still fun in the morning. There was 11 of us this trip and we all had a lot of fun. We'll definitely rent again! Thank you for a memorable family vacation.

Amazing house, location and customer service!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at "As good as it gets!"

The location was perfect, close to everything but the amenities were enough that we didn't have to leave. From the beach to the river to the water toys to the fire pit to the complimentary gift basket and coffee! We loved it all. Thank you for making my husband's 40th birthday one to remember.

Lastly, Al was great to work with from the start to finish. We will definitely be back!

The property was very comfortable. The manager, Al Roberts, thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable.I have rented many vacation condos and homes. This is by far the most equipped. I would recommend this property to anyone. A great beach property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words, and for your observation that As Good as it Gets isn't that spacious. That's helpful for prospective vacationers and renters to know, as in terms of indoor square footage, AGAIG is, indeed, the smallest property in our inventory. It is also the best-located and most highly-reviewed beach house in our inventory, and also provides the best 360-degree all-water sunrise-to-sunset views . . . (ugh, trade-offs!) For those considering bringing a large group to this home, I recommend watching the Virtual-Tour Preview Video that appears in our listing that walks you through every single room inside the house, as well as drone footage that captures the expansiveness of all the outdoor recreation areas. (Note: the video is easier to find if you are using a desktop or laptop computer, rather than a mobile device). The video, plus the architectural floor plan that is presented among our photos, are great tools for planning nighttime sleeping accommodations ... as this is when things can feel cramped for a large group. AMAZING HOME!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and my best friend's family were fortunate enough to secure "As Good as it Gets" for our families Spring Break trip. The pictures of this home in no way do it justice! We were amazed with the home the minute we pulled in the driveway! The check-in instructions were so easy to follow and communication with Al was easy as well. The home has everything you'd need, they really thought of everything! The only thing we needed to provide was food and drinks for the week, EVERYTHING else was there for us to use! The views from this home are absolutely amazing and breathtaking. We had 4 adults and 6 children and everyone fit comfortably in this home. Al was great to work with and very accommodating. We are already making plans to visit again! Thanks so much for a wonderful experience and vacation! :)

Beach Houses in Paradise is not privy to your sensitive personal and financial information. BHIP books hundreds of stays every year on the HomeAway/VRBO platform. 98 out of every 100 HomeAway/VRBO reviews are five-star reviews. (the other 2 are 4-star reviews)

SECURE YOUR DATES -- A small deposit is necessary to secure your reservation (which prevents others from booking your dates). The balance is not due until shortly before your travel dates (the HomeAway/VRBO platform will send you an invoice for final payment typically 30 to 45 days before check-in)

CLEANING & RESTOCKING FEE: Outsourced cleaning service collects a standard fee that varies by the number of floors in the home (2FL, 3FL or 4FL), number of bedrooms, and total square footage. Note: Fee may vary in certain circumstances, such as special events, and/or long-term bookings of a month or more.

HOLIDAYS, WEEKENDS & PEAK TRAVEL SEASONS: These dates -- which typically carry premium rates -- sell fast, so book early!
