Komara Kottage is located on the South Sound's beautiful Eld Inlet with a breath-taking view of the Sound and Dana Passage.

Nestled between tall evergreens, Komara Kottage offers a quiet, private and serene location for daily living. The beautiful waters of Eld Inlet can be seen from both the kitchen and bedroom of the cottage. Beach access and lounging on the bulkhead landing provides you with an even greater, more expansive, view of Eld Inlet and Dana Passage as well as Mt Rainier.

Komara Kottage offers the best in comfort. The queen-size bed is outfitted with a pillow-top mattress and fine linens. And bath towels are 100% cotton. And as a special touch, homemade hand/body soap is provided. An extended surface area is available near the front door which makes for a great space to recharge all your electronics (plenty of electrical outlets) or set your keys, bags, purses, etc.

In the kitchen, enjoy all the comforts of home. Silverware, dishes and flatware are provided as well as pots and pans. There’s a microwave, toaster and a Keurig Coffee Maker. Your morning coffee is included with your stay. Please feel free to bring your favorite K-Cups from home. Tea & hot cocoa are also provided. And always enjoy fresh, clean drinking water with Reverse Osmosis-filtered water.

Cleanliness is a priority for us. When you enter the cottage, not only will the cottage look clean, our goal is to ensure it is clean. All touch surfaces (door handles, locks, light switches, drawer pulls, thermostat dials, remote controls and all other touch surface areas) are disinfected before each new arrival. All the furniture is wiped down, wood surfaces and window blinds are dusted, and the floors and carpets are vacuumed thoroughly and all rugs are either washed or steam-cleaned on a regular basis. And last but not least, the bathroom is kept thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Enjoy walking along the beach or digging fresh clams. Just be sure to check with the Washington State Department of Health for Red Tide in the area prior to clam-digging.

Frye Cove Park is just minutes away by car and/or boat. The park has several nice trails for hiking as well as a picnic area and play area for children.

The Olympia Farmer’s Market is a great place for fresh produce & plants. The market is open 10am – 3pm, April-October, Thurs-Sun, and Nov-Dec, Sat & Sun and is located in downtown Olympia.

Go to a movie, enjoy live theater (schedule-specific), or eat out to enjoy Olympia’s cuisine, the Westside of Olympia is just 20 minutes away and downtown is only 25 minutes away. And the popular Little Creek Casino is just eleven miles down the road.

Komara Kottage is the perfect Olympia location when planning side trips to Washington’s coastline or the Olympic Peninsula. Notable attractions along Hwy 101 include the Olympic Rain Forest, Lake Quinault, Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Hurricane Ridge and the ferry to Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Owner-occupied residence is right next door (50 ft away). Should you have any questions or concerns, or if there is something you may need, we are easily reachable.

We absolutely love it here and never take for granted the beauty of the Pacific NW. We hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we do.

Owners Note: The intended purpose for Komara Kottage is a vacation rental. It is designed for travelers who reside more than 100 miles from the Olympia area who are visiting the area for vacation purposes. Any other intended purpose will not be considered. Owners reserve the right to refuse to reserve/rent Komara Kottage to any persons for any reason.

Keep in mind that last-minute reservations are not always possible. Please allow at least 3-4 days notice to ensure the likelihood of availability.

About Kathleen Shimshock-Lyons

Steve is a native of Washington and I, Kathleen, have lived here since 1987 and we both absolutely love the Pacific Northwest. As his grandpa would often say, 'this is God's country.' Living on the Puget Sound is truly a blessing and we are both so grateful for the privilege of caring for 'our little corner of the world.' We are often inspired and in awe of the scenery and wildlife and truly enjoy sharing it with others.

However, if it's city life you crave, downtown Olympia is only 25 minutes away. And the entertainment of Little Creek Casino is just 11 miles down the road.

From the moment you pull in the driveway, you will feel yourself beginning to breathe a little easier. The view of the water just seems to calm the senses. And unlike many other beach front locations, this property is very private and very quiet. And as you enter your 'home away from home,' the warmth and feel of the cottage is very inviting. And with a short walk to the water, spending time outside enjoying the view and wildlife and simply breathing in the fresh country air, is the perfect way to rejuvenate oneself.

Perfectly Named - Cozy Getaway for Two!!

