Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed out time at Decked Out on lovely Lake Lure. The home is well built and well cared for. Of course the Lake is great for recreation and the location is convenient to Chimney Rock, Flat Rock Playhouse and Asheville. Thankful for time away.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed the first week of June and really enjoyed the place. Lake Lure had endured weeks of heavy rains, with rock and mud slides. The town worked hard to restore the area to it's pristine condition. Have come to Lake Lure for many years, but first time at "Decked Out". Pictures of home are true to life and there is plenty of space with comfortable furnishings. Porch is a great area for relaxing or eating meals and kitchen is large enough for multiple cooks. Steps to the boathouse have several landings making it easy for going up and down. Having access to the pontoon boat is really nice and so much better than having to rent from the marina. House is located in a quiet cove just off the "big" water. (Two teenage girls never complained of being bored!) So much to do in the lake area and be sure to ride over to Hendersonville to check out the historic area and good eating! This could definitely be the place we'll plan to stay.

Horrible customer service but a great house and location

  • 3 of 5

I booked this property in October 2017 for a wedding this past weekend and while the house was spotless and the location and view incredible, I would never stay here again based on my experience with the management company. From the start, their email responses were abrupt and lacking in explanation. I was also lead to believe we would be able to use the pontoon boat during our stay, but after much back and forth, we realized that wasn't the case. I have stayed on Lake Lure before and plan to return for years to come with my family, but I will never book a house through Exclusive Mountain Properties again.

Owner's Response: These guests were told in October, when they booked the property, that pontoon boats are NOT available until after April 15th. That is stated clearly on our website, and on the Rental Agreement that they signed. They did express a real desire to use the pontoon boat, and I made the mistake of telling them that I would try my best to make that happen. Apparently, they took that to mean it was a done deal. There a numerous reasons that we do not guarantee boats to guests until April 15th every year, most of which are beyond our control. The lake is lowered by 8 feet in the winter months for people to work on their boathouses, sea walls, etc., and bringing the lake back up to full pond not only required closing the dam, but it's very dependent on the amount of rain we have. Once the lake has returned to full pond, then boats have to be pulled out to be serviced. Again, the timing on that is beyond our control, as we have one marine service center here, to service all boats on Lake Lure. And finally, once boats have been serviced, the Town of Lake Lure will issue the proper commercial permits for the boats to be put on the water. All of this information was given to the guests every other week when they emailed us about the "promised" pontoon boat, so my responses to them did become abrupt. They knew before they got here that the boat would not be available to them, but when the boat was returned to the boathouse after having been serviced, they apparently thought that was the "sign" they'd been waiting for and began calling for the keys to the boat. We did try to explain that we still had to get the Town Permits, and that since it was Friday, we would not be able to get those until Monday. Never, again, will I, or anyone in this office, tell a guest that we will try to have a pontoon boat available for them before April 15th. Definitely our mistake!!!

Beautiful and clean cabin but a few issues...

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is as advertised in all the pictures...beautiful, rustic and clean. Melissa is easy to work with and the location is a nice, out-of-the-way, spot on the lake.

That being said, there were a few issues.

1. As others have mentioned, the trees really need to be trimmed so there is a better view of the lake.

2. We had a major storm during our stay and we had two leaks. One leak was in a bottom bathroom and was attracting numerous bugs which freaked out the user downstairs. Management was called. A handyman was sent. However, he said he would bring bug spray, but never did.

3. There must be other issues with the roof because mold is evident on the wood ceilings in the living room and the master bath. This was brought to the handyman's attention when he came. This needs to be rectified ASAP.

4. The boat's engine only worked on our first attempt. For our second attempt to use the boat, the engine could not start and we notified the boatmaster. We were told someone would come the next day to look at or fix the engine. We were out and don't know if anyone came, but the engine did not work on a third attempt the day before we left.

Wonderful House at Lake Lure!!

  • 4 of 5

Loved staying here. Quiet and Peaceful. Pontoon boat was wonderful to have and great views from dock. Trees have grown so that view from house is very limited. Very clean! Would definitely stay here again!

My brother and I rented for our families to spend vacation together since the loss of our mother earlier in 2016. We had a fantastic stay. The house is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The boat house and deck area was wonderful, we spent several hours each day floating in the lake while the kids jumped from atop the boat house. In the evenings we took advantage of the pool table and great decks on the house. I can't wait until we can return and stay here again. This will be our new go to vacation spot for the summer! The only minor issue we experienced was the internet was not working due to issues beyond the owners control. The owners felt bad that we had to be without the internet so they refunded one nights stay for the inconvenience, which was more than necessary in my opinion, but greatly appreciated. Again, a wonderful vacation for all of us!!!
