Why Beverly Reese chose Brooklyn
The Neighborhood "Good morning," and "Good afternoon" are what you hear when you walk up and down Stuyvesant Avenue and throughout the surrounding blocks, from old-timers and new residents, in this historically, charming neighborhood. For decades, it has been a cultural center for Brooklyn's African American population. A score of new cafes, restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, galleries, and wine bars have sprung up in the area laced with beautiful brownstone homes on tree-lined blocks. A diverse mix of students, hipsters, artists, creative professionals, architects, and attorneys of all races continue to move to the neighborhood, along with long-time residents call this neighborhood home which has an authenticity like no other in New York.

Great apartment away from the bustle of Manhattan!
We stayed at Beverly's flat for a week with our four year old in June 2017. We had a great time! The flat is well equipped and was an excellent base and a place to relax from sightseeing. It is close to lots of restaurants and small grocery stores, and is about a 12 minute walk to the nearest subway stop, which goes direct to the centre of Manhattan. Beverly was very helpful and an excellent host, and it was easy to get in touch with her during our stay.
The flat consists of a large living/dining area, a big bedroom with a small single one off it and a bathroom on the top floor of a traditional Brooklyn brownstone. There is some road noise, and it was rather hot when were were there, but in the main part of summer Beverly has an air con unit so this shouldn't usually be a problem. She also has plenty of useful recommendations to share, and we tried out several of them :)
If you are staying with young children it's worth checking out Prospect Park in Brooklyn, which has a splash pad, playgrounds and lots of space for running/cycling. We spent most of a hot day there and it's much closer than Central Park (though that is also amazing!).
We had a great holiday in Brooklyn. Fine city, perfect neighborhood, great flat, and our host was simply the best.
Thanks a lot Beverly.
Maria, Lone and Frans. Denmark.
Maria, Lone and Frans, come back anytime! We enjoyed having you all and wish you could be here for Halloween. The house is decorated so nicely and now we're preparing for the trick or treaters. Next time, we'll have dinner together!
Thanks so much for being lovely guests!
Very Nice Host + Comfortable Flat Close to Manhattan
We had a great time at Beverly's flat!
She is the most was the most warm helpful and welcoming host you could imagine. The rental is located close enough to the public transportation to get you to the city centre easy and reasonably quick, with just a 10 min walk to the train station and the neighbourhood is peaceful and a great mix of different people.
There is also a nice grocery store within less than 5 min of walking from the flat, as well as a few different restaurants and a fully equipped kitchen.
Michael, Corinna, Johannes are such a lovely, lovely family! We enjoyed meeting and having them stay in our flat. They were so respectful of our Brownstone and understanding it's history and uniqueness. They were able to navigate the neighborhood and the city on their own and had a great vacation. After their stay, Michael, Corrina, and Johannes left the apt in perfect order.
They were so very interested in knowing more about the neighborhood/community and the people who live here that makes it very different from other places in the world. Bedford-Stuyvesant is such a special place and so many folks from all over the world are understanding the history of African-Americans living here, but we (the community) are also welcoming others from different parts of the world and embracing diversity (in all its forms) and inclusiveness that is embedded in the heart of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community.
Thank you for being great guests. I would love for you to come back on your next visit and if you do, we should schedule out some time to chat on the "stoop" and chat more about the neighborhood, as you suggested. When I am in Berlin, I would be sure to look you up.
Take good care,
Great place to visit NY (Brooklyn und Manhattan)
We had a great time there. Family Reese is very helpful and friendly. Thanks for everything!
The NIcolett family were just wonderful! They frequented restaurants and shops in the neighborhood before venturing to the city for sightseeing. They were an absolute delight! Thank you for treating my home with good care!
