Nice Place - Great Value & Location

  • 5 of 5

Boston was booked due to the Boston Marathon. We decided to try Home Away for the first time instead of a hotel room. We had the first floor of a 3 family home. It easily fit 2 adults and 2 children. We did bring our own air mattress for one of the kids but that's only because our son is all over the place when he sleeps which disturbs his sister. Otherwise they would have fit fine on the sleeper couch. The apartment was finished with just what you need. The location is in a quiet neighborhood with a view of the harbor. It is conveniently located near the T, only 1 stop away to the Aquarium/Faneiul Hall. John and Melissa were very easy to reach, easy to work with and helped make our stay a wonderful experience. We definitely will stay here again on our next trip to Boston.

Thanks John and Melissa for making our experience so pleasant!

Great little spot in East Boston

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here in celebration of our anniversary. It was the first time we'd been away alone in a long time. And we weren't disappointed. This spot on Marginal Street is everything we expected; just as advertised. The owners are very pleasant and friendly and willing to lend a helping hand. John said he was available by text if we needed any advice while touring Boston! The neighborhood is very quiet and safe. And, it was so great to be so close to the T. When we first arrived we took a walk to the park down the road. This park was such a little gem with beautiful harbor views. Great for a picnic. The apartment itself was clean and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable. We only wished we had more time to sample all the great food in East Boston and beyond. As it was, our first night we went to Italian Express in East Boston right around the block. This place had a homey welcoming atmosphere. The second night we were in Quincy Market and sat outside to eat take out after a long walking tour of Boston. A walk to North Boston during the day was lovely. We also visited the North Church and a little printing press nearby where the proprietor re-enacts printing as it was done when the original Declaration of Independence was created . We went into Paul Revere’s house. So much history and we barely scratched the surface... Oh and don't forget the little bakery next store to Italian Express. We stopped her to stock up on pastry for the ride home. Thanks John and Melissa for being as advertised!

Spacious flat with great outdoor space.

  • 4 of 5

The flat is spacious and well appointed. Great kitchen but alas nowhere near by to buy groceries to make a decent meal. Markets in downtown Boston but with temparatures of 85 degrees each day didn't want to be lugging food around. Lovely dinning table shame no chairs around it. Bedding clean bed comfy and plenty of towels. Only reason not giving 5 stars is that the fridge hadn't been emptied the bathroom bin was overflowing and there was crumpled tissues under the bed. Hope previous visiter got his clothing back , we left it bagged up with Melissa. Fab decking area with great view and lovely garden with squirrels running around. We spent most of our time outside as it was very hot , thank goodness for the air conditioning in the bedroom. Nice friendly area to stay. The staff in the Western Union where you buy your Charlie ticket were very helpful and the clipper off licence is a Godsend. Local cafes were quite good but if like me you are a first time visiter to the USA it's not cheap to eat out and the wine is very expensive, you have to add on 7% local tax and 20% tip to your bill.

Owner's Response: John and I are very sorry that the apartment was not cleaned properly and will double check our work. You should have let us know and we would have removed the items and re-cleaned. We have 3 convenience stores 2 blocks from the house and a large grocery store 7 blocks away. Also delivers all foods for a $6.00 fee. In less than a 10 minute walk we have 12 restaurants with all descriptions of food from Australian meat pies to amazing Italian. The apartment has a breakfast bar with 2 stools and outside we have a table and 6 chairs for garden dining. Thank you for staying with us and for the helpful feed back Melissa & John

A great place to stay - would stay here again

  • 5 of 5

The location of the apartment -- with parking -- was perfect. A hop, skip and jump to the T-station, then one stop and you're at the Boston Aquarium waterfront - a perfect place to sign up for a whale watch cruise or eat at Legal Seafood. We got comfortable with the subway system fairly quickly and used it for the majority of our travels through Boston. (The farthest we ventured was Prudential Center which required changing train lines twice. The Charlie card (transit pass) is the way to go.) The view from the property is as terrific as it appears in the photos. I especially enjoyed seeing it as the sun was coming up. Our 2nd floor suite was great - clean and neat, with everything two of us needed for our 4-day stay. There was actually sleeping space for 3, but we only needed the queen-size bed, with duvet, in the larger bedroom. The kitchen was well-equipped, including paper towels and dish soap and some assorted spices, tea bags and other non-perishables. No dishwasher, but we really only used the kitchen to make coffee and toast. (If you stay here, make sure you open every drawer in the kitchen - including those under the cooktop - before deciding you need to go out and buy something.) The bathroom was small, but sufficient, with a wall-mounted hair dryer, electric outlet and plenty of extra towels and space for toiletries, curling iron, etc. Due to the weather, and the fact that we left the apartment early and returned after dark, we didn't get to use the deck, backyard or grill, but they're all available and looked nice. The living room included a large, comfy sofa and Xfinity cable TV service with surround sound. We didn't ever really master that. We thoroughly enjoyed our Duck Tour (from the Prudential Center - which also included a pass to the Top of the Hub), whale watch cruise (through the Aquarium with a naturalist on board) and the hop-on, hop-off Old Town Trolley Tour which included a tour of the harbor and a stop at the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides). Had great seafood (Legal Seafood and Union Oyster House especially) and Harpoon IPA. I miss it already! Hope to get back there some day.

Harbor View is great!

  • 5 of 5

This quirky little apartment was a great find for us as we enjoyed Boston. Convenient to the T stop to get anywhere you want quickly. Open space to play/ picnic is across the street with a wonderful view of Boston's skyline. There is a little Italian restaurant a couple of block away (Express Pizza, I think) that has wonderful food and friendly staff. Owners were very available to answer any questions you have.

A wonderful find on Boston Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 10 days in July. We were so thrilled with the property. We stayed in the upstairs apartment for 8 days, and needed to extend our stay, so they accommodated us in the downstairs apartment for an additional 2 days. Both apartments were very clean, well furnished and stocked, with modern updates and finishes. The home is a unique older home with lots of character but with all the updates you need to be comfortable. We stayed with our children and felt very at home. The home has beautiful views of downtown Boston across the harbor, and is breathtaking, especially at night from the master bedroom windows. The yard was a pleasant surprise and we enjoyed relaxing outside and grilling as well. Even better was the beautiful Piers Park right across the street. It has great expanses of grass to relax and play, a pier out onto the harbor, sailing rentals, and best of all, a playground and fountain for my kids to play in! The location is perfect, and with the close proximity to the subway, is very convenient to anywhere you need to go. We spent much of our time in downtown Boston, and also commuted to the hospital in Brookline, and had no trouble coming and going. The neighborhood is friendly and safe, as well, and we gave no thought to being out and about even at night. Our hosts, John and Mellissa were friendly and helpful at all times, ensuring us the most pleasant stay possible and were gracious in extending our accommodations at the last minute, when our child's medical care required us to stay longer in Boston. We had a great stay and sincerely hope to have opportunity to come back again, and would give this property our highest recommendation.
