New, Custom beach home, boat, fire pit, attached apartment, July availability!

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,300 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, PLUS studio apt,, 3 bath, 2 laundry, air, 2 fireplaces, 3 decks, more

This flexible custom green home (studio apartment can by utilized as separate quarters), lake escape, completed in the spring of 2015, rests just 15 feet from the water's edge. It has been designed for your vacation relaxation, comfort and privacy and to take advantage of spectacular views and natural light. It is air conditioned and has its own water filtration system. There is even a 'Secret, Hidden Room' where you can relax and hide yourself away.

The open floor plan and masive windows provide you with exquisite panoramas of 2000 acre Duck Lake. From wherever you are sipping your coffee, enjoying dinner, thinking about paddle boarding or catching a big fish, you will feel as though you are on a boat, because all you see is water from almost every room.

We even made the first level handicap accessible.

The top or entrance level, with its expansive floor to ceiling main window, greets you with a dramatic view of the lake. The open floor plan means whether you are baking in the kitchen on the gas stove, sitting down for dinner or lounging in the living room in front of the fire place and watching TV, you will be mesmerized by the lake view. Here also is a 'secret, hidden, room (if you can't find it, we will give you hints!) with a chaise, convertible twin bed. A door leads to a deck where you will want to grill and enjoy the view. The wide circular stairway leads to a cozy lake view window seat, and then the second floor. The main bedroom with a king size bed and its own TV, offers a beautiful view of the lake, as does the second bedroom with a Queen size bed. The third bedroom has two twin size beds which can easily be moved to make a King. A door leads to a lakeside covered deck - a perfect place for morning coffee or to sit in the shade.

Follow the winding stairway to the private garden level studio apartment, or cottage get-away. This is the perfect accommodation for family or guests desiring their own space. OR it can serve as additional space to watch a movie, play games, write that novel or read one from our library. It includes a kitchen, super comfortable custom Queen Murphy Bed, full bath, fireplace, its own washer and dryer and flat screen TV with extended cable. If you or your guests do desire even more privacy, this studio apartment can be securely closed off from the other living areas. Walk out the slider directly to the beach, lie down in the double hammock, dangle your feet in the water from the dock or enjoy a campfire right on the beach.

Although there are many choices to make for surrounding area excursions, if you choose to escape the outside world for a bit and not leave this charming cottage, we have what it needs to keep you entertained ... from a rowboat to fire pit, WiFi, books, music, 3 flat screen TV''s with expanded cable, games, a gas grill, 3 decks for lounging, and menus for home delivery. We even arrange for in-home massages, a personal trainer, or catering for a special event.

A short walk will take you to the world Famous Interlochen Center for the Arts for a concert or other event. Frog Pond village is a 5 minute drive, as are area restaurants, boutique, art galleries, antique shops, sidewalk cafes and coffee shops, shopping, the State Park, a yoga studio, quilt shop and more. Tom's grocery store in a 5 minute drive.

Your biggest decision of the day may be whether to enjoy the breeze and view from the hammock, one of the three decks, from the window seat or living room.

We look forward to meeting you and making your vacation a peaceful, happy, memorable one!

About Claudia and Michael Delp

We had been looking for a 'getaway' on the water for years, something close to the Interlochen Center for the Arts, close to town and activites, yet quiet, peaceful and secluded. We couldn't believe our luck in 1993 when we came upon property at the end of a road (then with an old boathouse), not visible to any passers-by, and with the State Park behind it, affording additional privacy. Plus it was within easy, less than a mile, 10 - 15 walking distance of Interlochen Center for the Arts! (A paved trail takes you through the State Park, where you may want to stop for an ice cream cone)!) It has always been a joy for us to rent, meeting people from all around the country. We hope our new 'boathouse cottage' offers all of the warmth and coziness of the old boathouse, along with all the up-to-date amenities and comforts necessary to welcome travelers. We hope you will feel as though they have discovered a place you want to return to again and again...

Claudia and Michael Delp purchased this house in 1993

Why Claudia and Michael Delp chose Interlochen

Location, location, location! We envisioned the 2300 sq foot cottage as a boathouse, with ample space and privacy for guests. But we also wanted an area that could double and serve as an 'artists studio'. And we think we pulled it off! As an author, Mike has written many stories and poems here, as well as visiting musicians, actors and other artists who have asked to use this space to hone their skills.

What makes this house unique

We wanted a place where family or friends could stay while visiting us, while comfortably maintaining their own space and privacy. That is why we incorporated a light filled studio apartment with a 9' ceiling, kitchen and fireplace into the design. When the door is left open between the living areas it can serve as additional living space, yoga or workout area, gathering space, coffee bar or movie room. But when closed it becomes a welcomed separate apartment, allowing guests more freedom.

We fell in love with this property site because of its seclusion, proximity to the water, and the fact that it is still close to everything you need. It was very important to us to have a hard, sandy bottom, shallow water, wade-able shore that very gradually became deeper. We wanted it to be safe for children as well as the elderly. And we made sure that the gentle waves could be heard and the incredible view visible from almost any space. We also tucked away a private, double hammock among the trees, that, although it is just feet from the water, can not be seen. And with three decks you can have your choice of sun or shade to enjoy the peaceful lake. We look forward to sharing Morning Glory Retreat with you.

