Situated on almost 12 acres, this diverse habitat of old meadows, apple trees, blueberry ground, cedar and spruce groves drew me right in. I've had a small garden business for years and hope to bring some of this land back to production while retaining its wild character. Meantime the location is superb. You'll feel nestled with Robbins Hill behind you on this private site, yet always, Western Mtn. is before you and I'm reminded of a little Switzerland.
Within walking distance is Seal cove Landing, a favorite place for kayaking, picnicking, catching mackerel, or watching sunsets. Lobsterboats, and pleasure boats use the harbor.
Seal Cove Pond public boat launch is at the bottom of the hill. Bring or rent a canoe and paddle across to Western Mtn.Park Trails. Or on quiet days wander right here where ospreys and eagles commonly feed by the outlet stream of the Pond or relax on a deck or hammock and watch the birds. Endless walking and running trails are either right out the door or a quick drive down the road, along with pristine fresh water swimming at Long Pond.
The night sky is excellent here and can be seen moving throughout the night from the Great Room's high windows and skylight. Deer visit the apple trees and coyotes and owls can sometimes be heard. The previous owners very carefully created an oasis for wildlife, including a lovely pond where dragonflies breed.
When you're ready for adventure, culture, dining out or shopping, the surrounding area offers a multitude of opportunities, Bar Harbor is 30 min. away with all of its attractions. Much less congested are Southwest Harbor (10-15 min.) and Bass Harbor (10 min.) with their array of takeout to fine restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, library activities and talks, massage, yoga and art studios. There are cruises, fishing trips, music and live theatre venues, golf..All your needs for groceries, bakery, pharmacy, banks, medical center, recreation center, florist are there.
This house is a great place for friends and family to gather with its spacious chalet style great room designed for wildlife watching and family activities. The furniture is comfortable and the room uncrowded and airy. There is a dining area open to the living room with picture windows facing the bird feeding area and the mtn. The table will seat 6 comfortably.
The cheery front room has a picture window for mtn watching, a large activity or dining table, card table, and sofa bed. A large map of the Island makes it a great place to plan outings.
Some of the central kitchen is open to common areas and outdoor vistas as well. It has a gas stove and oven, large fridge, microwave, and all that one may need to cook at home.
A half bath is downstairs and a spacious light and airy bath upstairs, with tub, shower, toilet, and vanity sink, newly remodeled.
The larger master bedroom has a new queen size bed, lights for reading and mtn. view. A second front bedroom is smaller, also with a queen, lights and a mtn. view. The third has 2 twin beds and a window to the great room and it's skylight. All bedrooms have plenty of closet space and bureaus.
There is a fourth optional sleeping area for those seeking more privacy or for larger families. A finished area of the walkout basement is light and cheerful with its 3 windows, queen and twin bed. It is accessed either thru the basement/laundry room or own door to the outside.
The cellar has a nice washer and dryer and there are clotheslines out back. An open porch faces the mtn. and a larger deck with gas grill and outdoor furniture faces south.
There is a large lawn area that surrounds the pond and future garden spot. A quiet trail passes thru cedar and spruce forest at the back of the property, eventually reaching the Seal Cove picnic area.
This property alone could be a family, friend, or artist's retreat. Or, it could be the place to retreat to after enjoying Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island.
