About Jennifer Wales
Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993. Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline. In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal. Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services. Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Amazing views - spacious home
The views are fantastic!
Amazing location, lovely views, close to town. Well appointed spacious home with cottage charm.
We loved our stay at Eagle Cliff. Seclusion with easy access to Bar Harbor and Acadia with views!
This wonderful, historic property was perfect for our Acadia family vacation. While the house is a bit worn and creaky, it has a lot of character and had all of the amenities we needed including a well appointed kitchen. The views from the deck are amazing and we saw deer and/or wild turkey every day. We were able to access Acadia without fighting Bar Harbor traffic and yet the Bar Harbor shops and restaraunts are just minutes away. It was a short hike from the house past the historic Dorr cottage ruins to the cove that we always had to ourselves. This quiet, private property has fantastic views of the porcupine islands with close proximity to Bar Harbor and easy access to Acadia. Thank you for all the memories we made on our Acadia/Bar Harbor vacation.
Incredible Property with Incredible Views
We stayed in this beautiful property for a week in July, 2016. As mentioned by other reviewers, the pictures do not do the property justice - it's even more beautiful in person.
I've been vacationing in Bar Harbor with my family for most of my life and we typically stay in one of the nicest hotels in town. This trip we were bringing our toddler and wanted a house to help control his meals (he has food allergies). The house, itself, is incredibly spacious. Plenty of room for our little guy to run around. The dining room and adjoining deck have one of the nicest views I've ever seen. We took advantage from morning coffee right through grilling in the evening. Which brings me to the kitchen - it is supremely well stocked and has everything a foodie or chef would need. It made preparing meals on vacation fun.
As for the location, it's perfect and centrally located. In one direction, you can walk to town in 20 minutes on a paved sidewalk; and in the other direction, you can walk to bigger trail heads in 15 minutes. Within the neighborhood itself, you have wonderful privacy, but can also walk to Compass Harbor in less than 10 minutes, which is a beautiful area of the park.
In short, the property was everything we hoped for and more.
As for working with Jennifer, the caretaker, she made everything easy. As an example, we opted to travel relatively light and had Jennifer provide a box of toys for our son to play with during the week. They were age appropriate and a home run in his eyes. She was helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
We look forward to returning again soon!
Great location and views
We stayed at Eagle Cliff the week of 4th of July. There were 8 of us in the house (6 adults and 2 teens). The house is in a great location. We rented bikes for the week and rode them into downtown Bar Harbor each day (which was great because parking is hard to come by). The house sits high above Frenchman's Bay and has lovely views from the patio, dining room and master bedroom. The house itself is in need of some updating, but overall it is nice. The master bedroom is very spacious and has a huge bathroom. The second bedroom upstairs with a double bed was large enough, but there was only a double bed in the room. It would be nice to have a larger bed, since many couples are used to queen and king beds these days. The shared bathroom upstairs was very small and the shower has a sloping roof, so watch your head! My teenage sons shared the third upstairs bedroom that has 2 twin beds. The room is very small, but adequate. Again, some updating would be nice (80's wallpaper and red carpet). The only bedroom that I would give a negative comment about is the downstairs bedroom. It is very small and dark. The kitchen had plenty of cabinet space and a nice table. However, the stove is an old 4 burner electric that proved to be difficult to cook on for 8 people. 3 of the nights we were there, we cooked lobster. It was a challenge to get both large pots on the old stove! Again, some updating is needed but the stove and oven functioned. The patio had great views of the bay, and we often saw deer, fox and other wildlife outside. The patio furniture is inadequate for the house. We left suggestions for the owners to add additional seating and make the outside more usable (since that is where you will want to be when the weather is nice). One thing we experienced this trip which was different from last year was the mosquitoes. Maybe it is because the house is in a wooded area, but the bugs were brutal. I strongly suggest bringing bug spray! Overall, Eagle Cliff was a nice house. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Bar Harbor, and look forward to our next visit.
The location of this house is perfect. At the end of a small private road through Acadia National Park, Eagle Cliff is only one mile from Bar Harbor where you can access a free shuttle bus that travels around greater Mount Desert Island and through Acadia National Park. The main auto entrance to Acadia National Park is only two miles away where you can drive or bike the famous Park Loop Rd and all its attractions. The Park’s newest trail, built in 2008, allows one to literally walk from the house into the 130-mile network of hiking trails, bike to the 45 miles of Carriage Roads, or simply stroll into town for an ice cream cone. Compass Cove, a little known parcel of Acadia National Park, is just a 5 min walk to a secluded and well-protected sand beach and tide pools. This area is a wonderful place to explore with kids, or have a quiet sun-drenched beach all to your self. A special property sure to please even the most discerning tastes with the perfect blend of quiet and accessibility, historic charm and modern comfort.