Perfect for Our Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Morning Glory Retreat was a perfect fit for our family. We utilized all the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, gas grill and living room space. We had a couple of bonfires and got in the water a couple of times (using the rowboat for our 17 month-old grandson in life jacket - he loved it). There was pretty much everything we could ask for within a short distance - restaurants (loved Hofbrau's Sunday brunch!), coffee (Bud's), State Parks, grocery stores, gas, and Interlochen Art Academy was right up the street (beautiful campus). And of course, Traverse City and all the vineyards/breweries were within driving distance.

Most importantly, Claudia and Mike were very responsive to any requests we had and were very interested in our feedback on Morning Glory Retreat. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Cozy and clean getaway on a beautiful lake; perfect for families!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our week-long vacation at this wonderful lake home, and I can't tell you how much we already miss this charming place. Here are some of the things we enjoyed most about this home:

1. The owners: Claudia and Mike are terrific people, and were so gracious and responsive to anything that came up (before or during our stay). Rental property owners can often make or break your overall experience, but Claudia and Mike are definitely some of the best.

2. The house: three stories of bright, clean, and well-appointed spaces. We had two families of four (two adults and two children each) and grandmother to boot, and we never felt cramped or lacking in private space. The East-facing windows bring in so much light that it almost feels like you're sitting outside on the lake. And nearly every window is openable, allowing each room to catch the cool night breeze coming in off the lake.

3. The lake: since we were traveling with four kids (ages 5-9) with varying levels of swimming skills, the sandbar in this lake was a major selling point. If you step in from the shore, you can walk out for 40-50 feet before it gets any deeper than three feet. The kids could jump off the dock and play all day without us worrying about them going too deep. The water is crystal clear, and felt great on those warm July afternoons. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even walk along the sandbar to the public beach at Interlochen State Park, which has a large sandy beach area.

4. The location: the house is tucked away at the very end of a quiet dead-end street. The state park is directly across the street, so you're completely surrounded by beautiful Northern Michigan forest. Interlochen has everything you need (groceries, restaurants, etc), but if you want to get out and explore, both Traverse City and Lake Michigan are short drives away. There are so many cute Northern Michigan towns to see within an hour radius in every direction... and so many wineries and micro-breweries that there's no way you could sample them all in a week.

Bottom line, this is a fantastic home, but especially so if you have young kids and are looking for a private, peaceful lake to enjoy. Claudia and Mike, thank you so much for the hospitality, and we can't wait to visit again.

Charming House on a Lovely Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this house. It has all the charm you could ever want from a lakeside house plus it is clean and fresh and new. The function of the house is fantastic for a family of four or even more. The lake is beautiful. The owners are lovely and gracious. I cannot pay enough compliments to this lovely retreat.

This home and lake were perfect for our family of kids and grandkids!

  • 5 of 5

We are just returning from a week here (4th of July week) and we are already talking about when we can return! The home is beautiful and immaculate, with so much space. There were 9 of us there. The downstairs apartment worked great for our son, his wife and their two little ones. With so many people, it was great to have 3 bathrooms. The views of the lake and the sun shining into the house are amazing. We rented a pontoon boat and we spent a lot of time on the beautiful lake. The lake is great for swimming, especially for younger ones, because it is quite shallow for a ways out. We loved the upper deck and spent a lot of time sitting outside during the day and into the evening. We also took advantage of the fire pit below near the water. We felt like we were "away from it all," yet grocery stores and other conveniences were just 5 minutes away. The house is well stocked and obviously well cared for. The pictures are very accurate. The owners, Claudia and Mike, were such gracious hosts. Claudia was quick to respond to any questions I had as we were planning our week there. Once we were there, we were greeted with a wonderful welcome box of northern Michigan treats. Claudia and Mike welcomed us warmly and responded to any questions we had during our stay. We can't wait to go back!

The perfect house. The perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

IT was such a great week for my whole family. There were many things to do in the area for all the diverse interests, and we could also just walk out the door to take a walk or ride bikes or go into the lake, which is crystal clear and the perfect temperature. Our dog learned to swim, which delighted young and old alike! Some evenings we could hear the orchestra students practicing at the Interlochen Camp, which inspired us to go to the concert on Sunday night. The house provides wonderful views of the lake form almost every room, and the two laundries and the big kitchen make it family friendly and inviting on every level. Claudia and Mike are the best!

Wonderful House on a Beautiful Lake

  • 5 of 5

The house is just perfect with beautiful lake views! There is enough room to fit comfortably in the living area for eating, games, and movies as well as everyone having their own private space. Cooking meals was a pleasure with the fantastic view. We rented kayaks and spent time on Duck Lake every day and enjoyed a bonfire most nights. Unlike most vacation rentals, this house is directly on the water - no long walk or stairs. We look forward to our next visit!
