About the property

Spacious 2 BR/2 BA oceanfront

Leave your worries behind when you relax in our 2 BR/2BA spacious, beachfront retreat in the Castaways condominium complex. From our fifth floor balcony, you can watch the sun rise and set, enjoy the ocean breeze and sounds of waves lapping the shore, and watch families chasing crabs at night with the lights of shrimp boats twinkling on the horizon. Our condo is just a few steps to everywhere that you might want to be: relaxation with a good book while the kids entertain themselves in the white sand and clear blue water, miles of shell-lined shoreline, fresh seafood prepared just the way you want it, fluffy pancakes and endless hot coffee, entertainment at The Hangout, bicycle and moped rentals across the street alongside cold, adult beverage store across the street to enhance your relaxation(no driving necessary;)). A short walk leads you to Alabama State parks with miles of trails for jogging, biking and observing nature at its finest as well as convenience stores and favorite local establishments. Further entertainment opportunities are within minutes on multiple golf courses, deep sea fishing, and water sports rentals nearby.

Our 1200 square foot condominium feels much larger with its breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico maximized by our double, sliding glass doors which open onto a large tiled balcony. The over-sized master suite has a king sized bed, spacious walk-in closet, and sitting area with private access to the balcony as well as a large picture window overlooking the beach. The master suite also has a flat screen TV and iHome stereo, a private bathroom with double sink vanity, plenty of storage and separate bath area. The guest bedroom is furnished with twin beds, two dressers to keep the clutter to a minimum and private access to a second bathroom, shared with the living area. Along with its awesome view, the living room offers a queen pullout sofa, large flat screen TV with DVD and cable, Xbox and stereo system/CD player. The bright, L-shaped kitchen has ample counter and cabinet space for all that you need as well as a toaster, blender, keurig , new appliances and is fully stocked with plenty of pans and cooking gear. Luxurious linens await you at the end of your day, with high thread-count sheets, plush pillows, fluffy towels, and pillow top mattress covers.

Outside, you will find a large L-shaped, beachfront pool with a corner fountain and expansive decking perfect for sunbathing, reading a good book and watching the kids play in the water. The pool extends underneath the condo to provide relief from the sun with picnic tables and seating in the shade, and poolside bathrooms are convenient for swimmers and beach combers with sandy feet. Guests have access to two charcoal grills for grilling fresh seafood or hamburgers and hotdogs for your picnic by the pool. Our fifth floor balcony is directly above the pool and perfect for calling down when dinner is ready or monitoring older children in the pool or on the beach. Check out our new porch furniture in the last picture, made from recycled milk containers but sturdy enough to feel like wood!

At the end of the day, or during pop-up thunderstorms, there is plenty of space to spread out(and stay dry) on the spacious balcony or in the master suite, while the kids enjoy a movie in their room or battle on the Xbox. We have also provided our guests with board games, paperback books and puzzles for added relaxation.

There are several options for dining on the beach within steps from our condo, and a leisurely 20 minute stroll along the shore will take you to the Alabama State pier, where you can rent fishing gear, buy bait and catch Grouper, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, and Red Snapper, to name a few. When walking down the beach in either direction, you will appreciate the wide open, under populated beaches in front of our condominium. The low density complexes on either side of our 36-unit Castaways complex provide our guests with the ability to spread out and relax without having to claim their spot on the beach every morning. Guests may use our sun umbrella and beach chairs or may choose to rent lounge chairs with built-in umbrellas daily on the beach. Also included for our guests’ enjoyment are boogie boards, beach blankets, pool toys, sand toys, kites and bocce ball set. Once you stay with us, you will wonder why you ever looked elsewhere! Come put your toes in the sand….

About Chloe Harden

Our family likes to vacation in a relaxed setting while maintaining the utmost in comfort. We are just as busy as everyone else these days, but we put aside time to get away from the stresses of every day life as a family. We hope that your family enjoys our home away from home as much as we do!

