Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Six Bedroom, 2.5 bath on the Beach

This six bedroom, 2.5 bath cottage located on the Lake Michigan beach has been cared for by the same family for almost 100 years. The location is spectacular with miles of fine sand beaches out your front door and beautiful Portage Lake and beaches out your back door. It just does not get much better. The home is not modern and new which makes it the perfect idea of an old fashion beach cottage. Full kitchen with a gas grill on the patio out back. Living room, dining area, and glassed in porch blend together to create the perfect large gathering area. The sand is some of the best in the world, the water is crystal clear and you can wade far offshore before the water gradually gets over your head. Sunsets and evening campfires on the beach are the best. Beautiful drives up the coast along scenic M22 through apple and cherry orchards. Stop and shop at the unique villages along the way. Visit lighthouses and wineries. Six 18 hole golf courses in our county alone; Arcadia Bluffs, The Heathlands, Bear Lake County Highlands, Manistee National, and Manistee Golf and Country Club. Bring your fishing pole and fish right out your door. Book a charter fishing trip out of Portage Lake on Lake Michigan for Salmon and Trout or visit some world class trout and salmon streams in the area. Try your luck at the Little River Casino, 10 miles away. Hope your family gets to experience this wonderful place.

6 adult couples - our annual getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Great weekend, wonderful gathering beachfront house for friends. 6BR worked perfectly. Parked 6 vehicles and boat in driveway (a little tight but it worked). Easy access to put 6 kayaks in Portage Lake. We picked a stormy weekend, but one day was perfect and we spent all day on the beach (water was high so beach area was limited). Sunsets were amazing and watching evening storms roll across the lake was spectacular. On a rainy/cool day, we made a short trip to Frankfort for shopping and a visit to Stormcloud Brewery! We will be back!!!

Spectacular Sunsets

  • 5 of 5

I came up with a group of 8 friends for a golf and casino weekend. The house was perfect for us; more than enough beds and the bathrooms were not a problem.

The house worked well for us, but the real gem here is the Lake Michigan frontage. Absolutely perfect skies in the evening, and the beach is extremely private. We will definitely be back for the next guy's golf trip.

Bennett Cottage Awesomeness!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family couldn't have enjoyed this house more. This was our 4th year searching for a Lake Michigan, family vacation rental property ... and it finally met all our needs. Exceeded it, really, with the accessibility to Portage Lake. We absolutely loved it. Beautiful ambience, perfect family-gathering, puzzle-working areas and a wonderful outdoor meal setting. Jeff, the manager, was everywhere, in a good way! Totally accessible and accommodating. Already looking forward to next year's stay.

Absolutely Quaint and Charming!

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 14-15 has loved staying here two different years and hope to return soon. The location is perfect - beautiful beach front and a short walk to Portage Lake. Groceries, quaint restaurants, tennis courts and golf are near by. We have enjoyed beautiful sunsets, long walks and sand castles. One surprising positive note was how the kids (tweens and teens) had fun with the rest of us taking turns with the showers. Owners are very responsive.

A Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5

We love this cottage! The space is amazing with lots of beds to accommodate any combination of families. But to be on Lake Michigan to the west for beach walks and sunsets on a deck that can't be beat with Portage Lake just behind for sunrises and water sports, this is an unbeatable spot! Clean and charming, close to restaurants, great golf, and some cute shopping, there is something for everyone in our family.

Perfect Week on Portage Point

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous sunsets and campfires on the big lake (Michigan) and swimming, paddling, and sailing on the little lake (Portage) - what's not to like!

This home was the perfect base for our reunion of family age 67 to 3. Our outdoorsy folks were walking/running on the beach or on the water every day + a day of golf, while our home bodies were reading, playing games, or just sharing life stories. The living room / dining room and glassed in porch are big enough for everyone plus guests, but smaller groups can have their private space, too. And plenty of room for sleeping in, staying up late, or napping. The location of the home is quiet and private.

We had several questions during our stay. The local manager was easily reached and very helpful.

The well-equipped kitchen accommodated multiple chefs and the two refrigerators and cupboards had room for all our groceries. We used the grill on the back patio several times and frequently ate on the front deck overlooking the big lake.

We spent several days visiting parks up the coast and spent a night at a great drive-in movie theatre - a first for some of our group. We had a great dinner in town and enjoyed walking through Onekama one afternoon while others played golf just north of town.

We rented paddle boards and kayaks for the week and a few of us even paddled from the Lake Michigan beach, through the channel, to the Portage Lake beach. As the wooden boat fanatic in the group, I paddled around Portage Lake with my big lens in a kayak, capturing mid-century Chris Craft and Century power boats, some beautiful yawls and ketches, and even a bald eagle. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was two sailing cruises out on Lake Michigan on the 36ft Phoenix, which is berthed just down the road on the little lake.

In summary a great spot for you and yours!
