About Jim Humphrey

I am a retired custom home builder. We searched and searched for just the right location and there is none better for privacy and seclusion. We built the main house in 1994 and added the Casita approximately in 2004.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Since there are 4 of us here, I thought I'd throw in my personal entry.

This is my 5th time here and it just keeps getting better. Nice knowing where everything is. The weather was incredible. Seven days of blue sky and 80 degrees. I finally got to bring out my rifle and managed to hit targets at 1000 yds. We drove out north of Camp Wood. Great time by all. Thanks for everything.

A desert escape

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect. The view from the back yard is just breathtaking. The sunrise and sunsets are unreal. It was alive with quail, coyotes, hummingbirds, and all sorts of desert creatures. The saguaro cacti are enormous. The house is beautifully decorated, and very clean. Jim is the best! The petroglyphs, which are in the backyard, are a must see! We rented a utv and had the best time. We saw a ghost town and some Indian ruins. We also drove up to the Grand Canyon. That was a nice day trip. Sedona isn’t far away from here either. It’s amazing there! This little town now has a peice of my heart. Thank you Jim for your hospitality. This place really is a gem! Love from Franklin, Tennessee❤️

The best kept secret casita in Arizona!

  • 5 of 5

Jim Is most accommodating host providing the guests with a very well equipped kitchen and lovely furnishings in the southwestern style. The backyard is walled and backs up to the mountains in the Tonto National Forest. The views can not be more spectacular. On top of that, you can sit in the backyard jacuzzi and watch the moon come out and listen to the beautiful singing coyotes. You can hike a long trail directly behind the house that leads to the mountains. New River is a great location since you are in the center of the state and can access many places. There is nothing better than staying in your home from home casita in order the fully experience the desert. A hotel would never compare to this luxury. Once you get bit, you will keep coming. Plenty of room for 4 people and gives lots of privacy. I have stayed in many casitas over the years and this one is TOPS. 5+ stars for this paradise.

Excellent casita - highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the casita for 5 nights and had an excellent time - was perfect for our needs, and location was EXCELLENT. Enjoyed the hiking right outside of property and grilling out in the evenings. Lake Pleasant and ATV rentals were a short drive away. Couldn't have asked for a better spot to enjoy the 1st part of our vacation. Thanks again, Jim!

Tranquil Desert Retreat with Enchanting Mountain Views

  • 5 of 5

Spectacular setting on the fringe of Tonto National Forest. Morning sunrises are spectacular. Fauna and flora in abundance both on the property and in the surrounding landscape. Hike out the back door or a short drive away in the TNP or the nearby regional parks such as Cave Creek RG, Spur Cross ranch RP, and the Sonoran Preserve.

Casita is very clean, well stocked and comfortable. Plenty of storage for clothes. Outside features a deck with spectacular views of desert landscape and nearby hills. Great spot to watch the sun rise and the night sky. The quiet is captivating.

Yard is beautifully landscaped with numerous plants and cacti. The birds apparently find it as inviting as we did - hummingbirds, families of quail, assorted wrens and woodpeckers. Many cacti were in bloom when we visited in early May.

The internet connection is surprisingly strong - as good, if not better, than we had in the middle of nearby Scottsdale and Phoenix. Can't comment on the TV reception because we never turned it on ---too much to watch and listen for outside - day and night.

All furnishings were comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with anything you could need.

Jim, the host, was accessible, responsive, and welcoming but never intrusive.

We would definitely return to this rental.
