Getaway from the big city and relax at this private cabin retreat
We call this beautiful cabin retreat "Sunset Shores" because the sunsets are incredible from the deck of this cabin. The cabin is located several miles south of Hayward on 3,000 acre Lake Grindstone and faces due west.
Lake Grindstone is one of the Hayward areas premier lakes lake and is known for it's crystal clear water, sandy bottom and excellent fishing and skiing and swimming opportunities. This private cabin is situated on a deep wooded lot off the road.
The cabin layout-
It is a 3 BR, 2 bath home with a nice lakeside deck. There is one bedroom on main level which is a king. There is a queen bedroom on the lower level and a second BR has matching 2 sets bunk beds (full size) with foosball table, and a queen size futon. There is a baby crib on site too! Sleeps 6 and total square footage is 1600 square feet. There is a full bath on each level.
You have an outdoor fire pit right next to the lake! You have central A/C, a nice lakeside screen porch, attached deck, and free use of canoe and bikes.
Bring your own boat or rent one on the lake-
There is a long private dock for your boat as well as a lift for you to use during your stay with us.

About Kelli Cox
This is our private vacation home that we have decided to let other families use on occasion. Please take good care of our lake home.
Kelli Cox purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Kelli Cox chose Round Lake
We bought this property as a private family retreat but our kids are so busy with activities these days we've decided to let other families get away and enjoy our cabin for the next few years. We hope you will stay with us and if you do we are confident you will make some great memories just like our family has over the years.
What makes this Cabin unique
The open floor plan and private setting of this cabin lends it self well to family getaways. The Hayward area also offers great activities for kids and adults alike. No matter the season there is lots to do in this area. Restaurant and activity recommendations are provided with your rental.

Clean, well stocked kitchen, showers were great, furnishings were comfortable.
Girls weekend and we had a blast. The pictures don’t do this place justice. We had everything we needed right down to the wiener forks for the fire pit. The furniture was comfortable with plenty of room for us to gather at the table or in the living room. The view is spectacular!
Peaceful & nice
Went for a girls weekend in the fall. Cabin was nice. Management company was very nice. Fire place indoors and three seasons porch were amazing for our needs.
Great cabin! Would rent again!
Great cabin and location! Lake is nice
and clean. Cabin was clean with everything you need for a stay (including full stocked kitchen). We loved the screened in patio for rainy days. The dock had a nice lift for a boat. We also enjoyed the evenings around a fire pit. Overall great cabin and we would definitely rent again in the future.
Overall nice place to stay
It was a little tricky to find at first because we were looking for the fire number but it was grouped with the other houses on the road. There are two other homes nearby that are relatively close (but luckily for us no one was in either one of them during our stay). When we walked in there were dirty towels on the floor of the bathroom and one of the beds wasn't made, but with the laundry on-site we just washed everything up and took care of it. The interior of the cabin was all wood beams and stone, which was exactly the type of place we were looking for. It had a nice deck and a screen porch off of it, and a good space for a fire. Having the use of the canoe, kayak and peddle board was a really great bonus, and my kids LOVED that part. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and the bedrooms were very comfortable (much better than some hotels we've stayed in). There was a pontoon docked by the house but we didn't have use of it, so it was kind of a bummer to have it there since it was right in front of the bench where you would watch the sunset; however, with some adjusting we had an amazing view. I think my favorite part was the wood stove in the living room; we built a cozy fire and chilled on the couch as a family on one of the rainy days. My kids have already asked when we were coming back and I genuinely don't remember the last time I was so relaxed.
Thanks for the feedback and we apologize about the towels. We had a little scheduling mix up with our new cleaning crew. We've implemented a new system to ensure this won't happen again. We would love to have you back to visit us again soon.

If only they would...
I didn't write this last year, but better late than never. First let me start by saying this property is beautiful. The sunsets are beyond compare. Also, the place was indeed clean on the inside. However, there were quite a few miscues that need to be addressed. The canoe and bicycles at our disposal were in the garage covered in spider webs. There are no tie downs on the dock for boats, only a rickety lift in desperate need of servicing (count on taking 10 minutes or more to secure your boat). The property manager was completely impersonal, and didn't even bother to meet us during our stay. There were a few issues our first night and a couple more issues later in the week, and even though he did call me back as soon as possible, he presented no real solutions to any of my concerns. He also made the worst mistake in sales (and yes, as a property manager you are selling a service), which is not bothering to follow up later to say thank you for the business, and see what he could do to get me back the next year. A phone call to your guests after the stay also goes quite a long way. Needless to say, even though we plan on many more Hayward vacations, we will not be dealing with this property management company in the future.
Thank you very much for the feedback. To start with the management has changed. We are new to this and as an owner I am now managing the cabin myself. The pontoon lift has been replaced , and tie outs will be added to the dock and I will try to make sure that the canoe and the bikes will be "dewebbed". In the woods it can be challenging with the spiders but an effort should be made. We would love to have you stay again, please contact me if you have any questions! Kelli
Perfect location, lake, home and outdoor environment!
We have stayed in several Hayward area cabins the past few years and Sunset Shores was clearly our favorite. The sunsets, amenities, outdoor environment, updated and beautiful home with space for all was a real treat. You literally won't find a place with better view of sunsets. The lake was fabulous: clean, shallow for kids even past the dock. The home seemed recently updated and is very comfortable with plenty of space. I agree with other reviewer, the previous management company was rude and impersonal. However, this family found left-behind stuff animals from my kids and went to the trouble to contact us, and package them and send them. Given the tears shed over these stuffed animals, that meant a lot. This is THE place we'd like to keep coming back to for years. You will, too!
Thank you very much. We are so glad that you love the place as much as we do. To gives us so much joys to be able to share it with other family making great memories.
Northwest Wisconsin and the Hayward area is a favorite recreation with hundreds of freshwater lakes, national forests, golf courses, and cross-country and snowmobile trails.
