About the property

Our beautifully decorated 3-story 5 bedroom/4 bath home offers 3 king size beds on the upper floor and 2 queen size beds on the lower floor. There are no bedrooms on the main floor. It sleeps 10 comfortably. Situated on one acre of land, our home is a quiet retreat from the hustle of most tourist destinations. During the winter, the snow blankets the house with quiet beauty, a perfect place for lighting a wood fire in the main living room. Downstairs, the kids can light their own fire (it's gas), watch their own movies (we have a complete library of videos available for use) or entertain themselves with the X-Box 360 (we have X-Box 360 Kinect/DVD games or bring your own).

Our home office is set up for high-speed internet and other office supplies for your disposal.

Our modern kitchen is equipped with granite countertops, a microwave oven, a natural gas stove and a convection oven for quick high altitude cooking. The cabinets are fully stocked with condiments and other non-perishables available for guest use. Make yourself at home.

During the summer, enjoy the fire pit in the back yard while roasting hot dogs and making s'mores. The kids will enjoy the log pole fort and swing set and slide. Oh, and don't forget that, winter or summer, cooking on the outdoor gas grill is always fun.

If you need to catch up on your laundry, feel free to use the front-load washer and dryer in the laundry room conveniently located right between the kitchen and the oversized heated garage.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, I invite you to take a peek at our beautiful home.

About Connie Cenac

Hi, fellow travelers! Dwight and I have been married since 1980 and are blessed to have all 5 children and 8 grandchildren living near us in Jacksonville, Florida (that's on the Atlantic Ocean). We began taking our children skiing in the Colorado Rockies when they were very young, and eventually, we purchased a condo in Vail, Colorado. For 20 years, we made the journey to Vail with family and friends numerous times each year.

Many years ago, we gave up the long lines and crowds of Vail, when we discovered Leadville and family friendly Ski Cooper. It was only a matter of time before we decided to sell our Vail condo and purchase a 'real' house in Leadville. When we found this house, I fell in love with it. We sold our condo in one day and purchased this home in 2006. Since then, it's been a joy to decorate it to make it so unlike Florida and so much Colorado mountain country!

Connie Cenac purchased this house in 2006

Why Connie Cenac chose South Central

When we purchased our home, we were looking for something that would accommodate our large and growing family. With 4 adult married children and grandchildren, we needed a place where couples could find privacy and children could play and make all the noise they wanted to. It was love at first sight. We also wanted a garage that would hold our two vehicles (one is kept in Denver while we are away). Our garage is heated, so you never have to make a treck outside in the snow just to get into your car.

What makes this house unique

The two living areas offer privacy for adult couples or for large families to enjoy each other.

Our home is close to town and convenient for running out for groceries and other necessities; yet, it's location sets the ambiance of mountain living at its best. It is not uncommon to see deer feeding in the back yard during the summer or foxes darting across the road. Drive down the road a piece, and you may see herds of big horn sheep, antelope, elk, white tail deer and mule deer grazing in the meadows. You might even see a porcupine climb a tree or a moose grazing on the shore of a lake.

There is so much to see and do here: downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, ice skating, sledding, tubing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling in the winter. Don't forget the Crystal Carnival in Leadville, where you can watch the skijoring and dog sled races!

During the summer months, take the Leadville train up the mountain, conquer the biking trail, hike to the summit of Mt. Elbert or Mt. Massive, go on a back country trail ride by horse, jeep or ATV (4-wheeler), go white water rafting, or explore the mines of Leadville, the famous Tabor Opera House, the Colorado Mining Museum, and other deserted mining towns like Tin Cup and St. Elmo. Try out the heated swimming pools and hot springs at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort. So much to do and so little time. You can always make the incredibly beautiful drive to Vail, if you still have time. Don't forget Boom Days, where you can enjoy the famous burro races and parade down the center of town in your own turn-of-the-century costume. Leadville in summer is paradise.

Welcoming, Family Friendly, Comfortable/Roomy, Quiet area, Between Leadville and the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Cenac Cabin is a welcoming home just outside of Leadville's downtown area. It's spacious and well appointed with Lodge/ Mountain furnishings, a large comfortable living room and a well supplied kitchen, great if you have multiple chefs in your vacation party, a large family room downstairs, and 5 comfortable bedrooms each complete with queen or king beds. After Hiking and rafting for a week the laundry room was a blessing. We played card games most nights at the dining/kitchen table which sits 8 adults comfortably with a counter seating space parallel to the table allowing 4 additional persons to be seated. For those in our family who were not interested in playing games the downstairs allowed for a retreat. The gas grill on the deck was a great option for the Barbecuers in our party. We would recommend Cenac Cabin for a Family vacation, Family reunion, or a week of RnR or Hiking/Biking/Rafting/Fishing for 3-5 couples. The location allows you to enjoy; a great cup of coffee at the City on the Hill Coffee shop, Meals at Tennessee Pass Cafe, a beer at Pb brewery, Hiking, Biking, Fishing, or Rafting at multiple sites or - the opportunity to just sit back, breath in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the beautiful scenery the Leadville area has to offer.

Great house near Leadville

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed this house. The decor is fantastic, giving a definite mountain feel to the experience. Kudos to the interior decorator, where did you find all of that stuff ! Every light fixture, table, or any kind of a fixture was custom made. There are multiple dear heads, a mountain lion, antlers and little bears everywhere. It took our little ones just a while to get used to, then they wanted to feed the animals. The house is in a quite neighborhood outside of town a little. The house was well equipped and perfect for a large group like ours. We had one little problem and Connie called out the helpers, who came in like gangbusters to fix the problem within a few hours. I'd like to stay here again.

We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children ages 12. The house was perfect. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable and well stocked kitchen with

everything needed to prepare meals. The fire pit was great for sitting around at night. The mountains around Leadville were some of the most

beautiful in Colorado and there were plenty of trails for us to ride our side by sides on. The Mining Hall of Fame and Museum in Leadville was very

educational and we would highly recommend it. I had the opportunity to have a few conversations by phone with Connie Cenac and she was so helpful

in answering questions and so very gracious. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