Chloe Harden purchased this condo in 2012

Why Chloe Harden chose Gulf Shores

We fell in love with Gulf Shores a few years ago and decided to buy this particular condominium because of the wide open beaches in front of the unit, the pool, workout room, and close proximity to many local attractions. The kids LOVE to visit The Hangout where you can get a foot-tall milkshake while watching the wait staff dance on the tables when certain songs are played. Also a short walk to the pier for excellent fishing, year-round and several beachfront restaurants are steps away when you want to dine out!

What makes this condo unique

The double, sliding glass doors in our condo open up wide and seem to bring the ocean indoors. The floor plan allows us all to spread out at the end of the day and awaken on different schedules early in the morning to watch the seagulls while drinking our coffee. The spacious kitchen allows the cook plenty of space and upgraded amenities so that cooking on vacation doesn't seem like a chore. The dehumidifier also makes the inside air so refreshing after baking in the sun all day at the beach!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Chloe, Your condo was perfect! This was our third annual trip for four moms who met just a few years ago at a Bible study. Lots of talking, praying, a few tears and major relaxation was had here. I hope we get to use it again next year. Loved it!

Hidden Beachfront Treasure with All the Perks

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This was one of the best decisions we have ever made in regard to our vacations. The condo was immaculate and well-equipped. The owner left menus, flyers, and coupons to familiarize us with the area and all it offers (complete with personally written reviews of the local businesses). We are a family of six and we were very comfortable. The view and amenities in the building were amazing. Family memories were made and will last a lifetime. Thank you. We will be back!

Recommend, but you should know...

  • 4 of 5

The location for this condo is amazing! We really enjoyed that the beach wasn't crowded, and the view was amazing. The condo had plenty of space for myself and my two children. The condo was nicely decorated, kitchen was well stocked, and the supplies for the beach was a nice touch.

I recommend this property but feel that potential renters should have some more info.

As a mom, I loved the idea of the pool being partly shaded. However the part under the building is quite small and there isn't much shade until the sun moves behind the building. Also there was nowhere in the shade that I could sit and be able to observe the whole pool while my kids were swimming. The 90 degree turn of the pool and the big support posts/walls under the building prevented a clear view.

The walk onto the beach is short, but there are steps from the pool deck down to the sand. Fortunately my oldest child was strong enough to help me lift our beach cart down the steps. This could be an obstacle for a parent alone with smaller kids and all the beach stuff.

The master bedroom was lovely. I was disappointed the window didn't open. It has plenty of storage and the bed was comfortable. The twin beds in the 2nd room were great for the children, but I don't think they'd be comfortable for adults.

The building is older and that means there are issues. The parking lot and spaces are very small. We were there in an off time and I can't imagine what it would be like navigating that parking lot full of minivans and suvs. It stormed while we were there and the power flickered many times. Once, the power went out for about 45 minutes. The elevator also broke down one afternoon after a power flicker and wasn't fixed until the next morning. I only had decent wifi service one of my nights. The winds were strong while we were there and the metallic accordion doors on all the balconies banged and rattled in the wind. It was quite annoying.

During the storm, a very loud gurgling noise started coming out of the bath tub drain in the master bath. Fortunately, I was able to go to sleep by shutting both doors between the bedroom and tub. I sent a recording of the sound to the owner, but never heard back.

Chloe was responsive to me during my stay, but communication before and after the stay wasn't prompt.

I would consider staying here again, and would have a good trip. But there were enough issues, that I wanted other prospective renters to have the knowledge.

Cozy, comfortable and clean condo with a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time here! Condo was very clean when we arrived and everything listed as amenities was available as expected. The location was great for us because we love walking to eat and explore, and there were a lot of places to visit within walking distance. The bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable. Choke was very quick to respond when we had issues with the wifi and showed haste in getting the issue fixed if we preferred. The bulletin board in the kitchen was full of lots of menus for places to eat and brochures of fun activities in the area if you're coming to Gulf Shores without a plan. We loved our week here and will definitely look to book again in the future! Thanks Chloe!
