About Chris Nee

I live in Rye, NH and grew up in Darien, CT. I went to Temple University and currently work as a Senior Director at Oppenheimer.

Chris Nee purchased this house in 2000

Why Chris Nee chose Mid-Coast & Islands

When i grew up in Ct. my family vacationed in the Bristol/Damariscotta/New Harbor area. My parents retired in Damariscotta (5 miles from my lake house). This area is the best of both worlds....lake front and 5 minutes from the ocean. The fishing on the lake is incredible. You will catch bass, pickerel and trout all day long. You can take a ride down the road to New Harbor and see the incredible coastline. You can hop on a ferry and take a day trip to Monheghan Island (My favorite place in the whole world). You can drive 8 minutes into Damariscotta and eat at some of my favorite restaurants in the US. Or you can just relax and listen to the loons or watch the bald eagles fish.

What makes this house unique

In front of my house is a private island that has 2 docks. You can use my canoe or kayak. You can paddle on the lake or on either side is a stream. One stream goes all the way to the ocean.

Great lakeside property with plenty of space for a large family.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house in July of 2017 and had a lovely time. We had only 7 people but used four of the bedrooms. With three full baths there was never any wait for the toilet or the shower. The house was just as pictured, clean and in good condition. Our kids loved the downstairs bedroom which is full of toys! We did not use the pool table or ping pong in the basement which was a bit musty. Also, remember that there is no AC at the house and bring box fans for the windows. It cools off at night but you'll want the fans to cool your room.

The location on Boyd Pond is excellent! The lake is very peaceful, with no motorized craft. The kayak and canoe available for renters' use are both in good condition and very fun. Make sure to explore the beaver dam down river to the southern end of the lake!

Be aware that insects can be annoying at the lake. We had many encounters with biting flies, and mosquitoes came out at night. These are to be expected of course, but worth planning for. Also, we had a leech attach itself to one member of our party. I'm sure they are every rare, but watch out for standing in the mud and muck where such creatures live.

The location is very quiet, but that does mean you need to drive to get anywhere. It's about 15 minutes to Damariscotta, where shopping and restaurants are plentiful. In about 40 minutes you can be in Boothbay Harbor where whale watches leave. In about 20 minutes you can reach Pemaquid Point, which is very much worth a visit for the historic light house and to clamber on the rocks and look at tide pools. Try to come at low tide!

A great rental and very reasonably priced! Highly recommended.

Great location, with something for everyone

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth trip to Maine, and by far the best location that we have experienced. The kayak and canoe that came with the rental were a big hit. The kids caught many fish from the dock, and enjoyed swimming in the lake. The house was spacious enough for our two families totaling 12, and everyone was able to sit and enjoy their lobster dinners at the big table together. There is fishing equipment for renters to use, toys for kids, and a pool table and ping pong table in the basement.

We took many Day trips from the lake house, Boothbay Harbor, South Bristol, Round Pond, Newcastle-Damariscotta, Waldoboro, Bath, Augusta, Camden, Acadia, Bar Harbor (2:30hrs), Freeport, Reid State Park, Popham Beach State Park, Port Clyde, Pemaquid lighthouse, Portland, and Boston (3hrs). It was a busy two weeks. We loved our stay!

comfortable, spacious, beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

My extended family stayed here for a week in June and we had the pond to ourselves (it's a big pond by the way). Total privacy and plenty of space inside the house and outdoors for all of us (6 adults, 3 kids). There is something for everyone--fishing (poles and gear provided), kayaking and canoeing (also provided), a dock to hang out on, screened in porch, nice washer and dryer, a cabinet full of board games, a basement with ping pong and pool table, fast internet, and a kitchen full of everything needed to cook for this crew. Also, two huge tvs (tho we actually never even turned them on because there was so much else to do). I hope we can stay here again. I recommend staying here if you want to be away from it all and also if you have a large group with a variety of ages.

Relaxing private area with beautiful large home.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a short 4 days and enjoyed every second of our time in this comfy, yet large, home. We fished, shopped, went on walks along trails on the property and the local area. Took a day trip over to Monhegan Island - it was GLORIOUS! I finally heard the loons on my last night there. Another item off my bucket list. We ate at King Eiders Pub one night and I had their fantastic Seafood Pot Pie. Wish we'd had more time to spend in the area. Maybe someday we will return, I'd like to think so. Thank you for opening up your home so that others can enjoy the incredible beauty of the Bristol area.

A Wonderful Family Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our week of vacation, and would like to recommend both the house and the location. In the past we have rented houses that were less to our liking or needs than the pictures conveyed. We were delighted with this house in every way. Our children and grandchildren came, but with six adults and four little ones we still had plenty of space. The three bathrooms and five bedrooms were so helpful. The fifth bedroom on the downstairs level was set up as a playroom, and the children played happily with toys that were new to them. The kitchen, dining and living room were open and very inviting, and the table was big enough for all of us. The setting is very private, and the path over the bridge to the little island is beautiful. Even on rainy days, the lake was lovely. The houses on the lake are secluded, making the shore line appear untouched except for an occasional dock projecting into the water. We enjoyed the canoe and kayak, and explored the lake and inlets. On sunny days, we visited Pemiquid Beach and Shaw's, which were quite close by. I could mention more, I am sure, but we do hope to return in the future.
