Overview

About the property

three bedroom, two bathroom, and a walk to the harbor and downtow

When you come to my house I want you to feel , well, happy! Its a modest home, built in 1903 by the city's first optometrist. There is a nice design to the place, high ceilings , carpenter's details and handpainted decorative walls. I'm always working to improve the gardens. There's a big tree that shades the house in the summer. The yard is fenced and hedged. It's nice and simple..

There's a barn in the back which has my yard tools and a studio.

About Debby Atwell

The owner, Debby Atwell is an author and illustrator of children's books. Now retired, she is studying mindfulness meditation and can tell you with places in town to do yoga and to meditate.

Debby Atwell purchased this house in 1987

Why Debby Atwell chose Mid-Coast & Islands

My house will surprise you in a good way... I bought the house thirty years ago and have been working on it to bring it to modern efficiency and ease but to preserve the old feeling of the 1900's in Maine. Rockland is the first small city in the Penobscot Bay. So beautiful. I like that I can see the water from my street and that I can hear fog horns in a storm.

What makes this house unique

The yard is hedged and fenced but is not sufficient to hold in a dog . It's quite private but you still are a few blocks from downtown, festivals, Main St. and the harbor.

Very lovely house. The yard is very private and was gorgeous..

  • 5 of 5

We had our family of five and it was wonderful to all stay in the same place. The house was very comfortable and we where able to enjoy the Rockland area. We could walk downtown in just a few minutes. Debby the owner was fabulous to work with. Lots of good memories.

clean and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We love the house style, the furniture and all the decors. The garden is gorgeous, too. I can see lots of effort and love Debby puts in the house which turn it into a lovely home. Beds are comfortable and lots of clean towels and linens available. We enjoy our stay very much. Thanks!

Great home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Comfy house in the chilly Maine spring weather. Has everything needed for your Maine vacation stay. Quiet, clean, lots of room, lovely Debbie Atwell artwork on some walls, floor and ceilings and Debbie is a very accommodating and helpful owner. Location is easy walking distance to everything in Rockland downtown and harbor. Street faces due east with the ocean in view at the end of the street beyond a park. Lovely gardens had the spring flowers blooming. I bought a house on this trip to retire and live in beautiful Rockland, Maine but would definitely stay in this house again if I hadn't. Thanks Debbie!

Enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

The owner was very kind and thoughtful. House charming and quaint. The beds were unbelievably comfortable! Located in the heart of Rockland, you can literally walk to all great venues. You must visit Camden and go hiking at Camden Hills State Park. Maiden Cliffs also a great hike. I was there to Plein Air paint with fellow artists. So many scenes that sparkle, inviting the artist's eye to capture the light. I would definitely recommend this place to stay. My only suggestion for the owner would be to put reading lights (bedside lamps) in the bedrooms. (Old house, old lighting). I would rate this VRBO home a two thumbs up!!!!!

Great location personalized with art

  • 5 of 5

Debby is a delightful, accommodating and flexible host. We were arriving unexpectedly late, and Debby volunteered -- no, insisted -- that she go to the grocery store before it closed to get the milk we needed for breakfast.

Her home is in a great location near downtown and the harbor, although early morning weekday traffic may awaken light sleepers. Debby's artwork personalizes an otherwise pretty basic, but functional, house. There are good lights downstairs for reading, something usually hard to find in vacation rentals.

We'd stay there again.

Lovely home within walking distance of charming town

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in Debbie's home and enjoyed our stay there. We ate most of our evening meals at home-the kitchen was well stocked with cooking implements and functions well for someone who likes to cook. The rest of the house is charming and comfortable. We loved being able to walk into town several times a day to enjoy the restaurants, movie theater, access to the ferry, and roaming in the shops. We also enjoyed the proximity to the Farnsworth Museum--a must see experience. Debbie came by to check on us once to make sure we had what we needed. She is a charming host--befitting her home.
