This is the perfect vacation cottage for a couple or single person who is looking to stay in 'Down Town Saint Marys Village' and be located directly on the beautiful marsh with views of the Saint Marys River! A brief walk one block to the river front parks and city- center of Saint Marys Village.
Experience a piece of the history of Saint Marys in this adorable 'Commissary Cottage'. The Cottage is part of the 'Historic Collier-Casey House Estate', circa 1874, and the building was the original 'Commissary' for the 'SM&K' (Saint Marys/Kingsland Railroad), dating back to 1865.
The Cottage was completely renovated and decorated in 2011 and is the newest rental property in Saint Marys. The cottage is a one-bedroom 'efficiency style' set-up with sleeping, living area, and complete 'full size' kitchen and separate full bath.
Amenities include central HVAC, 42' flat screen TV, private deck, washer and dryer, WiFi, refrigerator, 4-burner stove, microwave, complete kitchen cooking and serving utensils, all linens, and hair dryer.
Sit on the private deck among beautiful flowers and landscape and watch the sun rise over the marsh and Inter-coastal Waterway, with views of Cumberland Island and Fernandina Beach and the pass to the Atlantic! Also a perfect location for Bird Watching!!!
It is a perfect location for a couple and offers plenty of room for a week or longer stay! Combined with the other two rentals, it is also a perfect situation for an event of large family reunion to sleep up to 14 people.
The tropical setting of the fully landscaped 2+ acre property, with its palm trees, moss-draped oaks, and southern pecan trees, is situated directly on the Marsh to the East, with un-obscured views of Cumberland Island, 'the pass' to the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and Fernandina Beach, FL.; and un-obscured River views to the south (front) of the property! No other rental property in Saint Marys offers these beautiful water views.
This property is a 5 minute of less walk to town center (only one “small town block” to the Saint Marys River waterfront and village shops and restaurants)! As stated in Southern Living Magazine article featuring Saint Marys in 2006, “There’s something about Saint Marys”! If you haven’t experienced Saint Marys you are missing a rare gem!

We are Don Pierce and Linda Harris. We both retired to Saint Marys from Atlanta, GA where Don owns a high-end Antique business, now being run by his son, and Linda retired from a Commercial Real Estate brokerage firm.
After seeing the 'Southern Living Magazine' article 'There's something about Saint Marys', in 2006, we both came South for a visit, loved what we saw and immediately purchased property for our home. Our home was built in 2007 and the rest is 'history' -- we feel in love with the town and people and it now 'feels like home'.
Having our own home locally allows us to oversee the maintenance and rental of the property and to get to become personally acquainted with our guests!
Don Pierce and Linda Harris purchased this cottage in 2011
Saint Mary is our home and is such a special place, we love being able to share it with others and to provide visitors an opportunity to experience the Village and River front of Saint Marys!
Saint Marys offers 'southern hospitality' at its best! 'The locals' are warm, inviting, and friendly and it is not uncommon for us to include guests in social gatherings. If you visit Saint Marys, you will also fall in love with it and that is exactly how many of our locals decided to make Saint Marys their home. A visiting friend told us 'I never thought I would want to leave Atlanta and my family and children, but I'm ready to call my boss and tell him I'm not coming back'!
We rented the Commissary Cottage in late September and planned to stay for a week while we had our boat in the St. Mary's Boatyard for new bottom paint. Due to Hurricane Matthew and the resulting cleanup, we ended up staying for over 2 weeks. Don and Linda were wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed getting to know them. They were absolutely fantastic in making sure we had a place to stay until our boat was completed and back in the water. We just can't thank them enough for the peace of mind they gave us - knowing we would have a place to stay.
The cottage is the old Commissary for the railroad that has been beautifully renovated. It's very quaint and cozy and has everything you would need (and more) for your stay. The views of the marsh and St. Mary's river were incredible. We really loved our afternoon "Happy Hour" sitting on the side porch in the big rockers enjoying the view of Fernandina Beach and Cumberland Island. We would see the Cumberland Island Ferry go by several times a day. We also enjoyed the beautiful sunrise each morning and walking to downtown St. Mary's which is a charming little town with a beautiful riverfront and city park.
