Located in the center of the village, it's a short walk to anywhere on the island. The Mimosa Cottage comes complete with towels and linens, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, coffee maker and microwave, washer and dryer, Dish, free long distance phone service, and wi-fi. Formal dining room and eat-in kitchen.
Minutes walk to a mile long public beach where you can swim, picnic, see wide open views of Tangier Sound and the Chesapeake Bay and watch unobstructed sunsets.
The public beach is located at the Southern tip of the island, a 1 mile + long strip of white sand, perfect for swimming, surf fishing, beachcombing for arrowheads and other treasures, birding, or just enjoying perfect sunrises and sunsets.
I grew up on the island and graduated from Tangier Combined School in a class of 12. After college (JMU), I moved to the Northern Neck of Virginia but have remained in touch with my roots. Whenever the Mimosa isn't rented, I can usually be found there, either doing maintenance, repairs or upgrades. And, sometimes I just go and do nothing but have fun.
Dan Eskridge purchased this cottage in 2008
I needed a connection with my island family so when the home came on the market, I felt compelled to buy it. The central location and being off of the main drag made it attractive to me as a former islander. As a real estate agent, I went over to preview it and fell in love. Since buying it, I've replaced the roof, installed a heat pump, all new plumbing (Pex) and other upgrades. Oh, there is a guitar in the master BR closet, in case anyone is interested.
Besides the perfect location, central heat, ac, Dish, wi-fi, long distance phone service, the house is fully equipped with towels and linens, dishwasher, W/D, blender, PakNPlay, beach toys, crab nets and whatever guests sometimes leave behind. Basically, the house has everything that you need to set up housekeeping except toiletries, insect repellent (just in case) and food. The large living room and dining room allow elbow room. The two mimosa trees just off the front deck make it a cool and shady spot in summer. I enjoy sitting on the back steps and watching the beautiful sunsets, aircraft landing and taking off and, on clear days, the western shoreline of the Chesapeake is visible across the bay, beyond the homes on West Ridge. All and all, I love my island home and hope you will, too.
Tangier Island is located 12 miles from the mainland in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. The island has 2 churches, 1 grocery store, several restaurants, gift shops, Tangier History Museum with free kayak rentals, a pristine sandy beach at southern end of the island, golf cart and bike rentals. The island is NOT car friendly.
