About the property

3br/3ba Mountain View Directly on River for Fishing, Hiking and Relaxing

If you want to stay at a beautiful house that replaces the constant sound of your television, cell phone and wasteful time on the internet with the soothing sound of a river, chirping birds and wind rustling through the trees than this is the place for you. Get away from the daily grind and immerse yourself in nature. This is an unplugged vacation: no internet, no cable television but there are 200 DVDs, and limited cell phone coverage. There is an Internet cafe 15 min away in Cashiers.

The 'The River House' property is located on the Western North Carolina fly fishing trail (west fork Tuckasegee River) and sits on 12.5 acres. The property is about 10 minutes from Lake Glenville and 15 minutes from downtown Cashiers. Also close to Sylva, Highlands, Waynesville, Franklin and Asheville. This is an outstanding property offering fly-fishermen, naturalist, hiker and adventurist the ultimate experience.

This Moss Creek designed log home, 2BR/2BA home, is now complete and looks amazing. No expense was spared in creating a luxurious log cabin with marble counter tops, stainless steel appliances, antique wood floors, claw-footed bath tubs for each bathroom, 3 fireplaces and many carpentry details that can only be explained by visiting the property. This property is exceptional in every way. Some of the materials used in the construction include: antique logs, bricks, dry stacked stone, reclaimed wood & barn wood timbers.

The property also includes a 1BR/1BA guest house that overlooks the pond and the length of the river. Both houses show great attention to detail. This property is breathtaking and offers a completely relaxing experience. You can sit on the back porch and watch the river rush by, fish from the banks or wade into the river that is only a few steps away. There are also many miles of hiking trails directly adjacent to the property that follow the river or uphill toward the top of the mountain. The interior of this home was designed by CJ Brownhouse and has everything you need except the food.

The river house is located directly on the fly fishing trail along the Tuckasegee River. The fly fishing trail begins in Western North Carolina and provides a suitable habitat for trout.

Other amenities include a large pavilion with Jenn-air grill and open air fireplace. All buildings are located directly on the river and provide unprecedented views of the river.

Perfect River Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Being an architect and growing up summering in Colorado at the family cabin, this was the perfect getaway for us. The cabin is quaint and cozy , but is also thoughtfully appointed and beautifully designed. The setting can't be beat for privacy and for getting away from it all. With no cell phone signals, no wi-fi and no cable, we spent our days hiking and playing in the river with our dog Jez, and our evenings doing puzzles by the fire and playing darts on the porch. Wonderful stay, we recommend to anyone wanting to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature. One recommendation: to hike to High Falls access via the lower (North) trail head along 107. The trailhead adjacent the lake is an extremely steep hike straight down and the north trail head is much flatter (though a bit longer). Thank you Dax for sharing this beautiful place with us.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Overall a great cabin, beautiful setting you could not ask for anything nicer. The reclaimed wood was stunning and gave it a really nice rustic chic vibe. Furnished nicely and tastefully. Guest house is amazing, might stay in there next time. Only some small fine tuning to be done to make this place remarkable. The pillows on the master bedroom bed definitely need to be updated, and the mattress also. It is a little tricky trying to figure out all the light switches. The kitchen is well supplied and the countertops are beautiful. Screens on the French doors would be great so you could leave them open to hear the stream without being inundated with bugs. The last thing is no cell phone or internet reception, I know a lot of people love that(especially parents) but I like to find out things about the area and Google activities to help plan my day. Overall this is a wonderful peaceful, beautiful cabin that I would definitely stay at again. Recommended

Owner's Response: I apologize for the bed in the master bedroom. I have a new bed in order and it will be replaced next week.

See the picture? That's the cottage! Look at the stonework. Everything there is just so romantic.

Secluded, beautiful nature retreat. Fishing was poor but lots of fingerlings and should be great by Fall. I applaud the escape from WiFi; I actually got to spend time with my kids who admittedly hated that. But they played the abundant games with each other and we spent good family time the olde fashioned way. The morning, wow! Wake to the river gushing and view the perfect perfect rose bush from the throne! So very peaceful. I really felt like I'd stepped into a Thomas Kinkade painting. All of Dax' work was first rate but especially the stonework. Wild flowers, butterflies and birds galore. WalMart, a library and the Great Smoky's all so very close by. I found a small waterfall upstream and sat under it and slid down the rock into the icy pool below like I was a boy again! My collies ranged freely, now how many places can you let your dogs just be dogs?

Frog chorus

Loved the place. Log construction and stonework make it a truly wonderful place to stay. The frogs at night did a super job of singing us to sleep. Seeing a bear with her two cubs nearby added to the fun.

Perfect setting: idyllic cabin, beautiful stream

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully appointed cabin nestled in the mountains by a stream. Just far enough away from town to feel remote, but close enough to enjoy some shopping and purchase supplies.

The cabin was clean and comfortable. It had everything you could want. Perfect place to unplug from the internet and reconnect with nature.

Dax was a great host.

A perfect place!

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing cabin right on a rushing stream. We have rented many places over the years, but have never found a place as perfect as this! If I were to criticize anything it would only be that the master bedroom mattress was a bit uncomfortable. After a couple of difficult nights we adjusted to it. Be advised if you rent here you should be sure you bring things like extra toilet paper, foil, plastic wrap and containers for left overs, as none of those things were there. Also, besides salt and pepper there aren't any kitchen staples here. Not a problem for us as I travel with spices and other kitchen essentials, but you will want to stop and get things on your way in if you want them. We were so happy that there was a charcoal grill there, but you will probably need some charcoal...we left ours behind for the next guest as someone had done for us. The Ingles in Cashiers was great for groceries, and just down a short way from the cabin is a little Mexican food store with a Taco Truck selling freshly made Mexican food which is truly authentic, and truly delicious! We had a really fantastic 10 day stay here, and hope to return again!
