About Lee Gruber
I grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York and after college and a stint in the Peace Corps, I raised a family and developed a business on the west coast of Florida, then moved west to Silver City, New Mexico in 1993 and have lived here ever since.
Lee Gruber purchased this House in 2005
Why Lee Gruber chose Silver City
Silver City is a fabulous community to live in. It is active, embracing and multi-cultural, as reflected in this house, located at the base of the Chihuaha Hill neighborhood, whose original residents were from Mexico. The original part of the house is adobe and was built in 1886.
What makes this House unique
The house is unique in its interior charm. The use of warm colors reflects the sunny, bright climate. The house is cozy and comfortable; a place where you feel at home.

Great location, great house
Lee's house was the perfect size for two people and was in a perfect location, within walking distance of historic downtown. Lee was very friendly and easy to work with. Made our three month stay in Silver City very enjoyable.
Wonderful time and wonderful house.
My husband and I wanted to get away from the cold winter months of Michigan. Without knowing anything about New Mexico, much less Silver City, we rented the house for 2 months. We were very pleased with the house and Silver City. The house is charming and comfortable. We loved being able to walk to town and the surrounding area is a motorcyclist’s dream. There are so many good restaurants and interesting shops to visit. We made new friends and memories. Lee is very kind and available for any questions you may have. We hope to be back!
Thank you for your kind words and for caring for the house as well as you did. I truly appreciate all and look forward to your return. Lee
Wonderful location, wonderful home
When I decided to come to Silver City for a month, I wanted a place that had walkability to downtown. This location has that. The house is comfortable, well equipped with all the essentials, and lovely.....The neighborhood is a mixture of cultural sensibilities.
The art and historic district of this small town are all close, and several restaurants as well.
A very rewarding visit....
Wonderful to have Lucinda in the rental and to know that it suited her so well. She left a graceful mark upon the house.
Quaint little house walking distance to downtown
I stayed here for a 3 month working assignment in Silver City.
This place is absolutely adorable! The bed is a king size and so soft. The hot water works well and the owner is very nice and reasonable. She returns calls quickly and addresses any situation immediately. She was a pleasure to work with.
The area is your average middle class neighborhood and the neighbors are friendly. There are TONS of Ma&Pa shops all over downtown.
You should know that this property sits in an area of town that is low to the ground so you will most likely see either on the property or in the neighborhood a variety of little wildlife.
I absolutely lucked out when I found this place and I would definitely rent here again!
Silver City/Grant County is the gateway to the Gila National Forest and Aldo Leopold Wilderness, affording many opportunities to hike and enjoy the high desert scenery. Boston Hill , several hundred acres of open space with beautiful trails, is located right in Silver City, and one of the trail heads is just a few blocks away. The Gila Cliff Dwellings, the Cat Walk and the City of Rocks are within driving distance. Biking, hiking and bird watching are at your fingertips and add to outdoor adventures.
