About Sylvia C Ellingwood
2017 will mark the 52nd year we've owned our camp. We were just married when we bought the property and immediately started building it. Never have we found a more desirable waterfront site than this one. So many precious family memories. Over the past couple decades we have been pleased to be able to provide a few lucky families a chance to spend quality time with their families too. Due to short supply of summer weeks you are invited to book early. You won't be sorry.
Why Sylvia C Ellingwood chose Readfield
Location, Location, Location. Great value for family friendly rates. Much of the return derived from our family's efforts to present a clean, safe and comfortable experience comes from the happy guests we see returning each year. You won't want to leave.

It was okay
Cottage was clean, but had some issues. Sleeps 7, indoor table meal seating for 2.
Nice picnic table on the deck (not screened) good for meals, (weather & bugs permitting). Bunk bedroom had no drawers or closet for cloths, washing machine in the closet, and top bunk has a ceiling fan 1 foot above the bed (bad idea). toilet leaking onto the floor (their fix was to through a towel around the base of the toilet). Nice fire pit, no chairs to sit on. No trash pick-up, you have to bring it to the dump yourself. Property is nice, quiet, nearest cottage maybe 80' feet away, deck is great, dock also great, deep water both sides easy to dock 2 bass boats. Nice clear water lake easy access to the state launch.
So glad you found the cottage clean as that speaks highly of the guests who occupied prior to you. They are local as are most of our guests and have returned for several years. Locals favor this cottage we find due to the privacy, quiet, close access to the state boat launch and the deep water on both sides of the dock for boats as you've noted in your review, as well as many other unmentioned features. The ample number of deck chairs are normally used by those enjoying the fire pit.
Sorry about the CONDENSATION around the toilet. The State tested well water is very cold. When it cycles through the toilet and hits the warm porcelain, it sweats and results in an amount of moisture easily managed with a towel. Any corrective solution you may have is welcome. Given a choice of a washing machine or none we elected to sacrifice the only place to fit one in. Communication is vital to us being able to accommodate each guests requirements. Glad your overall vacation was enjoyable.
Great cabin on a perfect spot on the lake
What a nice rustic Maine cabin on the lake. We has a great time and the fishing was incredible. We also loved watching the deer slowly meandering down to the lake from the driveway. My son is a fisherman and caught his biggest bass to date 7.26lb on the cove next to the camp. The owner is super nice and checked with us to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
Great time with the family. Beautiful lake views and great for swimming, boating, fishing
My family and I had a great time at the lake cottage. The interior is rustic, which was expected, but the property and lake overall was amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for the overall experience and beautiful scenery it provides.
We're so glad you enjoyed the natural beauty of the lake and the back to nature experience this cottage provides. By staying a bit rustic we keep the old fashion camp experience and provide a rare opportunity to reconnect guests to each other. Am sure lasting memories will live on and hope you can return.
Property is nice and quiet

Wonderful Cabin Wonderful Stay
First I want to start by saying Sylvia is the most accommodating of hosts. We called her to ask a few questions and she was so kind and helpful it made the stay so relaxing.
The cabin itself is just like the cabin my family owns across the lake, although the yard may be even better because it is free of rocks and has a gradual descent to the lake which is uncommon for most of the cabins on Lake Maranacook. The deck is the nicest I have seen on any cabins on the lake and is a lovely place to sit with a cup of coffee and watch the loons. The location is on the quieter Readfield side of the lake and is personally my favorite area of the lake.
The inside of the cabin is rustic and quaint just like the cabin I grew up in across the lake. Almost all the cabins on Lake Maranacook have a similar setup and feel inside. It has all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay.
We were delighted to have these guests include our cottage in their wedding. Judging from this review and their most gracious personal thank you for a top notch stay it appears we will be welcoming them back in the years ahead. So glad to see your appreciation of a classic Maine stay.
Nice location on the lake
The location of this property is lovely, right on the water. The wrap around deck is a delightful place to have your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. There is a brand new grill on the deck, that looks great (we did not use it.) There is a nice dock and fire pit to enjoy. Sylvia the owner is very nice and very responsive to any needs or requests that we had. Unfortunately the only drawback is that the interior, is old, old appliances dated and generally dusty and in need of renovation. If you don't mind that "camp feel" to the interior then I would say this is a perfect place to stay.
For the ultimate in a classic Maine Camp experience this cottage is hands down your best choice. Extreme efforts have gone into the preservation of late 1700/early 1800's super wide cut rustic boards that panel the living room. A 21/2 inch rough cut plank from the same era makes up the eating bar. A total renovation of the interior was done 4 years ago with the removal and replacement of new laminate flooring. At this time a brand new refrigerator was installed. Two years ago a new washing machine was added. This cottage is 500 feet from the nearest neighbor on one side and in addition has over 10 additional wooded acres directly behind the cottage. This buffer is home to local wildlife, endangered plants and a great spot to explore along the brook. In addition it provides plenty of free firepit fuel. If the children want to build a fort there that's permissable too. Come, enjoy, and relax. The cottage is professionally cleaned each season both inside and out. Spiders DO remake their webs. Rather than panicing over a spider web take time to study one early in the morning with dew still on it. Rediscover the beauty of Luna Moths and Cecropia Butterflies. Be serenaded by the many Loons. We ask that the cottage be left , "broom swept clean," and all trash and food removed. An inspection is performed before all new guests take possession to assure a clean, sanitary and safe environment. Even an annual State water test is performed. For those seeking the perfect Maine camp experience with some modern conveniences, this is for you. A favorite of the Maine locals.
