Overview

About the property

Sleeps 1-4, Historic District Location, centrally located with eclectic decor.

Charming Ocracoke Island 1930's home completely restored in 2010...well, not quite. But our procrastination is your reward! Enjoy this 1 bedroom reverse floor plan home for a reduced rate. All rental income will help us finish our restoration project. All the important updates to keep you comfortable have been completed. What's missing? The window & baseboard trim, and screening in the outside deck. Everything else is up and running smoothly including new central heat & air, plumbing, electricity and heat pump. Our cottage has been lovingly restored by a master historic preservation craftsman and decorated to reflect the original colors with a bit of eccentricity, art work and lots of stained glass mixed in. You will find this a relaxing and calming environment.

Our cottage is located across from Silver Lake, at the junction of Fig Tree Lane and Howard Street. Located in the heart of town, the cottage is well insulated and far enough back from the street to feel removed from the hustle and bustle of the village traffic. The rental space is located behind and above the Ocracoke Restoration shop (open 10 - 6), a small boutique selling vintage jewelry and antique stained glass.

This property has a private back entrance and off-road parking, an outside deck, mud room with washer and dryer, a full-sized bathroom and kitchen with all the amenities to heat up left-overs or to create a gourmet meal! There is a cozy TV room downstairs and a full sized living room with two sofa beds and a bedroom with an amazingly comfortable queen sized bed upstairs, with plenty of storage space and a selection of books and games. The upstairs windows offer an excellent spot for bird watching among the live oaks.

This is an excellent low cost opportunity to experience the magic in the heart of Ocracoke village.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Tom and Carol, We are writing to thank you for a lovely stay at your cottage in the days before Christmas. What a charming place in a great location! We were so pleased with your attention to detail and your artistic sense of organizing and decorating. Loved it. The mattresses on the couch pull outs were fine for our daughter, but a bit uncomfortable for grown ups - please take thus as helpful feedback rather than a complaint. We loved our stay and will certainly look you up next time.

Comfortable, cheerful , clean and friendly.

Carol and Tom were friendly hosts and also welcomed our dog! Good location within walking distance of shops and restaurants but also quiet and private. Sunny deck, off the mud room, was a great spot for morning coffee. Great air conditioning! Had a wonderful stay.

Adorable, fun and affordable

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this cottage! The listing was accurate in every way and the cottage clean and well maintained. We loved how Carol provided all the information we needed and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage decor was wonderful and so artistic. All those little touches that make a place special were there. We particularly liked the upstairs sitting room where we could catch up on our reading and writing. The kitchen and bath are adorable, and it was a lot of fun to eat meals in the kitchen which had all the amenities. The bed was very comfortable. We loved the proximity to everything, just a short walk to Silver Lake and all the restaurants and shops of the historic section. We were there in February so there were few other tourists. Thus, most shops were closed, but we found everything we needed in the quaint and friendly stores which were open, and which provided the groceries, souvenirs, treats and hot coffee we love. Staying at this wonderful cottage allowed us to spend a wonderful week and enjoy the spectacular beaches and nature trails of the area. We would surelyagain, and here surely stay definitely recommend this to others.

Our Ocracoke Home

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay and it definitely won't be the last. The property, while right in the heart of the village, is just far enough removed from the main road to remain quite private and semi-secluded. How nice to be within walking distance of nearly everything. The is the quintessential beach cottage, furnished simply, but comfortably. The kitchen is compact and outfitted with everything needed to prepare simple meals. The availability of a washer and dryer is a huge convenience, especially when traveling with children. The fact that this owner permits pets is a significant plus. The owners are simply lovely people, addressing even the smallest request with immediacy. Already looking forward to a longer stay next summer!

Stay here!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great week.

The cottage was exactly as advertised. Although small, it was quite comfortable for two adults and two children. It was very close to beaches and shops.

Understated, inexpensive, tastefully furnished, and in a great location by Silver Lake. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, there were plenty of towels, and the AC worked wonderfully during the hot and humid days.

The bed was extremely comfortable.

The owner was thoughtful and unobtrusive.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay with no negative experiences. I'd recommend it!

One of the best locations on the island

  • 4 of 5

Nice house with a business in the front part. The house was fully equipped and clean. Washer, dryer, coffee pot, toaster, and everything we needed for the week stay. The only bathroom is on the first floor and the bedroom is upstairs. Not a big deal. We kept the car parked and walked almost everywhere. Close to food, fishing charters, and entertainment. If you want to go to the ocean, you will need to make the 3 minute drive in a car. I will book this property again.

The only place to consider!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful week! This cottage was PERFECT for two tired northerners and two Standard Poodles! As they say ... Location! Location! Location! This spot makes for a 5 minute walk to anywhere - morning coffee at the Okracoke Coffee Company (don't miss this gem!) afternoon sails from the pier across the street, evening sunsets at the Jolly Roger - and every artisan gift boutique or gourmet restaurant on the island. As far the amenities themselves - comfortable bed, pullout sofas for our overnight guests and plenty of space for the pups. This tasteful restored, quaint space accommodated us, our guests and a dinner party for 6 (we both like to cook, and the gas range, charcoal grill and dishwasher made for a great evening!). Central AC made for an extremely comfortable stay when we returned from the hot afternoon sun to settle in with a good book. We just cannot say enough about how enjoyable our stay was - and for people who travel with pets - that's not always the case! So close to everything, and yet, so private, the dogs were not distracted or excited about anything going on outside. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, relaxing, affordable, worry-free week!!!
