This is the perfect vacation cottage for a couple or single person who is looking to stay in 'Down Town Saint Marys Village' and be located directly on the beautiful marsh with views of the Saint Marys River! A brief walk one block to the river front parks and city- center of Saint Marys Village.

Experience a piece of the history of Saint Marys in this adorable 'Commissary Cottage'. The Cottage is part of the 'Historic Collier-Casey House Estate', circa 1874, and the building was the original 'Commissary' for the 'SM&K' (Saint Marys/Kingsland Railroad), dating back to 1865.

The Cottage was completely renovated and decorated in 2011 and is the newest rental property in Saint Marys. The cottage is a one-bedroom 'efficiency style' set-up with sleeping, living area, and complete 'full size' kitchen and separate full bath.

Amenities include central HVAC, 42' flat screen TV, private deck, washer and dryer, WiFi, refrigerator, 4-burner stove, microwave, complete kitchen cooking and serving utensils, all linens, and hair dryer.

Sit on the private deck among beautiful flowers and landscape and watch the sun rise over the marsh and Inter-coastal Waterway, with views of Cumberland Island and Fernandina Beach and the pass to the Atlantic! Also a perfect location for Bird Watching!!!

It is a perfect location for a couple and offers plenty of room for a week or longer stay! Combined with the other two rentals, it is also a perfect situation for an event of large family reunion to sleep up to 14 people.

The tropical setting of the fully landscaped 2+ acre property, with its palm trees, moss-draped oaks, and southern pecan trees, is situated directly on the Marsh to the East, with un-obscured views of Cumberland Island, 'the pass' to the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and Fernandina Beach, FL.; and un-obscured River views to the south (front) of the property! No other rental property in Saint Marys offers these beautiful water views.

This property is a 5 minute of less walk to town center (only one “small town block” to the Saint Marys River waterfront and village shops and restaurants)! We are Don Pierce and Linda Harris. We both retired to Saint Marys from Atlanta, GA where Don owns a high-end Antique business, now being run by his son, and Linda retired from a Commercial Real Estate brokerage firm.

After seeing the 'Southern Living Magazine' article 'There's something about Saint Marys', in 2006, we both came South for a visit, loved what we saw and immediately purchased property for our home. Our home was built in 2007 and the rest is 'history' -- we feel in love with the town and people and it now 'feels like home'.

Having our own home locally allows us to oversee the maintenance and rental of the property and to get to become personally acquainted with our guests!

Saint Marys offers 'southern hospitality' at its best! 'The locals' are warm, inviting, and friendly and it is not uncommon for us to include guests in social gatherings. If you visit Saint Marys, you will also fall in love with it and that is exactly how many of our locals decided to make Saint Marys their home. A visiting friend told us 'I never thought I would want to leave Atlanta and my family and children, but I'm ready to call my boss and tell him I'm not coming back'!

A perfect retreat

A wonderful cottage and an ideal experience for someone looking for peace and a time to reflect and recharge. Very well-equipped, very comfortable, light and airy with lovely views over the salt marsh. My favorite moments: sitting on the deck in the evening, with the breeze coming in from the coast, and a glass of wine in my hand. Don is a delightful host who has created a real oasis for a single person or a couple. The waterfront -- with the Cumberland island ferry -- is close by, and if you want a day at the beach Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are about 45 minutes away, St Simons and Jekyll Islands about an hour. I loved this place, and will certainly be back!

Cozy, clean, complete, Commissary

It was just as we hoped it would be. The cottage was very clean, and complete with everything we needed for our stay. The owner Don has some very interesting stories. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and definitely rent there again.

Quaint, Quiet, The Quintessential Escape

If I could step back in time to a place where life was more simplified and filled with Southern charm, St. Mary's would have been my locale of choice. Further, if in my time traveling I could also choose a peaceful place to lay my head, a place where simplicity and rejuvenation walk hand in hand with the calming force of nature, The Commissary Cottage on the Collier-Casey Historic Estate would be my perfect destination. Romantic and refined, it exceeded all our expectations.

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Don Pearce, a true gentleman of the South. Following a most enjoyable tour of the stately and beautiful main house, Don led us to our little hideaway, opened the bright red door and led us into the delightfully appointed cottage. Replete with high ceilings, pleasant coastal furnishings and everything we would need to enhance our stay, the Commissary Cottage was all we'd hoped for and more.

The booking process was both professional and courteous. We were pleased to note that our little toy poodle was considered a welcome guest, too. Reservation details were clear, concise and promptly forwarded to us. May I say that I am in the travel profession myself, and recognize a classy operation when I see one. Both Don and his daughter Juane were indeed impressive.

I would recommend the Commissary Cottage to even the most discriminating traveler. I'm already planning our next visit, as well as recommending the property to all our friends and family. Until our next visit, I hope future guests will treasure their happy moments there every bit as much as we did. Thank you Don and Juane for helping to make our anniversary getaway weekend a memorable one !

The quaint town with our friendly 'locals', is steeped in history and is the second oldest city in America. It is 'The Gateway' to Cumberland Island, a US National Seashore park notably known as the wedding site of John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s wedding location, and for its Wild Horses that roam the Island. Ferries leave/return twice daily from the water front in Saint Marys. The waterways of Saint Marys offer great boating, canoeing, and fishing and we have no traffic lights or traffic jams!

Saint Marys is centrally located between Savannah, GA (90 Miles to our North) and Jacksonville, FL (20 miles south), and the oldest city in the US, Saint Augustine, FL (81 miles south) as well as all the coastal cities along the I-95 corridor from Tybee Island, Sea Island, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island, GA to our north; to Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Jacksonville Beach, Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach, FL south. Orlando, FL, home to Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studio Theme parks, is also an easy 3 hour drive from Saint Marys!

Saint Marys is host to several festivals and events throughout the year including our Rock Shrimp Festival; Hay Days with Town Scarecrow Stroll and 'Ghost Story Tours'; Christmas white Lighting, Merchants Open House and Tour of Homes; Mardi Gras Festival and Ball, and was a featured city in 'Lovetown USA' series, aired on OWN - Oprah Winfrey Network.
