About Denise Hofstra

We purchased this darling cottage when our girls were younger. It's been a great place to get away over the years.Whether it be for a quiet retreat, a ski weekend, hunting or a summer vacation on Green Lake, we've enjoyed having the cottage at our disposal. Now our girls are married with children of their own. We make it up to the cottage occasionally, but thought we would share our piece of serenity for those wishing to rent for an extended period.

Denise Hofstra purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Denise Hofstra chose Northwest

This peaceful cottage was the original homestead/cottage on Birch Point. People have been vacationing here for years and we recognized a gem when we found it. Interlochen Fine Arts camp can be seen from the lakefront. This would be a great rental for families attending the camp.

What makes this cottage unique

The great room has a beautiful brick wood-burning fireplace with a large hearth. Two glass sliders open up to a large screen porch that faces the lake. Be it summer or winter, it makes for a beautiful setting.

This cabin is a great find with four bedrooms and two baths. It is cozy and homey. The fireplace is wonderful in the winter.

Great house and lake with beautiful sunsets

  • 5 of 5

Great house with beautiful lake! The house met all of our needs. The beds were very comfortable and there was ample seating in the living room. Kitchen had everything we needed. The screened porch was a great place to keep our kayaks and offered a great place to eat outside without worrying about bugs. There is path that leads to the lake and fire ring and another picinic table. The water is warm and crystal clear with a nice sandy bottom. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking in this quiet and peaceful nook of Green Lake. Grocery store, ice cream, Dollar General and mini-golf all close. House was in the shade and stayed cool and comfortable. We enjoyed watching a bald eagle several days while we were there! Close enough to do day trips to Mackinac Island and Silver Lake Sand Dunes where you can rent dune buggeys and ride the dunes.

Childhood vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here many many times as a child! The memories this place brings back are great! Best memory is riding the pontoon over to the music camp property and listening to the music with my family! Very glad to see it is still there!

Great Stay at Green Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay at Green Lake Cottage. Weather was very cool but the woodfire place made reading in front of the fire very inviting. The cottage was clean, well stocked and the beds comfortable. The lakefront area had a sandy bottom; providing a niced wading/swimming area. The manager was very pleasant and helpful. We look forward to visiting again.

Everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

The house fit 5 of us comfortably allowing 3 singles their own room and one couple their own room. Just a short trip (15 - 20 minutes) into Traverse City. Very secluded so we had no traffic going by and saw very few people other than our party. Kitchen small, but functional and had everything we needed. The common areas were open, comfortable, and furnished nicely. Really appreciated there were items like paper towels, garbage bags and toilet paper as we've experienced rentals before where we always had to make a dollar store run for these basics. Had dinner at one of the local restaurants (5 minutes away) and got coffee at Bud's (5 minutes away) a couple of times also. Enjoyed watching the industrious squirrels and chipmunks each morning as we enjoyed our coffee. One recommendation -- a detailed map of the subdivision would help as the house is hard to find once you leave the main road. We had tried getting a detail map from some of the online map sources in advance, but the house address does not come up on those sites. We stumbled across the house by accident and were glad we weren't coming in for the first time after dark because we'd have never found it. Would definately come back again.

Relaxing, peaceful, FUN!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our dogs last summer. The place was very clean and comfortable, and well stocked with everything: linens, towels, pots and pans, etc. The setting is very peaceful and secluded. We rented a boat from the local marina- there is a boat launch where they will meet you within 10 minutes driving, but you can keep the boat on the property if you rent it for more than 1 day. We went fishing several days- I even caught dinner one night!! The dogs loved playing in the water and were pooped out by the time we left!! If you are on the lake and go over towards Interlochen camp, you can hear the kids practicing- really delightful for a music lover!! This place was great and the owner and caretaker were very attentive and accommodating. Couple things to note: this is truly a natural setting: bring your bug spray for you AND your dogs (although our dogs had absolutely NO problems with anything but mosquitos- no fleas or ticks). There are grocery stores and a farmer's market within close range, as well as restaurants etc. We had an WONDERFUL time, and if we go back to Interlochen, we will certainly stay here again!! Thank you!!
