The bathroom is located off the kitchen and features a stacked washer dryer, tub/shower and pedestal sink. There are heart pine hardwood floors throughout the first floor with many original features.

The bedroom is located on the 2nd floor with exposed beam ceilings and has a closet.

About Lois Lane

Lois is a native Charlestonian and has lived in many neighborhoods downtown. She owns a real estate company and has been in the business for 30 years. She has been involved in numerous renovations around the city and particularly loves historic Cannonborough. It is vibrant, diverse, exciting and yet retains so many of the elements that has made Charleston one of the most livable city's in the United States.

Why Lois Lane chose Charleston

The house on Cannon Street is particularly sweet. Originally it was a four room house with a center hall and a two story kitchen house at the back. The neighborhood was originally settled by many working immigrants but the architecture is true to Charleston. There are a number of very impressive homes in the neighborhood along with smaller Charleston single style homes retaining their original charm.

What makes this cottage unique

The house is situated on a large lot which leaves plenty of room for parking. Each of the three units here have their own porch, perfect for enjoying the afternoon breeze after a long day of seeing the historic sites. The apartments are equipped for cooking but you will probably want to walk a few blocks for some local cuisine.

Charming place to stay for the weekend

We loved our 2-night stay at this charming cottage house. Perfect place to spend our Valentine's weekend! Lois was very accommodating with our early check-in, which was a relief since we didn't have a car or anywhere else to drop our bags for a few hours. It was a 10 minute walk to some amazing restaurants and bars, and it was nice to have a place to cook up our leftovers when we had ordered too much the night before. It was also convenient that we could have used the washer/dryer if we needed to (perhaps during a longer stay). We spent most of our time out of the house exploring the town, but we loved feeling like our day in historic Charleston wasn't finished when we came in for the night--the house itself is a piece of history! Wish I had had time to read the book of Charleston ghost stories. I recommend this place to anyone looking for historic housing for a weekend trip to Charleston.

Not for everyone

My girlfriend and I stayed at this property for 5 nights. Lois, the leasing agent, could not have been more helpful, friendly and accessible and the confirmation process was very easy.

The place itself is very clean but old and cramped. The upstairs/bedroom in particular has very low ceilings and would be uncomfortable for anyone over 6 feet tall. The wi-fi only worked sporadically and when it did work, was weak. There is adequate closet space for 2 people but the kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room are definitely 'charming' in real estate parlance, 'small' in normal language. As noted in other reviews, getting luggage up the stairs to the bedroom required some effort. We did not have a car but the parking area - shared with the 2 units in the main house - has room for at least 3 cars.

The rate we paid was reasonable in comparison with similar properties but after a couple of days, the charming character of the place frankly became uncomfortable.

We found the location to be excellent both for local shops/restaurants as well as walking (~10 minutes) access to King Street. Cannonborough is a neighborhood in transition and I'm sure the eclectic mix of retail and other activities will continue to improve.

Owner's Response: Our property is a historic residence built in the 1830's. We call this particular unit "the cottage" because it is small and while most guests find it to be charming and cozy some may need a large apartment while staying in Charleston. In the past four years we have not heard of a guest who had trouble getting their luggage up the stairs. Had we know we would gladly have come over to assist. We leave a hand written note for each guest with our contact information so they can contact us if they need anything. We are proud of our property and happy that a number of guests return each year.

Conviently Located Near The Citadel

We stayed in the property during The Citadel Parent's Weekend. Traffic near the school that weekend is crazy. The cottage was within a mile of the college and we were able to easily walk or take an inexpensive ride with Uber and avoid the gridlock traffic. The cottage had everything we needed and then some. We didn't do much cooking, but could have. I did take advantage of the washing machine and dryer which was a nice plus. Lois was great and we had everything we needed to make checking in and out smooth. My only suggestion would be to switch up the bathroom a little bit. There is really no counter space which can be a challenge. Also, there should be a plug for the sink drain. Contacts could easily go right down the sink if you aren't careful. All in all, a great stay. We are planning to stay there again in the future.

Nicely maintained property

The property was nice and quaint, clean, maintained specifically for guests. It is an old building with lots of charm and has been upgraded well. The location is a little bit of a walk to historic center but only a 5 min drive. There is quite a bit of helicopter traffic noise since it is close to major medical center. Plenty of parking but the entry driveway is a bit tough to find since it is a little obstructed in view by the house before it and cannot see the address numbers well in the dark. Owner had informed us of this in advance. Appliances show some wear but are clean. Did have to go to local grocery to buy coffee and sugar since there was only tea and artificial sweetner. Would stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are happy to know this guest would like to stay with us again. We have been very diligent to let guests know about the city upgrades with the sidewalks and streets which have made it a little difficult to immediately spot the house this past summer. The city improvements are almost complete and are not only a beautiful improvement but also a confirmation that this historic section of Charleston is vibrant and important to the city's economic growth. Most guests who stay with us eat out as we are within blocks of some of the most popular new restaurants and boutiques. Our appliances are modern, not brand new, but very clean. There is a gas range, a built in microwave, a dishwasher, and a full size refrigerator. For those who wish to do their own cooking while visiting Charleston we are told by our guests that the kitchen is very well stocked. We always leave a hand written note to let guests know how to reach us if they need anything. If the need a special sauce pan or utensil we always respond quickly.
