La Petite Porcelaine - Lovely Marais One Bedroom!!

Bedrooms 1
Half Baths1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

This apartment was featured on HGTV’s House Hunters International with Adrian Leeds. The episode shows an aspiring American artist searching for a long-term apartment rental in Paris. She needs to choose between one that is full-furnished, one she can furnish and decorate herself, and a much-cheaper option further outside the city center.

Exceptional value: Priced like a studio even though it’s a small one bedroom, this apartment is in a great location. Easy metro access. 3 blocks (6 min walk) to the Pompidou Center. 10 min walk to Hotel de Ville and the restaurant- and shop-lined Vieille du Temple. 15 min walk across the bridge to Notre Dame Cathedral.

Free phone calls to the U.S., wifi and cable television included. Sleeps 2-3 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids. 3-night minimum stay.

Brought to you by ParlerParisApartments, this small, boutique apartment in the upper Marais lacks nothing for a comfortable stay in Paris. Fully stocked, it comes with everything from linens to cook wear to umbrellas, guidebooks, and MP3 French language lessons.

Located on the second floor of a walk-up centuries-old building, the space is shaped like the letter H. Windows face three directions and because they face each other across a small courtyard below, you have complete privacy.

Whether you’re traveling with friends or kids, the hallway that connects the living room to the bedroom provides privacy between guests, too. A rarity in one-bedroom apartments in Paris.

Kids can be tucked away in the bedroom while the parents enjoy a glass of wine on the couch. Or if you’re traveling with friends, early-risers can stay on the sofa bed and late-sleepers can take the bed(s).

When you enter the “petite porte d’entrée,” there’s a double sofa bed flanked by two storage closets with shelving, hanging space and drawers for your things. In-cabinet lighting highlights a collection of Asian-inspired porcelain pottery with blue motifs. Blues and grays are the color scheme throughout the apartment providing a calm and relaxing ambiance.

Opposite the sofa bed is an entertainment center with a flat screen TV and DVD player. Past the living room area is the eat-in kitchen with fold down dining table for two. Complete with microwave, fridge with freezer, two-burner stove, coffee maker, and all the appliances that you would expect, the kitchen will allow you to dine in as often as you like. All cookware, dishes, glassware and cutlery are provided.

Next to the kitchen is a powder room with sink and toilet. This room will come in handy at night for those sleeping on the sofa bed. (Note: this is the second toilet in the apartment, which is extremely unusual for an apartment of this size and was created purposely to accommodate guests in the living room.)

Another “petite porte” leads to a windowed hallway that connects the bedroom and living room. The bedroom is romantically cozy with a queen-size bed that can be pushed slightly apart into two twins. The large window overlooks the “petite courette.” At the foot of the bed is another custom-built closet with drawers, shelving and plenty of hanging space.

The bath is en suite and has a large bathtub with shower, toilet, sink and combination washer/dryer. (It should be noted that the ceiling over the tub area is low. Bathers over 6 feet tall will have to either duck to get their head under the water or sit down in the tub. There’s a handheld shower wand for this purpose.)

Included with the apartment is cable television (with over 100 channels), WiFi and free telephone with answering machine. Long-distance calls to cell phones and land lines in the US and Canada plus land lines in over 100 other countries are free.

This is a non-smoking apartment. Sorry, no pets allowed. Kids are allowed if you move the vases out of reach.

Special note: this apartment has two slightly lower than standard height doorways.

Special notes: this apartment has two slightly lower than standard-height doorways.

Four adults in this apartment is not recommended. It’s best suited for two adults and/or adults traveling with children. Please consult before booking more than two adults in this property.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I so loved the apartment. When I entered I was quite overwhelmed.

It had everything I needed and more. Plus all the equipment was in excellent order. In a nutshell stylish, fully functional with a degree of quaintness. So so Parisian! Favourite features? Thats difficult. it all so suited me. But I love windows and having so many windows and yet just such absolute privacy is hard to beat. I had read of the quietness of that apartment and this was no exaggeration. The lack of street noise was amazing given that the apartment is so close to the middle of Paris. Your description of the stair case was spot on! I like the Arts and Metiers area. It isn't crowded, yet the shopping is all there.

I had a wonderful holiday and I contribute much of this to my accommodation.

La Petite Procelaine- Amazing Rental

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this apartment for 2 weeks on my recent visit to Paris for a girls getaway weekend. We could not have asked for a better location for our visit. Close to the Metro, several restaurants, supermarkets and shops close buy to obtain all your necessary provisions. Luz greeted us on our arrival and was a gracious host. The apartment is well equipped so all you have to do is unpack and head out for the sights. The queen bed makes into 2 smaller twin beds which is great for a couple or a girls weekend. The apartment is as described in the agreement and we didn't have a problem with the 2 floor walk up (3 floors american). There were several guides about Paris in the apartment which was a plus because its hard to remember all the things you want to see. We had a wonderful stay and definitely recommend staying in this apartment for your trip to Paris!