We were so comfortable in the cottage and would definitely recommend it to others. We are looking forward to returning to the cottage in the future. We can't thank Don and Linda enough for their kind hospitality and thoughtfulness during our stay.
There is little I can add to the wonderful things that have already been written about the Commissary Cottage and hosts, Don and Linda. This is indeed a little piece of heaven and I am so grateful for my time there.
Unbelievably amazing cottage. Working with Don and Linda was one of the best experiences I've ever had with renting anywhere. The cottage was absolutely beautiful and had everything we needed. The Cumberland Island ferry is extremely close by and easy to get to. The city of St. Mary's is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We will certainly be back !!
After a long winter in Canada, our stay at Commissary Cottage in St. Marys, GA at the end of March was just what we needed. The accommodations lived up to our expectations and the owners, Linda and Don, were wonderful hosts. The cottage was nicely appointed and the use of the bikes was an added bonus. We spent hours exploring St. Marys by bicycle. The cottage has views of the salt marsh and the outdoor sitting areas all had great views. We enjoyed the opportunity to relax in the warmth and we also enjoyed a fabulous trip to Cumberland Island. The natural beauty of the island truly makes it a treasure.
We rented the Commissary Cottage for a week to escape the snow and ice of a particularly harsh Vermont winter. We could not have chosen a more perfect place. The cottage is charming, immaculate, and well equipped. The restaurants, bookstore, antiques/art galleries, and the ferry to Cumberland Island are all within walking distance in downtown St. Mary's. Okefenokee and the Sea Islands are no more than an hour's drive away. Our gracious hosts, Don and Linda, made our stay especially memorable. And, oh, that sunrise over the marsh!
We stayed in the lovely cottage for a week and it was wonderful! It has every thing you need and more. It is very clean and comfortable and cute! It has one room with the sofa, kitchen and bed and a very nice sized bathroom. The space is much bigger than it appears in the photos and we felt very comfortable. Within walking distance is: the river front in St. Marys - a very nice, small, quiet town, several good places to eat, and the ferry to Cumberland Island. Cumberland Island is magical - absolutely beautiful! We also went to Crooked River State Park, which is very close by and went kayaking. It is a very nice state park. We also drove to Okefenokee Swamp and went kayaking there. It was not a long drive at all. If you love nature, you will love St. Marys. We plan to return and we will definitely stay in the cottage again or we may rent one of the other houses on the property and bring family. By the way, the cottage sits on the marsh in front of the other properties, so it is still very private. Oh and I almost forgot - if you open the back door, you can watch the sunrise from the bed! Now you can't beat that!! (Especially if your hubby brings you coffee!)
The quaint town with our friendly 'locals', is steeped in history and is the second oldest city in America. It is 'The Gateway' to Cumberland Island, a US National Seashore park notably known as the wedding site of John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s wedding location, and for its Wild Horses that roam the Island. Ferries leave/return twice daily from the water front in Saint Marys. The waterways of Saint Marys offer great boating, canoeing, and fishing and we have no traffic lights or traffic jams!
Saint Marys is centrally located between Savannah, GA (90 Miles to our North) and Jacksonville, FL (20 miles south), and the oldest city in the US, Saint Augustine, FL (81 miles south) as well as all the coastal cities along the I-95 corridor from Tybee Island, Sea Island, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island, GA to our north; to Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Jacksonville Beach, Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach, FL south. Orlando, FL, home to Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studio Theme parks, is also an easy 3 hour drive from Saint Marys!
Saint Marys is host to several festivals and events throughout the year including our Rock Shrimp Festival; Hay Days with Town Scarecrow Stroll and 'Ghost Story Tours'; Christmas white Lighting, Merchants Open House and Tour of Homes; Mardi Gras Festival and Ball, and was a featured city in 'Lovetown USA' series, aired on OWN - Oprah Winfrey Network.