We spent 1 week at the cottage for a family reunion. It was everything you could ask for in a cottage rental. Kathleen was extremely accommodating in providing access into the cottage, be it that we came in via Seattle airport at commuter rush time and did not have an exact ETA. We met both she and her husband who are personable and provided complete information on cottage, the inlet and area sites. The cottage is immaculate and was fully equipped. The grounds are well kept. Will definitely keep this site in mind for our next visit.

Beautiful Setting and Immaculate Property and Great Hosts!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at this beautiful property. The cottage was very well appointed and comfortable. The property is beautifully kept and looks out onto the picturesque Eld Inlet, far from the hustle and bustle of city life and did I mention how quiet it was? It was and we loved it! We were graced with beautiful weather and calm waters.

Great attractions were close by and close by being defined as Texas close :) Waterfalls within 60 miles up the beautiful 101(Brinnon area and Duckabush Recreation area). We were able to enjoy the Murhut Falls which required a short 8/10 of mile hike into the beautiful forest. All you'll hear is your breathing as you work your way to the falls which will be well worth it! We also enjoyed the Rocky Brook Falls in the same area, only a few miles apart. This was a much shorter walk to access but just as enjoyable.

A little further up the 101, we enjoyed a great whale watching tour in Port Angeles. The humpbacks were just amazing!

Closer to "home", we enjoyed spending some time in Olympia, walking around the downtown area and enjoying the Capital Lake Fair. Great food and atmosphere with a very relaxed vibe.

Kathleen and Steve were friendly and gracious hosts, providing plenty of privacy but providing assistance if needed.

Glad you enjoyed the Pepe's Tamales :)

One thing I really like about our location is that it’s a great place to ‘hang your hat’ for travelers wanting to be in the Olympia area, but yet plan to make day trips in and around the Olympic Peninsula. We are also pleased to hear that you both enjoyed your time here at the cottage. We do our best to make sure the cottage is at least a close 2nd to being in one's own home. Steve and I really enjoyed meeting you both and I will be forever grateful for your willingness and your generosity in bringing me Pepe’s Tamales! They were so good. I did end up sharing them with my brothers and sister and they loved them. It was nice to have a taste of home! I’ll never forget it. Thank you so much!

Exactly as advertised. Clean, modern, private and comfortable.

Small, private waterfront property with the owner's home in front overlooking the sea and a1 bedroom guesthouse behind. The property is very nicely landscaped . Guests can access the beach. The hostesses is committed to providing a quality product. We had a great stay and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Perfect little piece of the Great North West

Our wonderful stay began even before our arrival. The communication between Kathleen and myself was very helpful in planning our visit. Once my husband and I arrived it was more than expected. The cottage is extremely comfortable and was just right for the two of us. The linens and bedding are luxurious and the homey accents are lovely. Kathleen and Steve are wonderful hosts and made our stay one to remember. We have family in the area and hopefully we will have an opportunity to stay at the cottage again!

Bald eagles nest nearby and can often be seen flying from tree-top to tree-top. Ducks and seagulls are plentiful and are often feeding on the fresh clams.

Clam digging is available year-round. However, it is always important to check with the State for areas of the Sound that might not be safe for clamming.

Off the beaten path, Komara Kottage is as great place to get away and relax. It is highly suited for artists who enjoying painting or writing music who often find inspiration in solitude.

$100.00 deposit at time of reservation to reserve requested dates(s). Payment required in full 2 weeks prior to reservation date. No refunds if cancelled 14 days before reservation date.

* Cleaning Fee: Cleaning Fee is 100% refundable as long as the cottage does not require more than a general cleaning after your stay. Please see details below for what constitutes more than a general cleaning.

It is expected that you leave the cottage clean & tidy after your stay. If the cottage requires more than a general cleaning after your stay, your cleaning fee of $50.00 will not be refunded. Examples of cleaning that falls outside of a general cleaning include, but are not limited to: stained sheets or linens that require extra soaking or replacement (if replacement is required, see below), if something spills over onto the bottom of the oven and requires oven cleaner to remove, stained rugs or carpet that require steam-cleaning, perfumes or aerosols that are sprayed onto linens or walls that require extra washing/dry cleaning or cleaning of walls.

Any items from the cottage that will not come clean after your stay and therefore need to be replaced, will be fall under the parameters of the Damage Deposit. Damaged items will be replaced at the current replacement cost. Replacement cost is defined as the cost required to purchase the same or equivalent item today. Replacement cost is not based on replacement cost, less depreciation.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
