Peaceful .... and beyond exceptional views ....
Although I have travelled throughout the Lakes Region of New Hampshire for decades, this was my first visit to stay and explore an area of the southern part of the state. An interest in American history and literature brought me to a Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce program honoring Willa Cather. (For decades, Willa Cather traveled during the summer to Jaffrey. She would stay at an Inn in Jaffrey and here she wrote parts of many of her famous novels. She is also buried in the Old Cemetery). Jaffrey, Peterborough, and other small towns within a short drive of this cottage are well worth exploring. The weather was perfect for autumn in New Hampshire - chilly (even cold!), but sunny with clear skies. Given such, I did not use any of the boats, etc, but I did enjoy sitting on the shoreline and being so close to the water. The cottage with comfortable and I had everything I needed. The bed in the Master Bedroom was extremely comfortable. The kitchen and pantry was well stocked with all the basics for prepare some good meals. Roy's Market, a small grocer in Peterborough, suited my food shopping needs as I was here only a few days. Because I was out most of the day, I did not use the wood stove - although it looked very inviting. The electric heat was just what I needed. It was very relaxing to drink my morning coffee and soak up the beauty of the lake and sky through the big picture windows. The stars were bright and the sky was full of constellations several nights, and I was delighted to see a determined Belted Kingfisher zoom along the shoreline. Honesty - it was hard to leave! I hope I have the opportunity to return to this cottage and the beauty of this area.
Beautiful setting with a great small house. Tastefully decorated. Great view of the lake. Nice wood stove to warm the place up. Hiked Mt. Monadnock and enjoyed the Fall foliage. Perfect for a weekend get away.
The house is amazing and well equipped. Everything is thought about, clean and organized, not to mention the tasteful design.
Thanks and we will come back!
Excellent stay at Rockwood Pond
Great location and beautiful weather made for a really enjoyable week at Rockwood Pond. The family and I really enjoyed the swimming and exploring of the region, and I would highly recommend the house. Robert has outfitted the house with everything you need and then some. It is a great way to spend an early summer visit to New Hampshire and the Monadnock Region.
Wonderful pond side retreat!
We had a wonderful, relaxing time here. The wood stove made things very cozy and the layout of the house had an easy flow. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and found everything we needed to cook with! The bed was very comfortable, and all was clean. Thank you so much!!
Beautiful location- great stay!
Coming back to the U.S. after many years overseas, Robert's cottage on Rockwood Pond was just what the family needed. After extending our stay in September, the house and the pond were pristine. Robert has stocked it with everything you need and the pond is great for swimming, kayaking/ canoeing or just lounging by the water with the kids. The setting is quiet and perfect for relaxation. Robert was very responsive and attentive to any questions or insight in the area. I am reluctant to write this review, only to to share this great spot with others....would go back in a heartbeat and may try to in the next summer. Wonderful host and an even better house and setting!
