Note: Carpe Diem is rented only to one party at a time; you will not be sharing the premises with strangers or unknown travelers.

At 5+ bedrooms and 5 baths, 100 linear feet on both the ocean and river, giant oceanfront and riverfront entertainment decks, and more than 3000 square feet of bedrooms, bathrooms and living area, Carpe Diem is the largest and most luxuriously appointed ocean-to-river beach house we currently offer. "Carpe Diem" is situated on a private beach in a quiet residential area -- there are no condos, high rises or large public beaches for miles. ( No crowds, just a beach all to yourself and your group). The Atlantic Ocean is right off your back porch. And 15 paces from your front door is your own 300-foot-long deep-water private dock on the Indian River, offering some of the best fishing in the world, and stocked with all your favorite water toys. (complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear, bicycles, boogie boards, inflatable rafts, fishing poles & tackle, metal detectors, and more)

Own a boat? Bring it! Moor it at your own private dock, and there's even room to park your trailer. (Boat ramp is just 1 miles away). RV? There's room for that too!

Not only is the home situated in the most biodiverse marine environment in America (source: Florida Oceanographic Institute), but it's also located in Stuart FL, Winner of the "America's Happiest Seaside Town" award given annually by Coastal Living Magazine! (locals -- of a certain age that remember TV's "The Andy Griffith Show" -- proudly call Stuart the "Mayberry of Florida")

Carpe Diem is among the fewer than 60 beach houses in the entire U.S. that sit DIRECTLY ON THE OCEAN and also sit DIRECTLY ON A MILE-PLUS WIDE RIVER with private dock for fishing and water toys, and where the river empties into the ocean just a short mile away. Start every day with breakfast views of a glorious sunrise gently emerging above the peaceful ocean. Usher in each evening with mesmerizing vistas of golden-hued sunsets rippling across the majestic Indian River.

This Ocean-to-River Beach House sits at the southern terminus of the Indian River, the most biologically diverse estuary in all North America (according to marinelife samples taken by the Florida Oceanographic Society marine biologists in May 2015 ... samples taken just yards away from this home's dock!) From the dock, tiki hut, or oceanfront deck, watch manatees, dolphins, and sea turtles frolic year-round. Birdlife abounds with ibis, egrets, herons, warblers, pelicans and more. And the fishing? Well, let's just say that while a Publix supermarket is conveniently located just a few blocks down the street, you'll never need to buy fish from the market during your stay!

In addition to the private beach, enjoy your own private dock adjacent to tiki-hut entertainment deck, complete with complimentary fishing equipment (fully-stocked bait & tackle), snorkeling gear, and even complimentary water toys like paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks , rafts and more. If you're not bringing your own boat or jetskis, rent just a few hundred yards away from your private dock!

And there's even more fun to be had: the Ocean-to-River Beach House sits smack dab in the middle of the "Treasure Coast". To this very day, gold doubloons, pieces of eight and other spanish treasure still occasionally wash up along Hutchinson Island, especially following big storms. In fact, just two hundred yards away to the north of the beach house, the House of Refuge Museum showcases relics from prior shipwrecks, one of which -- the Georges Valentine wreck -- is a fun snorkeling experience and is close enough to swim to from the beach house! (Complimentary beach-comber metal-detectors are provided, of course!)

The waters in and around the beach house are among the most biologically rich and environmentally sensitive in the entire United States. The owners of the home have been financial supporters of local environmental groups for many, many years, with financial contributions into the 7 figures. Upon your arrival, you will notice and appreciate the extent to which exhaustive measures have been taken to preserve the pristine areas surrounding the home in a no-impact, leave-no-trace manner. ("Leave no trace": After you have enjoyed your stay, the beaches and waters surrounding the home should appear exactly as they appeared when you arrived. -- No footprints, no litter, no nothing -- it's as if you never visited)

Help preserve the natural beauty and sensitive ecosystem surrounding the home:

* Do not touch or approach dolphins, sea turtles and manatees (who swim near the end of the dock). These are protected species. The Florida Fish & Wildlife officers in their boats have powerful binoculars; they WILL arrest you.

* Be responsible with your fishing tackle. Avoid leaving behind loose line, hooks and other tackle after a successful day fishing. (Pelicans, egrets, heron and other birdlife get tangled in fish line or snagged by hooks ... or by fish they've caught who still have a hook in their mouth.

