Born and raised in San Diego but currently married and living in Canada, it makes it difficult for us to get to our beach house as often as we would like, so we have decided to share it with you.
Nancy Chiasson purchased this bungalow in 1986
This house has been our family getaway for two generations. Located only half an hour from the fun of Ensenada, but with a unique country atmosphere and extraordinary natural beauty all its own.
The constantly changing view of Todos Santos Bay and the joy of being able to step off the front porch and onto the beach make this place paradise.
We loved staying in Punta Banda at Nancy's place! I had grown up in Ensenada, but this was my first time vacationing in this area and it was pure magic. We became friends with the lovely neighbor and all the people are laid back and nice. We bought delicious tamales also from a man who was selling them door-to-door.
The house is literally right on the beach. It has all the items you need. My only suggestion would be to bring an extra blanket or two for colder months as it was quite chilly even with a fire going. This particular April was chilly. We also brought house slippers which was smart because the tile floor gets cold underfoot. We loved the fireplace and utilized it a few nights. There is also an outdoor firepit. However, unlike the picture of the house on here, we could not find a hammock which was a bit disappointing. Also, when we arrived there was heaps of trash in the patio creating lots of flies. We called the house manager and she came right away to get rid of the trash and recycling.
We brought our bocce ball set and played daily in the beautiful white sand and discovered the hot springs down the beach by La Jolla camp. They are hidden right below the wet sand and people were digging holes.
It's extremely safe and enjoyable. My husband ran the beach daily and I walked. Overall it was an amazing experience and we will be back. And, keep your eye out you just might see dolphins right in front of the house!
We had a great stay - the house is so cute and cozy and had everything we needed. It was an easy drive from LA, we will be back!
Pretty good for the value
The property is very nice, well kept, kids loved the chimney. Very nice view of the ocean, makes it feel like you have your very own private beach. Would definitely stay again. Everything you need to make it a comfortable stay is provided. The only recommendation would be to let more ventilation into the house so that it does not smell like if it was always closed up. But that can be fixed by opening all the windows. The ocean breeze will do the rest.
Nancy's Beachhouse at Estero:
We loved this place.
Quaint, eclectic, authentic, homey.
Beautiful little brick house with arched door and windows, right on the beach. Short walk to estuary and close to nature area (incredible bird life!)
Clean, well equipped and well taken care of... kitchen utensils and cookware, toiletries, blankets, pretty self-sufficient little house. Double bed in bedroom and two couches in main room (one opens as a sleeper for two).
Irka was helpful and accessible by phone, and Nancy's communications were clear and useful. Wi-Fi on site and decent cell coverage.
The mattress was nicely firm, but had a noticeable dip in the middle. (A couple of cross supports and a stack of magazines maybe?)
An interesting, beautiful, unique get away. Just what we were looking for!
I'd like to keep this place a secret, but won't. I must share mine and my husband's experience with anyone considering a perfectly relaxing escape to a beach house with all the amenities you can possibly need. The 4 expansive arched windows in the living room gave us a perfect view of the beach and also of the mountains toward The Bufadora (blow hole). Since our stay was almost a week long, some days we chose to stay in and relax the entire day appreciating the beach which included many hours of walking to the far end of the strip of homes; it was said "the stars" stay at the biggest homes furthest from our little bungalow. Staying at home didn't mean there was nothing to do: I dared to hop onto an ultralight plane that flew up and down the strip most of the day--what a blast! There's also horseback riding to be enjoyed but we ran out of time to do that. The best place to eat, which we came across by accident, was the Marina Bar & Grill only a few blocks away. The Blow Hole, Estero Beach (kind of fancy), and a cool little restaurant/bar Sharky's--again, only a hop skip away--are all great places to eat and chat with people. There's no doubt my husband and I will be coming back to this little treasure of a house. Thank you, Nancy, for making your home available to rent!
The managers, Erika and her son, Matt, were only a phone call away for any questions and even came to the rescue when we locked ourselves out.
