About Peggy Gleason

My husband and I have lived in Oregon for 16 years. Paul is retired and I work for a non profit agency in our home in Salem. We are outdoor enthusiasts and love our time spent at The Moose House - whether we're enjoying our boat out on the lake, hiking a nearby trail, or just relaxing inside watching a movie or reading a book. Unfortunately, we live 200 miles from The Moose House, so we aren't able to enjoy it as much as we would like. We are considering retirement there, but until that time, we love to share it with others who enjoy it as much as we do.

Peggy Gleason purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Peggy Gleason chose Hood Canal, Olympic Peninsula

We first saw Lake Cushman when Paul was getting certified to scuba dive in the Hood Canal late in November of 1999. I drove up to the Lake to find a place to hike and fell in love with it. A few months later we made a trip up there to look at cabins for sale. We felt it would be a great getaway location for our family as well as a possible retirement community.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked at many cabins, but chose The Moose House because of it's very close proximity to the Lake and Community Park, large and fairly private lot, high vaulted ceilings, big picture windows and the overall feel of home. We have never regretted our decision. The Moose House has been a vacation rental since the year 2000 and has become the most well known and best loved rental in the area. Many of our guests return year after year and think of this cabin as their own home. Our cabin is the perfect home for our large collection of mooses, and children love trying to count them all. This home is lovingly cared for by our nearby managers and always kept very clean and well appointed. Our guests come to our cabin to celebrate many special occasions including honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and one couple even returned to have their wedding there. We've had guests from all over the country and the world, and even a famous movie star! Book your weekend getaway or memorable vacation now and become one of the hundreds of very happy Moose House Alumni!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at the Moose House to have a scrapbook weekend. I was so impressed with how clean it was. We loved all the windows that look directly out to the woods. It feels so serene. The owner is very easy to work with and very friendly. We loved it so much that we are going again next weekend. Another thing that I loved is that it didn't cost us our left arm to rent it and that she doesn't charge a house keeping fee. As long as you clean, clean, clean when leave and leave it how you found it, it is all good! I am so thankful that we found the Moose House, we will definately be using it frequently.

Cozy, Warm, and Rustic

  • 5 of 5

Peggy was extremely easy and thorough to work with in the booking process. All of the instructions and directions were spot on and easy to follow. Although I was staying here alone, there is plenty of space for a family of 4 to move and relax. Although my time was short, the location, surroundings, and overall aesthetic were simply marvelous and relaxing. Highly recommended and I will definitely be booking again in the near future for another stay!

Private log home in a quiet pine setting nestled at the edge of Olympic National Park

  • 5 of 5

We spent 9 days, hiking, exploring and traveling around the Olympic peninsula and the Moosehouse was the perfect place to come back to. The house offered relaxing chairs (indoor and out) and sofas to rest in, quiet corners if you wanted space and plenty of options for cooking up our own dinners. The pre-existing stock of spices was a wonderful bonus that didn't leave us short of that little extra while cooking. The proximity of Lake Cushman Grocery (3miles) and the IGA in Hoodsport (7 miles) made any grocery issues a snap. The fire pit in the back surrounded with Adirondack chairs and the wood pile just begged being used - unfortunately on our time line there was a burn ban in effect (no fault of the the owners). The washer and dryer in the garage proved to be very useful on several occasions. While we did not have water craft to take advantage of the Lake Cushman pass, we did utilize the park pass to Skokomish park and enjoyed an evening hiking in the local area. Speaking of which, if you are in halfway decent shape (the hike is described as strenuous and it is at the top), don't miss hiking/climbing Mt Ellinor (8 miles to lower trail head and 11 miles to upper trail head). Rated the 3rd best hike in the State by the Washington Hiking Club, at the very peak, you get 360 views of the interior of Olympic National Park including Mt Olympus, all of Hood Canal, Mt. Rainer, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St Helens. Beware of the overly friendly mountain goats.

Cozy Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Peggy's cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It was clean, cozy, and had a good cabin feel to it. My wife and I relaxed in the cabin, and also did some exploring up Staircase. It was nice to come back to the cabin and be able to shower, cook, relax, etc. We are hoping to come back sometime and bring our kids.

very good value

  • 5 of 5

Very cute cabin ,nice bed, bath, pans, couches, etc.Seemed secluded in back, very nice fire pit area. There was a burn ban in effect so couldn't use it, but enjoyed sitting back there and barbecuing.Would love to go back with our grandchildren, they would love the upstairs.Wouldn't recommend boat ramp across the street for bigger boats, but there are other ones close by.If you go by the maintenance office on the way there they could tell you which would suit you.Definitely make time to go on the lake, even in a raft if that's what you have, its beautiful.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review. We have never heard from any of our renters who had boats that they were unable to launch their boat from our community park ramp. Although it is only a one lane ramp, the water is fairly deep there. I can see if you had a very large boat that it may be difficult, so it's always a good idea to check out the ramp before backing down your boat. There is another boat launch (public) less than a half mile away at Skokomish Park.
