About Aly

I was in the first graduating class of George Brown College in Toronto and have a diploma in 'Intervenor for Deafblind'. I was third top in my class for grade II braille and studied ASL (American Sign Language). I've also provided respite care to adolescent autistic to physically challenged teens.

I've always been interested in doing a bed and breakfast business and a vacation rental for a number of years now.

My mother is Canadian, and I was born in Toronto. My father's side is American but he lived in Canada for ten years before while married to my mother. Upon divorce, he moved back to New York, so when he passed away, I received a US inheritance. Since the Canadian dollar was higher at that time, I took this opportunity to do something in his honor and invested back in the US.

I'm looking forward to meeting new people and to exercise my great hospitality skills.

Aly purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Aly chose Northwest & Islands

After seeing many properties, I was about to call it quits as I didn't want to waste my realtor's time and gas money but he insisted I see a couple more. I'm so glad I listened to him as I feel in love with this cottage as soon as I saw it.

The sun was shining through the living room top windows yet with the blinds closed, it was still sunny and private. The backyard overlooks an orchard so I felt the privacy in the back as well. I love the ramps and it works for those who have difficulty with stairs and those who just want to wheel up their bikes or strollers. It's close to the beach and the street is nice and quiet.

It was the perfect cottage to buy and share with all ages, from children to seniors.

What makes this cottage unique

Relax on the huge deck, and have most of your meals outdoors. Even if it's raining, you will be covered with an awning that still gets you outdoors. I have a thermal coffee carafe you can keep on the deck and keeps the coffee hot.

Enjoy 2 FIRE PITS, one in the front or a more private one in the back which overlooks an orchard.

The Master Bedroom comes complete with an on-suite 4 piece bathroom, TV, DVD, and VCR.

There are two bedrooms with queen size bed and one bedroom geared for children with bunk beds (double and single) all with quality mattress because a good nights sleep is important. The couch is also firm which helps me with back support, as well, there are 6 ergonomic lounge chairs located on the front deck.

Very Pleasant Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family group (4 adults, 2 small children) thoroughly enjoyed a 4-night stay at this cottage. It was well-equipped and very comfortable for our use. We liked the quiet location and convenient access to nearby tourist services. The easy access to the Vancouver area was also a plus for us as we wanted to do some touring in that area.

The large deck and firepit were especially nice for evening conversations and having a bbq. Aly was very helpful in every way to ensure the time we spent here was very satisfying.

Weekend retreat to Birch Bay

  • 5 of 5

We had our second stay at the Anderson Seashell Cottage. Location and accommodations are excellent for 2 to 3 families to share. Coming back a second time was so easy, we knew exactly what to expect, we were able to hang out at the beach all day and check in at 4pm , have dinner and sit down to relax on the enormous front deck.

We are working out our plans for 2017! Thank you for a great stay.

4th of July weekend fun!

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 families for a total of 7 people. The 3 kids fit in the kids room just fine. Each adult couple had their own room. Plenty of space. There's 2 fire pits; one in the back and one on the huge deck out front. We had a fire in the front one all 3 nights. So relaxing to sit outside, have a couple drinks and chat it up with great company while the kids played! The house is not far from the beach...maybe a quarter of a mile. The only downfall is there's no sidewalks, but it's managible. The closest part of the beach is private property, so you'll have to walk a little further! If you drive it doesn't take long to find parking and open beach area. I really enjoyed having all kitchen utensils, pans, plates, silverware, microwave, toaster and coffee pot available The fireworks on the beach were amazing!! I'm not a huge fan of fireworks so that's saying a lot!!! Would definily stay here again!!!!

Owner's Response: It's always a pleasure having great guests and hearing that they had fun. The Bay's fireworks are amazing during the 4th of July. Yes, there are no sidewalks around the surrounding streets. At the bottom of the hill where the beach is, on the right hand side is private property and onward. However, the left hand side and onward, is all public so I should have mentioned that. Thank you for bringing this to my attention so I could let future guests know. Thank you again for being such great guests.

Great Family vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

Aly, the home owner, was very accommodating with our needs at her vacation rental. We wanted to rent a place so that we could bring our dogs and have room to relax. Since we are all busy with work at Christmas, we get together with our kids after the first of the year to celebrate. She was so kind to leave a few Christmas decorations up to recapture the Christmas spirit during our celebration away from home. Very sweet and above and beyond. The cottage was clean and well kept. Will be sure to stay there again in the future.

A+ accommodations and location

  • 5 of 5

We come to Birch Bay every year for opening crabbing weekend, the Sea shell house was a perfect find. We had 2 couples, grandma and our college daughter +1 and there was a comfortable bed for everyone. The living area inside was terrific, the kitchen well stocked and the outside deck space was great. The location was good, short drive to the State park and a nice walk to the beach.