* Do not litter (this includes urinating into the water, emptying alcohol or soda into the water, and so on)

Absolutely. For those interested in combining a beach house experience with Mickey Mouse, Disney World, Universal, and all the other Orlando Resorts: It's a pleasant two-hour drive from the Ocean-to-River Beach House to Disney and Orlando, driving along the Florida Turnpike. (Avoid the Interstate). Many vacationing families in our beach-house community will spend a week bringing three (or four!) generations together in a florida beach house, then "spin off" the younger side of the family to Disney World for a few days. We've seen it first hand: And it may just be the best way EVER to combine a Florida Beach House vacation with an Orlando / Disney World / Universal / Mickey Mouse vacation!

Like most other ocean-to-river beach homes in this area, most space at the home is inaccessible to wheelchairs and motion-impaired individuals. Reason: Florida building codes in this oceanfront area require that the living and sleeping areas of these homes be well over 12 to 18 feet above sea level, to withstand the surging waves and debris that hurricanes present. These nearby BHIP properties have private, in-home elevators and are generally more accessible: Oceania (ID# 4568299), Bella Vista (4225514) and La Dolce Vita (4162649)

About Al Roberts, Property Manager @ Beach Houses in Paradise

I'm a semi-retired Dad in his early 50s with a finance & IT background. I spent the most productive 25 years of my life confined indoors staring at a computer screen while living in beautiful Miami. (As I'm originally from cold & windy Chicago, palm trees, sand, dolphins & water this beautiful seemed so exotic to me, these beach houses were mythical, a dream almost, not real...)

25 years ago, as a young man starting a family, we discovered the area during a weekend getaway from Miami. Struck by the natural beauty -- our beach homes front the most biologically-diverse river/estuary in North America -- and its convenience to both Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/WestPalm area & Orlando, we just fell in love with this secret, undiscovered place.

Over the years, we returned. Again & again. And so ... this tiny environmentally-sensitive barrier-island of ocean-to-river beach houses became the setting for a "highlight reel" of my family's life: Wedding proposals, family reunions, the last pictures I have of my father smiling ... so many things so important to me in this world, and in this life

As the years passed, we returned. A lot. We got to know the locals, including a wealthy family that helps protect the local environment in the area through supporting local groups & preserving these incredible ocean-to-river homes, very unique in America (only 60 houses like this anywhere).

Fast-forward to 2015: Two things happen: We're empty nesters, now that the kid is off to college. Then, I get an offer from the local family to use my IT background to list their home online as a vacation rental for the environmentally conscientious and manage the (small) operation.

Today, more than a dozen beach houses later, we're called "Beach Houses in Paradise". Providing a few dozen jobs, paying (lots of) taxes, creating smiles, making memories & having a bunch of fun. (Until the the owners/investors realize that I hit the BACKSPACE key a whole lot more in my old age, that is . . .)

Why Al Roberts, Property Manager @ Beach Houses in Paradise chose Stuart

The property is located a few minutes east of city of Stuart, in Martin County, Florida.

What is Stuart like? Are you old enough to remember TV's "Andy Griffith" show? Locals call Stuart the"Mayberry of Florida".

But you need not rely on local pride: Check out these awards recently garnered by Stuart and Martin County FL:

Coastal Living Magazine: #1 Happiest Seaside Town in America

House Beautiful Magazine: #1 Most Beautiful Small Town in Florida

Smithsonian Magazine: #3 Best Small Towns to Visit in the U.S.

America In Bloom (Audubon group ): #1 Most Beautiful City in America

FindTheHome d0t c0m: #1 Best Place to Retire in the U.S.

OnlyInYourState d0t c0m: 1 of 8 "Most Beautiful Small Towns in Florida"

HutffingtonPost d0t c0m: "Top Florida Beach Towns"

And there's more: Our ocean-to-river beach houses are like almost none other in the entire United States. There are only 60 or so houses in America like BHIP houses: (directly on the ocean, directly on a wide river, private deeded access to the river, and ocean access through through an inlet just minutes away, and warm weather year-round). Plus: Our homes are located within a one-hour drive of the Miami/Ft.Lauderdale/West Palm Beach metropolitan area and within a 2-hour drive of Orlando, Disney World and other popular attractions and destinations. And the local private airport -- Witham Field in Martin County -- is just a few miles away, with long runways that accommodate both private prop aircraft and jet aircraft. So you can drive in, fly in, or even boat in!

