Nice little cabin

  • 4 of 5

A nice little riverside cabin. Clean and well maintained. Our family of 4 (with kids) enjoyed the fire pit, playing in the open yard, and paddling the jon boat along the river. The kitchen was well stocked and beds were comfortable. Ashby (the owner) was very accommodating and willing to help. My only complaint is that the cabin's front door is 15 feet from the 55mph road and during the night I heard every vehicle go by. Overall, we will revisit in the future.

Owner's Response: Absolutely correct, the road traffic is a problem, especially in summer and with all the work going on because of the flooding in WV. I may be able to relocate the main bed further from the front of cabin. Very fair review....hope these folks come back...they are due a discount for leaving the cabin so very clean (plus I loved their kids) Ashby

Labor Day Getaway

The cottage was very well kept and equipped with all that you would need. The owner had all the local travel information and attractions you could ask for. The river right at your back door with great fishing. I highly recommend this cottage for your next getaway. We will be back.

honeymoon heaven

  • 5 of 5

One of the best times we have ever had on vacation. The owner is very informative about local culture and history, and seems like every one knows him which is a plus when away from home. I highly recommend this hide-away for anyone and plan to go back next year.

Relaxing Getaway in WV

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was spotless and well kept. It was very relaxing to sit on the porch and read, listening to the birds, or having a fire and watching the flames dance while eating a s'more. Ashby had local travel info if you needed ideas.

We saw the New River Gorge Bridge, Beartown State Park, Smooth Ambler Distillery, and the Exhibition Coal Mine. The history buff in me enjoyed finding out that John Henry was a real person, and that the legend began just a few miles down the road in Talcott, where there is a statue by the Great Bend Tunnel.

If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely come back. Highly recommend staying at the Cottage on Greenbriar River!

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

  • 5 of 5

We were not sure how the house was going to be , as we had not seen it before. As it turned out, it was perfect. Such a nice and gracious host had provided everything and then some. Pictures don't do it justice. Wonderful atmosphere in the house or outside as well. Fishing was great! We hope to make more trips in the future to this wonderful place. If you just want to get away and sit on the screened in porch and swing, this is the place for you. Not suitable for young children. Too many steps.

Within 1 mile of the camp you have The Greenbrier Academy and a Sunday Flea Market. At the Flea Market grounds, there is competition fishing (in season). There is a nice golf course 8 miles from the camp, and back roads for biking if you wish to ride or walk.

The Alderson 4th of July Celebration (biggest in the state) is 8 miles from the camp. The Annual John Henry Days Celebration (second weekend in July) is a 4 mile drive from the camp. In October, there is a 2 weekend Train Days Celebration 15 miles from the camp.

Within a 1 hour drive is a Railroad museum, Exhibition Coal Mine, Tamarak, Youth Museum, The Greenbrier Hotel, and more.

Within a 2 hour drive, there is White Water Rafting (including the Gauley in season), Skiing, Cass Railroad, and more.
