About Lisa Steenson
Lisa and Brian "We love creating an environment where people come out and really relax and enjoy nature at its best". The lush green wooded setting, the rivers, and the outdoor activity opportunities are unmatched. We are happy to give your group a quick tour and leave you to explore from there. We live on the property, but are very respectful of your privacy. Lisa is an OSU grad and works out of the house as a board game designer (Gut Bustin' Games) and Brian commutes into Portland and works for Boeing. We love hosting and making sure you have everything you need to make The High Lonesome an amazing experience!

Why Lisa Steenson chose Yacolt
Why The High Lonesome? Take away traffic, noise, cement, ambient light, and stores and you will just begin to understand. Add two rivers, 200 foot tall trees, lush green, quiet, nature, hikes, flowers, waterfalls, campfires, and lots of space to rest. You will find The High Lonesome as a perfect retreat and long to return each year to enjoy nature on that level again . If a car passes once a day, we are surprised. Wi fi is available, but is hidden from teens for a screen-free vacation. The rivers are clean, cool, and mesmerizing. Swimming in the summer, watching for salmon to pass in the fall, dramatic fast moving current in the winter, and clear and beautiful in the spring. Any time of the year is the perfect time of year. Kids will find a Pirate Ship play deck and a Western Town their size. We have lots of toys, games, and yard sports. There are Make and Take art supplies. Most importantly, exploring nature. The river is amazing and there are several options for hikes right from the property. Why did we but this property? We raised three daughter here and they LOVE coming home to visit with their families. . Many memories that they are now sharing with their little kids! Wading and swimming in the river, catching frogs, hikes with their dogs, picking flowers and berries along the trail, watching fish make it up the river all contributed toward their love and appreciation of nature and animals.
What makes this Guest House unique
Unique benefits include a private river beach. Sit and relax with your group on your own beach. Watch the river from your deck. Walk along Copper Creek and take in SO much green that you can't stand it! The forest is green year 'round. Put your toes in the river. Enjoy a cold beverage on the deck at night with a million stars that pop out at night with no ambient light. These are all the reasons we moved here and stayed after the kids have grown. Who can go back to the city after this?

Terrific hosts w/ huge hearts for hospitality! Excellent place to unplug and reconnect with nature!
We have 6 children, the youngest were 2 1/2 month old twins at the time of our visit. Lisa and her family showed an incredible heart for hospitality. On the first morning, we had not stopped at a store before we arrived, and they shared eggs and sausages with us for our first breakfast. The next night we enjoyed spending time with them over the first campfire of the season. It felt like we had know them forever. Lisa made sure that our older children had a fabulous time with her dogs, tortoises, and cats. She had provided tons of games, toys and bead projects for rainy days. She even went the extra mile on our oldest son's birthday and made homemade ice cream with the kids. She gave us a personal tour of the 12 acres, showing us two of the most beautiful places in WA. One day, they even had pizza waiting for us when we got home from a busy day away. It was a great getaway for our growing family. We hope to return someday one summer to experience even more of the property opportunities! Visitors should be aware there is NO cell coverage in the surrounding area (7 miles to the nearest spot) and the wifi is only available near the main house. Don't let that stop you from taking advantage of the unbelievably wonderful and comfortable unplugged experience.
Wonderful Oasis, Excellent Service
We stayed here with another family for the weekend. We expected to hike around, swim in the river and generally relax. What we didn't expect was five star treatment! We played a game called, "Is there ANYTHING they forgot to provide us" and we couldn't find a thing! From the toothpaste at the sink to the post-it notes with the house quirks, we felt well taken care of during our stay. Add to all of that the fact that there were the cutest puppies being fostered at the "main house" by our hosts. (I think the other family ended up with one once they were available for adoption!) This is truly a delightful place to stay! We are already talking about another visit...Thanks Lisa for making this so easy!
