About Martin or Jill Whalen

We are Jill and Marty Whalen. We currently live in Colorado where Marty is from. Jill was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jill teaches elementary school and Marty is a building and electrical contractor.

Martin or Jill Whalen purchased this house in 2012

Why Martin or Jill Whalen chose Central Coast

We bought Anchors Away after searching up and down the coast for a waterfront home close to the ocean yet secluded enough to avoid crowds. We have vacationed in New Bern for many years and are entranced by it's unique blend of southern charm, natural wonder, and historical significance.

What makes this house unique

We fell hard for Anchors Away the moment we opened the front door and could see boats from the entryway. In this busy world there is serenity, comfort, and calm that comes from slowing down, unwinding, and enjoying the water.

Amazing Property!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this property to visit my Son who is Stationed at Cherry Point. We spent most of our time fishing catching a variety of large catfish and other species from the dock and the canoe/kayaks were great to have! Very quiet with a private backyard. Even room to park a car in the garage, which I did. The owners are super nice, thanks for sharing your home with us we had a blast and I'll never forget my time spent there!! Anchors Away!!

Beautiful setting for relaxation.

  • 5 of 5

Looking for a beautiful, serene setting? This property has just what you need for a relaxing time away from home. Everything is just as advertised, only prettier! It is clean and well kept, and the owners include a lot of extras to make your stay more enjoyable. I am hoping to make another trip here in the future, but this time I will leave the demanding grandchildren at home!

Great house, great location, great owner!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great family getaway at Anchors Away! It was so nice to be able to spread out but still be together; my son and I really enjoyed the kayaks and bikes. This is such a wonderful neighborhood and a peaceful location; we hated to leave. Marty was just great to work with and very accommodating; we would definitely stay here again!

Great place to get away with family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here at the end of September and celebrated my birthday. Had the kids come stay as well. We all enjoyed the beautiful home on a quiet cove (Anchor Cove) in River Bend, NC. The location was great and close enough to go to New Bern for dinner celebration and grocery stores, etc. were also close by. We used the marina at River Bend to launch the boat and were able to dock the boat at the house. The kids used the kayaks and there is a very nice launch for those at the dock as well. Ample parking at the house for a couple of cars and a truck and boat trailer. Martin was wonderful to work with and was in touch with us upon arrival to make sure everything was good when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this home to my friends and family and we will certainly be going back again.

A little slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family stayed here in January 2015. We got a phone call 1/14/15 that our father passed away in a car accident with no hesitation we drove all the way from Washington state to New Bern, NC. Once we got close we had to find somewhere to stay with 6 of us we knew it would be expensive and difficult. We came accross this home and thought it was too good to be true. I called and spoke to Martin and he was such a "breath of fresh air" during a really hard time. He made things so easy and simple for us. The home was beautiful and in great condition. Me and my sisters were just so grateful to have found this home and wanted to say Thank you to Martin for his understanding and cooperation.
