About Joaquim Torné Coloreu

I'm an 'empordanès' guy, that's to say a guy born in l'Empordà seaside, in the north-east of Catalonia. And, though since I started my university business studies here in Barcelona I have stayed here, I honestly believe that my main personality, which has to do with making things as simples as possible and an ironic sense of humour, comes mainly from this 'my' origin. I'm 50th, two nice kids 16 and 19, and after working very hard for years I took a sabbatical period in my executive career. That’s all! But, at the same time, very close to many touristic interesting destinations, including the downtown. Ideal to live Barcelona city staying very near the beach!

What makes this apartment unique

The flat takes its character from its minimalist and high design decoration, including some modern designers’ furniture that, together with sailing and seaside paintings and photos, give it a very personal ‘Empordà atmosphere’, the birthplace of the owner (and also of Salvador Dalí and Josep Pla!)

Not exactly what I was expecting

I had 2 clients in this apartment and I thought I would have more but unfortunately no one else was looking for accommodation. I had told the owner that I was hoping to get more clients to share it but I wasn't sure. So originally I booked the apartment for 2 people and when more people signed up we would resolve payment etc. From the beginning I felt like the booking process and the owner was very accommodating and friendly as he even offered me to see the apartment before my clients arrived.

Unfortunately less then a week before my clients were due to the apartment the owner told me that he had to stay in the apartment with my clients due to his issues with another apartment that he lived in. As you can imagine I was in a jam I had paid already and he said he wouldn't give me the money back if I cancelled. But what I was paying for was not what I originally thought I was getting. Luckily in the end my clients were ok with staying in the apartment with the owners as they had separate bathrooms etc. The owner also did find a place for his dog to stay as well. As far as I know my clients were ok in the apartment. But the experience for me was very stressful and in my opinion very unprofessional. I am sure this sort of thing would not happen again but I would never book this apartment again as I would be afraid that the owner would cancel the booking whenever he felt like it.

Owner's Response: AS FAR AS I KNOW, ANOTHER 2 SATISFIED GUESTS: 1st- Our guests, Kathy and Ricardo, enjoyed a single bedroom each and a shared bathroom only for themselves use. 2nd- Dealing with them was exquisite and friendly at all times, so we've added them to our friends' list. 3rd- And even Ricardo send us the following farewell message in spanish : 'Asunto: Thank you Estimados Joaquim, Alicia, y Max, Mensaje breve para agradecerles una estadia excelente. Gracias por acojerme en su apartamento. Hasta la proxima. Cordialmente, Ricardo' ... and told us he will probably come back in the next future. AS FOR HEATHER, THE PERSON WHO MADE THE RESERVATION: 1st- She offered me the acomodation of 'most probably 3 to 5 independent guests' she said, that would have had to share 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. 2nd- Nevertheless she only paid for 2 guests when she made the reservation later on. 3rd- In case of the offered 3 up to 5 guests reservation (1 or more guests per bedroom), or coming home a family or a friends group or so, we would have never proposed to share the apartment. 4th- As explained to Heather, our need to stay temporaly in the apartment arose under very special and unrepeatable personal circumstances. 5th- Our stay in the apartment was completely agreed previously with her, who gave her full consent to it. SO FINALLY, AND AFTER ALL THESE CONSIDERATIONS, I must say that I find it difficult to understand the content and motivation of the review ?!

Great location.

This apartment is in an excellent location. We were in Barcelona for a conference and stayed a few extra days afterwards. It was an easy (and safe) 20 minute walk to the conference centre (CCIB), and less than 5 minute walk to the beach. Numerous shops and restaurants are within the immediate area, and we actually were able to walk to the downtown area from the apartment - although transit stops are nearby.

The apartment is a nice size and the 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms make it ideal for families.

The apartment was clean and welcoming. There's plenty of space to sit and everything is lovingly decorated. A home from home. There's enough room for 4 lads sharing the bunk bed rooms and a couple in the main ensuite bedroom. The balconies were a nice place to stand and smoke (if you do) although you cannot fit people sitting on them they were a lovely bonus. There's a working projector and comfortable sofa and the dining table is a good size. Kitchen is well stocked and the huge fridge makes self catering a lot less hassle.

Five minutes walk to the beach, Five minutes walk to the supermarket and 2 minutes from Ramblas Del Poblenou.

It has everything you require to stay comfortably and was perfect while we were visiting for Prima Vera Sound festival.

When we left we had a message advising we had broken the tap, which we did not think we did, to his absolute credit Joaquim (who was incredibly helpful throughout) had a plumber look at it rather than just charge us from our deposit. If only all business was like this. He actually checked it before just charging straight away like most would. Top gentleman.

It was explained to us upon arrival that we must lock the shutters when we were out and the doors at all times. We obviously did as we were told and always had the key in the lock when we were home. While we were there, our neighbours were burgled and had their passports and money stolen. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE IF YOU LOCK THE DOORS. The Poblenou area gets a lot of bad press for crime so it's just a case of being sensible. We had no issues.

This is a lovely little flat suitable for groups and families alike. I would recommend heavily and hope to do business with Joaquim again.

Excellent Apartment wirth Children

Hello Readers,

the apartment is very close to markets, restaurants and the beach. It is well equiped, clean and big enoug for five people. In five minute walk your at the beach. The beach is clean and has nice restaurant behind. The apartment is so good, that you can stay at home at a rainy day and you feel very comfortable.

The flat is very well located if you like seaside activities: it’s just in front of Poblenou park, 2 min walking to Mar Bella beach and Base Náutica nautical sports club (sailing,..); and 10 min walking to Port Olimpic harbour. It’s also 2 min walking to the most nice Poblenou neighbourhood places, like the local typical market called Mercat del Poblenou; and the Rambla del Poblenou boulevard, where you can enjoy tasty ‘tapas’ seated in a shady terrace, or check the commerce offer. And last, but not the least, you can easily pay visit to the main touristic destinations in Barcelona: Sagrada Familia church from Antoni Gaudí, Agba Tower from Jean Nouvel, or Santa María del Mar cathedral, in El Born downtown, for example. All this through a very practical public transport system: underground yellow line number 4, Llacuna and Poblenou stations; plus several buses, number H16 in front home, 10 min to the centric downtown.

As you see, many interestings things to see and to do!
