I am a native New Yorker who discovered the Hudson Valley years ago when I was looking for a quiet escape from the pressures of a career in advertising. Our family spent many summers and weekends here enjoying country life. Now that the kids are older it's a pleasure to share our home and all our favorite places with you!
Why LYN chose Germantown
This area is so close to the city, yet it's truly another world up here - small town America at it's best. First we fell in love with the tiny town of Tivoli, then realized what a gem it was to have Bard in our backyard. Our playground are the towns of Rhinebeck and Red Hook and we also spend a lot of time hiking and skiing the Catskills. Our little hamlet of Germantown is no longer a well kept secret, according to the New York Times: "A vibrant upstate New York town, set against a quaint backdrop". Google it and you'll see!
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We fell in love with this home the moment we saw it - built by hand 100+ years ago with oak trees from the property, this was a wedding gift from a man to his wife. It's a handsome house with a really warm and comforting vibe, views of big Belgian horses, majestic old trees and a classic country porch where we watch the 'world go by'.

What a charming country home. It was so nice to sit outside on the porch and have our coffee. It was conveniently located near the wedding venue so made it easy to go back and forth.
Lovely weekend in Germantown
Beautiful property in a bucolic hamlet in southern columbia county. The house is well equipped and charming. The location is perfect for exploring both Germantown and surrounding areas. It is quiet, beautiful, and ideal for a getaway. Germantown, while very small, is sophisticated and charming. We loved Tivoli, Hudson, and an outing to Art Omi -- all nearby and easy to get to. The owner of the house is really helpful, responsive and welcoming. A great weekend!
The porches are fabulous!
We had a wonderful time at your beautiful home. We wanted for nothing, and I believe we left it in fine shape. The first night was a little chilly, as it turned out, the house warmed up nicely and we kicked off them extra blanket. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was wonderful. The kitchen is well equipped and the porches are fabulous! We took home inspiration for our garden and fond memories. Thank you!
Thank you for all the recommendations!
That was very sweet if you to leave us wine & s’mores, my girls were thrilled! We also visited Hawthorne Valley Farm as you suggested. Thank you so much for all of the info, it was so helpful!
We hope to come back next September!
We loved sitting in your backyard , listening to the birds, smelling the woods, and just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed your precious farmhouse and spectacular property!!!! Thanks for all the fantastic suggestions. As for the guitar, I was so happy you had one for me to play, and thank you for the reimbursement for the guitar strings.
We loved waking up every day to the quiet beauty, the horses and the country road. Our hope is to come back next year again in September so we will let you know if we are able to pull it off. Many thanks, we had a fabulous time!
The proximity to Bard is so convenient!
We had a few gorgeous mornings drinking coffee on your porch. Your place has been wonderful and the proximity to Bard so convenient, we had the best stay!
You thought of so many details, we had everything we needed and more to enjoy our stay. My husband says to be sure let you know that the Chardonnay you left was a very nice wine. The house is great and and the detailed instructions in the book on the kitchen table were excellent. We hope to be back to your lovely home when we return to the college. Thanks so much for everything!