Gorgeous location. The perfect seaside town. Pristine waters and wildlife. ON the Atlantic beach. Close to the best of Florida (From Orlando and the theme parks, to Miami & Palm Beach, in less than two hours). And convenient to international airports. (Palm Beach International less than one hour away).

What makes this house unique

Struggling to set the timer on the Microwave? Not sure how to get the Hot Tub warmed up? Myself and other BHIP staff live in the neighborhood, and are always just a few minutes away should you need anything or experience any trouble.

This property was one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of vacationing at. The homeowner didn't miss a trick! The home was fully stocked with wonderful amenities all we really needed to bring was ourselves and food. There was plenty of room for everyone in our party and even my dog. I can't really find the words to describe how amazing this home was and the surroundings from the ocean to the beach, the hot tub, the deck, the view, the kayaks, paddle boards, fire pits, a dock for our boat the list goes on and on. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay in this gorgeous home don't let it pass you by!!!!

Amazing location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed there for 3 nights for a family reunion. Everything was fantastic. The water was so close on both sides that it felt like we were on a cruise.

The house was fully loaded with every possible amenity. Plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable.

Management was great, very much available if we needed to get in touch.

Two Thumbs up!

Almost couldn't have been better

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful time we had for the long Thanksgiving weekend. We loved the combination of beach and river, as well as the extraordinary provisioning of just about everything you could want in a vacation home. We had a peak of 15 family and friends and everyone had appropriate accommodations. More can be handled but then you need to break out the roll-away beds and convertible sofas with commensurate loss of privacy. The lighting system is sophisticated but also annoying in its complexity. The last night we somehow set the lights throughout the house to come on automatically 12 minutes after you turned them off, but it was finally resolved at 2am when the All Off button was found. So it wasn't perfect, but it truly was fantastic, the kind of weekend we wanted.

Owner's Response: Happy to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving on the beach at "Carpe Diem"! The lighting system is -- admittedly -- a little too advanced and "smart" for its own good, so it has a few idiosyncrasies. There is a section on this in our "Guide to Carpe Diem" that we leave out on the dining-room table, detailing scenarios like the one that you encountered. (Thanks to your feedback, I've revised the guide to give this section more prominence, as it was probably too easily overlooked prior to my changes). - Al Roberts, Property Manager, Beach Houses in Paradise

Amazing property

  • 5 of 5

This by far was the best property and property management I’ve dealt with. The house had everything you would need and more and the location was great. Al responded to any concerns we had within minutes. Couldn’t ask for a better 40th birthday location to spend with my family and friends....... we will be back.....

Best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

From the very moment of booking, Al was a champion of service. From help setting up payments to answering questions before we left, just incredible. After arriving a few hours early, Al led us to a place to get on the beach and play in the water before our homes were ready, the kids loved it.. Carpe Diem and As Good As it Gets. We had almost thirty people staying at the peak of activity and were able to accommodate them all. Not all bedrooms are private, but with some consideration and co-operation, there was plenty of room for all. And all enjoyed their stay... immensely. We were over prepared, the only thing you need is food and drink. It was all there, I mean everything. The water toys were used as much as possible. Paddle boards were a fave for the ladies, tying up and floating between docks enjoying the sun. The kids were all over the water with them. We were able to tie up our wave runners easily on the docks with a boat launch within site of the houses. Gas was available within sight of the homes as well. Talk about convenience, especially for an out of towner unfamiliar with the area. We celebrated our wedding on the beach, Oceanside. It was a small and very beautiful ceremony. A perfect place for a perfect day. The atmosphere in and around these homes made us appreciate how blessed we were too be able to experience such a place.

