Overview

About the property

THE HOME

Enjoy country life in "THE CLERMONT", a beautiful home on 3+ acres on a quiet lane with views of horses, barns and rolling fields. The property has a sunny garden, majestic old trees, sweeping front porch and is just 2 hours from Manhattan. It's a quiet and lovely country setting, yet close to quaint villages, restaurants and entertainment.

This Arts & Crafts style home was built in 1912 and is a classic and comfortable country home. It has buttery wood floors, large leaded glass windows, original hardware and handsome fireplace and columns - but now has modern amenities like central air conditioning, brand new kitchen, WiFi and Internet TV loaded with Netflix films, Hulu TV and more. Perfect for a romantic getaway or gathering of family and friends.

Our home is ideal for 4 people in terms of living space, bathrooms etc. There are 3 private bedrooms, two with queens and one full-sized futon. In addition the master has an adjoining room that was formerly a nursery with a full size futon and window, (3 1/2 bedrooms total, sleeps 4 adults and 1 child).

We love to watch the 'world go by' from our inviting front porch which overlooks rolling fields on a quiet country lane. You can BBQ or lounge in the landscaped garden with peonies and hydrangeas and majestic old trees. Walk down to the horse fencing at the edge of our property and visit our neighbor's horses - 15 magnificent Belgian's that show in local fairs and parades. Cycle over winding country roads and pass barns, country markets and animals including unexpected ones like Llama, Ostrich and Buffalo!

THE AREA

We are a mile North from the town of Red Hook border in bucolic Clermont, and a lovely bike ride to the Villages of Germantown and Tivoli.

--The quaint villages of TIVOLI and GERMANTOWN are 5 minutes away or a lovely 3-4 mile bike ride on scenic lanes.

--RED HOOK is small town America at it's best and is a 10 minute drive to farm markets, movies and all the services you might need.

--We are 20 minutes in either direction from RHINEBECK shops and restaurants or fabulous antiquing in HUDSON with over 50 shops in a few block radius.

--Swim in beautiful LAKE TAGHANIC 20 minutes away with 2 sandy beahes, picnicing, boat rental and more.

--Hike, mountain bike and rock scramble at magnificent MOHONK or MINNEWASKA 40 minutes south and visit charming New Paltz on the way out.

--INSIDERS TIP: Other local favorites of ours include the cool little town of Tivoli, killer Skizza's at GiGi's, $6.50 first run movies in Red Hook and Holy Cow ice cream with throwback prices, our very own Clermont Winery tasting room, all the hidden gems at Bard beyond the magnificent Performing Arts Center, swimming in the local pond, country breakfast at the Historic Diner in Red Hook, gourmet Otto's Market and Gaskin's farm-to-table in Germantown and pick your own everything at Greig Farm.

About LYN

I am a native New Yorker who discovered the Hudson Valley years ago when I was looking for a quiet escape from the pressures of a career in advertising. Our family spent many summers and weekends here enjoying country life. Now that the kids are older it's a pleasure to share our home and all our favorite places with you!

Why LYN chose Hudson Valley

This area is so close to the city, yet it's truly another world up here - small town America at it's best. First we fell in love with the tiny town of Tivoli, then realized what a gem it was to have Bard in our backyard. Our playground are the towns of Rhinebeck and Red Hook and we also spend a lot of time hiking and skiing the Catskills. Our little hamlet of Germantown is no longer a well kept secret, according to the New York Times October 26, 2016: "A vibrant upstate New York town, set against a quaint backdrop". Google it and you'll see!

What makes this farmhouse unique

We fell in love with this home the moment we saw it - built by hand 100 years ago with oak trees from the property, this was a wedding gift from a man to his wife. It's a handsome house with a really warm and comforting vibe, views of big Belgian horses, majestic old trees and a classic country porch where we watch the 'world go by'.

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely cottage! The owner's descriptions are accurate and up-to-date. Lyn provides excellent information about the local area, including nearby shops and historic venues. The house is very well-equipped. I especially appreciated the wonderful kitchen and dining room. Bedrooms are comfortable and cozy. Highly recommended!

Peaceful Country Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home overlooking farm land. We liked watching the horses out grazing as the sun set. The house has everything you need and lots of charm. Great front porch and screened in back porch. My son loved the tiny picnic table on the porch. Lots of options for relaxing inside or out. The views of the mountains and farms in the surrounding area are amazing. We enjoyed a stop at a vineyard just down the road. The home owner, Lyn, was very easy to work with, had great communications and a nice list of options of places to visit nearby. Not too far from Rhinebeck. Way better than staying in any hotel in the area. I would definitely recommend a visit. We hope to return next year!

Serene country getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home, beautifully situated in a peaceful spot. Its best feature is two great porches: the charming front porch and a screened-in back porch for dining. It is well-equipped and beautifully maintained. We know and love the area, which offers wonderful produce and restaurants, hiking and historic attractions. We actually loved the Martin Van Buren home on a rainy day! Note that the house is designed to be used with central AC in the summer so is not ideal for those who like to sleep with fresh air.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely review and for the window note - we like to hear comments that make our guest stays more comfortable! Though central AC is a blessing in the humid summer, more than half our windows have been left with screens behind the storms for those who enjoy fresh air. Thanks for giving us the idea to help guests more easily discover which of the 15 windows do open. We added a section to the "Welcome Book" noting where they are and a pre-arrival choice for the storms to be positioned up for easy access. We also agree that the two porches add to the relaxing vibe of the home, glad you enjoyed them so much, We hope to welcome you back! -LYN

Lovely Weekend Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Two couples rented this home for a weekend because our friends were getting married 5 minutes away in Germantown. It is a lovely, comfortable home with a great backyard! I especially appreciated being able to do my laundry there since I had been away for a week beforehand :)

Lyn is super friendly and provided lots of ideas of what to do in the area. We ended up spending time in Tivoli for dinner, had a great breakfast in Red Hook, and picked berries and asparagus nearby. Great trip! I'd definitely recommend!

Bard graduation weekend

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented this house in the country for our son's graduation from Bard College. This is a private and quiet location in the country, but you can easily access the best of the Hudson River Valley from here. Bard, Tivoli, Rhinebeck, Hudson. Great central location for exploring that area. The house feels like you're home - a well-equipped kitchen, the beds are very comfortable, and don't even get me started on the wonderful porches and views. We were very happy here.

Owner's Response: Our aim is for guests to feel as comfortable here as if this was their own home, so that's the best compliment we could hear. Glad you were able to relax on the two porches, which is without doubt our favorite part too. Congratulations again on the new grad in the family!

Beautiful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a weekend in mid October, as a getaway and a chance to explore the Hudson valley area. The house is lovely, extremely spacious and beautifully decorated with attention to detail. We felt at home right away and didn't want to leave! The house is located on a quiet street and sitting on the front porch looking at the leaves change color was our favorite time of the day. Location was convenient to the neighboring charming towns of it tivoli, red hook ,which we loved. The owners were very professional and responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. They were also sweet to leave us a beautifully wrapped bottle of local wine upon our arrival. We loved our stay and can't wait to come back.