Perfect little apartment in a perfect Parisian location

  • 5 of 5

I booked this apartment for my two daughters (19&15) and I to have a week in Paris. It is a classic attic apartment. Yes it is small, but very warm, comfortable and well appointed. So handy to the metro, and all the things you could possible need! Fresh food, supermarkets, restaurants, galleries, great clothes - all close by. Excellent concierge service from Hannah introduced to the place & we just made it out home away from home. Easy booking & payment - and everything was as described in the advertisement!! That is always a plus. Thanks for making our satay so easy and enjoyable.

Awesome Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Loved this apartment! My friend and I both brought our daughters for a mommy/daughter Paris trip so there were four of us in the apartment at all times.

I expected us to be on top of each other but we weren’t. And even though we over packed, we still had plenty of room for our bags. One of the other commenters said they didn’t have room but we had more than enough for our 3 carry on suitcases + laptop bags, a book bag and 1 checked bag too big for a carry on (again, we over packed).

Paris apartments are notoriously small so I was pleasantly surprised by the large kitchen, built-in cabinet space, full bathtub and two toilets. The windows were great, too. Lots of natural light and fresh air. No bugs so we left them open all the time.

It’s also incredibly quiet and very well decorated. Nothing felt cheap. It was our oasis from the busy city and you can walk to everything – the Pompidou, Notre Dame, Hotel de Ville, the Louvre. It’s also very close to two natural food stores which was great for my friend’s daughter who has food allergies. Both were an easy walk away as were 3-4 different grocery stores. We really had everything we needed. We’ll be back next year and we’ll stay here again. I loved having the separate bedroom and living room space. I can’t image a better apartment for us.

Quaint little B&B

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in la Petite Porcelain for four nights while exploring Paris. There were 3 of us and we fit fine for the most part in the tiny apartment. Good points? Spotless, all the amenities we wanted including an awesome shower, good water pressure, spotless bathrooms and kitchen. Second bathroom was excellent to have. Great location, we had dinner the first night as recommended by our contact there and it was great. Easy to find, near a metro stop, had a few umbrellas we borrowed when required.

Negatives? Not much room to put our bags even if we unpacked them, lack of floor space. The sofa bed was also a bit pokey and hard. Very quiet area for sleeping though and fans worked great to cool the place off.

We enjoyed our stay and thought the value was very good. Would stay here again, liked the area.

Nice apt but......

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this apt for 4 nights. The apt is beautifully decorated, quiet, spotless and in a great location. I have to say that we were very surprised at how small the apt was. We had another guest for 2 nights and it was definitely tight. I'm not sure what the sq metres are, but it is very tiny. I have rented studios that were larger and for a better price. If size is not an issue than it may be ok for you. Also, as noted, there are 2 short doorways - which didn't bother us - but the shower could also be a problem if you are tall. The main complaints for me were the sinks in both bathrooms. There is a shelf directly above the taps so it is impossible to wash your face or brush your teeth without getting water everywhere. This was really annoying. I have suggested to them that raising the shelves would help. The other issue I had (and I know that this is beyond the owners control) was the condition of the entrance and hallway. It was very dark and desperate need of a makeover. It definitely doesn't live up to the standards of the apt. We go to Paris every year and always rent an apt but I'm afraid we wouldn't rent here again.

Travel Review

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Petite Porcelain for 9 nights. It was our first time to Paris and we found the apartment to be perfect for our needs. It was impeccably clean and was very comfortable for two people. The surrounding neighborhood is lively, even late at night and we felt safe walking home when it was dark out. The street is somewhat quiet, with several art galleries and clothing / handbag importers.

We were able to walk to Notre Dame within 10 minutes and there is a metro stop only a few blocks away in either direction. We also found a fantastic Chinese restaurant only two streets away on Rue Volta on one of the nights where we did not feel like venturing far for dinner. It was one of our favorite (and cheapest) meals during our stay.

It was wonderful to come back to La Petite Porcelain after a day of touring and soak our feet in the spacious bathtub. The shower also had wonderful water pressure and quick hot water, which is something that is always important to me. The ability to do a load of wash during our stay was also a very big plus.

The apartment gave us the privacy we needed as well, as one of us would go to sleep in the bedroom and the other would work on our laptop a bit later into the night / early in the morning. It was a bonus to have the additional small bathroom for getting ready in the morning, etc.

Our point of contact for the apartment was very responsive and kind, when we had a few questions during our stay.

Note: As the apartment description indicates, the doorways are short, even for two 5'3 people! It took a few bunks on the head for us to learn our lesson.

All in all, this apartment is a great value and far exceeded our expectations. When we come back to Paris, we will want to stay here again!