The ONLY reason this rental lost a star was because of the absence of home security, secondary to broken slider door locks throughout the home. Pet friendly, we didn't complain because we had our German Shepherd with us. But, please know if we had voiced the concern and were tolerant of the trip interruption, then Al would have had a repair made instantly, he's just that good!! And after he reads this review, we know it will be 1st on his to-do-list. We've traveled for many years & can say with conviction that Al was the most impressive Property Mgr we have ever had the pleasure to coordinate with from the very first VRBO contact. The management of this rental was superior in every way a customer could hope for and so much more!! If you enjoy sunrise coffee & sunset vino, then this is a superb location. Because the rental rests on a cliff of sand stone, during high tide the roaring ocean gave us a daily thrill of entertainment making us feel like maybe we were in Hawaii instead of FL! If you're brave enough to walk & sit near the edge during low tide, then you will be rewarded by the frequent sighting of very large, game fish & sea birds. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma eroded much of the beach area, but hopefully the ocean will replenish just enough for easier stepping down from the rental. Against our 2 different attempts, Irma kept the water at Bathtub Reef Beach too foggy for snorkeling. You go!! Camp fires started @ sunset on the riverside with flocks of sea birds were wonderfully relaxing. However, if you want to bike, then we suggest you load the bike rack. The rental is located on a narrow road without a shoulder or sidewalk. However, there are numerous, close by biking path/road options. Be sure to visit Stuart's Heritage Museum before touring the town. If you're lucky enough to catch Ms Judy, then you'll receive a quick, yet excellent history lesson. Fort Pierce is worth a 1/2 day trip. For a good meal & some music on the HI beach, hit Schucker's. Jensen's town is "very" small, but you must eat @ Crawdaddy's for the food, cocktails, & atmosphere. As far as packing for the trip, believe every single review regarding how very well & over stocked the rental is for kitchen/bath/linen necessities. And the toys, well let's just say they even stock water shoes & metal detectors for all ages. This is a gem of a beach rental. Our only disappointment was not meeting Al in year! Thank you Al & your team!!

Owner's Response: So glad to learn you had a great experience at Carpe Diem! It was our pleasure to check you in one day ahead of schedule free of charge, as you were without power at your N. Florida residence and dealing with your own Hurricane Irma woes. (Hopefully the lights were back on as you arrived home!) We were so fortunate to have escaped Irma's wrath at all of our properties. Glad that we could accommodate you earlier than expected. A September to remember! Being directly on the beach and just a stone's throw from the surf (literally), Carpe Diem frequently needs a light repair or two, so I'm not surprised you ran into an issue with a slider door. (As you were the first guests in the house after Hurricane Irma, I think the winds rattled those sliding-glass doors until a latch popped). Thank you again for the kind review, and when you rebook for next year, don't forget to claim the 40% in discounts we offer to HomeAway/VRBO "regulars" when re-booking on HomeAway/VRBO!

Nature lovers rejoice! Your beach house is located directly on the most bio-diverse river ecosystem in all of North America. (Manatees, dolphins, and more variety of marine life than anywhere on the continent!). When you cast your fishing rod off of your private dock, you are casting into the very same waters where the biodiversity measurements were taken in May 2015 by the Florida Oceanographic Society marine biologists. The house is also within walking distance of restaurants and three different museums/nature exhibits. You're also within 2 hours driving distance of Disney World and all the attractions in Orlando.

About the local community (Hutchinson Island and Martin County FL) -- Encompassing the communities of Port Salerno, Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Indiantown, Jupiter Island, Hobe Sound and Hutchinson Island, Martin County serves up beautiful beaches and more than 75 parks – not to mention the most bio-diverse lagoon ecosystem in the Northern hemisphere, the St. Lucie Inlet. All within two hours or less driving time of four international airports: Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando. Florida’s hidden gem, this is a place for unwinding and reconnecting.

In Martin County, you’ll find every kind of family activity to tickle your fancy, from rodeos to high-end shopping, art galleries, and one-of-a-kind museums to eco-friendly sea turtle adventures. Located just off A1A and accessible by a plethora of scenic avenues, Martin County is 45 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport, 90 minutes from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, almost two hours from Miami International Airport, and two hours from Orlando International Airport. This is a place for escaping, for making memories that last longer than tan lines.

Conveniently located on Florida’s East Coast, Martin County is part of an area known as the Treasure Coast. A real Florida gem that celebrates small town life and that hard to find old Florida feel. Martin County boasts a beautiful natural landscape from ocean, to river, to lake, and everything in between.
