Twain Harte Vacation At Its Best! Lake Privileges, Central Location!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,500 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Rural but only 5-10 minutes short walk to town center

Nestled in the Pines, a five minute stroll to downtown Twain Harte, this charming 100+ year-old rustic cabin offers the perfect place to simply relax or plan one of many activities available. With its English cottage style furnishings, prime location and modern amenities, this cabin provides room to build lasting memories.

The bright and spacious living room offers comfortable seating where you can watch movies (on the internet-connected TV, no cable), play games or simply relax with a book in the cozy bay window.

The country kitchen has a rustic pine table seating 8 and is fully equipped.

Both main bedrooms are furnished with comfy Queen size beds. There's also an adorable loft with two single beds. A favorite with kids!

The sunny front deck nestled amongst tall pines is equipped with a barbeque, a fireplace table and comfortable seating. It's the perfect spot for entertaining or simply putting your feet up.

The private backyard has a dining table with 6 chairs in the shade of a centuries-old oak tree.

During the warmer weather, activities such as swimming, floating carelessly on a raft, hiking 'The Rock' or simply enjoying digging your toes in the sand are all possible at the Twain Harte Lake. (YOU HAVE LAKE PRIVILEGES.)

If you prefer to stay dry, you can enjoy a fabulous round of golf at the Twain Harte public golf course or use the public tennis courts. One of our family favorites is the pee-wee 9-hole course for the less experienced golfer.

If shopping is your sport there are several stores just a few minutes walk from the cabin. During the summer, the town offers free concerts and movie nights in the park on the weekends.

During the cold season, activities such as skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort only 10 miles away. If you prefer ice skating the Long Barn rink is just up the road. Our family has many fond memories of sledding and tubing in the Pinecrest and Strawberry snowparks.

For those who prefer indoor activities, Black Oak Casino offers good food and fun for the whole family, or simply enjoy the cabin with its fireplace and well equipped library.

This cabin is the perfect starting point to many destinations such as:

- Twain Harte Lake (1mile)

- Dodge Ridge Ski Resort (10 miles)

- Pinecrest Lake (10 miles)

- Strawberry (15 miles)

- Explore gold country in the town of Columbia (17 miles)

- Yosemite (85 miles)

- Mountain Wineries

- Black Oak Casino (6 miles)

- Moaning Caverns (25 miles)

- Sonora (12 miles)

One absolute highlight is that the cabin is about 5 minutes walk from arguably the best sports bar and family restaurant in Tuolumne County. Draft beer, burgers, salads, desserts -- the food is great (and you don't have to drive back)!

About Frances West

Our hectic family life in Silicon Valley made choosing a vacation home where we could get together and build precious memories extremely important.

Frances West purchased this cabin in 1994

Why Frances West chose Twain Harte

Rather than a second home we wanted a cozy rustic cabin and we fell in love with this one! It's one of the first two properties ever built in Twain Harte, yet it comes with modern conveniences and comfort.

What makes this cabin unique

Its perfect location in the heart of Twain Harte and the beautiful surrounding trees make this cabin a gem! "The Rock" is a winner!

This cabin is in the Sierra Foothills in the "Mother Lode" area where gold was discovered in California in 1849. We recommend you visit Columbia (a historic town from the gold rush era, about 30-45 minutes drive away). Also recommended, especially on hot days, is to go gold panning in Woods Creek -- visit "Gold Prospecting Adventures" in Jamestown. Another highly-recommended favorite is the National Hotel in Jamestown - historic bar and restaurant with great food and friendly service.

Lovely, well-appointed rustic getaway

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay amongst the trees. Lots of homes nestled close together in this cute wooded enclave. The living room was especially pleasant and there was ample space to sit around, relax and rejuvenate while connecting with family or friends. I really appreciated being able to bring our dog. In warmer weather, we would have enjoyed the deck very much. Important details were generally attended to. Nice big kitchen table and ability to cook. However, the beds were pretty uncomfortable and the sheets provided were 100% polyester. If you are a sensitive sleeper, you may want to be aware of this in advance. Also, it's no fault of the owner but in order to be warm, it's necessary to crank up the hot dry air. Arrival and departure were easy and care-free.

Comfortable and plenty of room!

  • 4 of 5

Our recent stay In Twain Harte was very enjoyable. Wish we had snow but Mother Nature is unpredictable this February. The cabin was very confortable for game playing, eating, and sleeping. The loft space was perfect for the teenagers to have their giggle time. The queen bed was small for me and my husband to share but only because we are used to a Cal King at home. I would have liked to have had ziplock bags or foil in the kitchen to save leftover food in the fridge. And I could not locate any potholders for removing hot items from the stove. I happened to bring extra paper products and it was a good thing since only 1 roll of toilet paper was provided.

We enjoyed our time and appreciated the use of your rental.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had such a nice visit to Twain Harte. This property was just perfect for our family of four. The living room is cozier than the pictures portray (two comfy sofas). It’s stocked with most all you’ll need (except a can opener ;)). Being so close to town was definitely a plus. We hope to come back and enjoy Twain Harte in the summer!

Beds squeek and groan if you take a deep breath. Covers on bed worn out, glad we brought our own!

Mostly it's the hidden fees that were we were not told about ahead of time. She charges if she decides you used the grill too much, or if you use the linens, or if you don't wash all the dishes. And, she expects you to mop the floors and take the garbage cans to the curb if you are there on Monday. Really? Why did I pay a cleaning fee?
