Escape to the North Carolina Mountains this summer in this 3800 square foot home with 5 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths. Great for family gatherings. Lots of space.

The Black Bear Den is located at the end of the cul-de-sac in the small private development of 'The Village at Winding Stairs' and gets its name from the large Black Bear that sits atop the ledge in the foyer.
This Cabin has 5 bedrooms, 4 1/2 bathrooms and gas fireplaces. This is a true mountain home built with hand hewn logs and old barn wood.
On the main level, the cozy kitchen opens up to the rustic dining room and den area. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for that big family dinner. The dining room will seat 8 at the table and 2 at the bar.
The master bedroom is also on the main level with a full bathroom. A twin bedroom is located on the main level as well.
The outdoor deck looks out over the woodsy backyard with mountain views. The deck is equipped with a gas grill and seating for grilling and relaxing.
In the loft, the kids or adults can enjoy 2 twin beds plus a Queen bed with a private bathroom.
The basement level has 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms. In the center of the basement is a large den area with a gas fireplace and card table. The basement also has a laundry room and outside deck.
The Fire Pit is great for night-time fun. Don't forget your marshmellows and S'mores ingredients!

The owners of the Black Bear Den Mountain Cabin live in the surrounding counties of Burke, Catawba and Mecklenburg. We also own vacation rentals in Beech Mountain and Banner Elk. All furnishings in the cabin come from Lindy's Furniture, a family business we have been running since my Grandfather started in 1917.
The Black Bear Den Mountain Cabin was built from recycled materials. The local builder used old barn wood and large beams from structures in the NC area.
All 8 of us were so cozy & comfortable this weekend. Your cabin is beautiful & we will be back!
Thank You for sharing your beautiful home with us.
The WV Crew thanks you!
My friends and I recently rented this cabin for a long weekend in the woods and adored it. We loved walking around the neighborhood of cabins for our short walks, and taking off to Linville Falls for longer hikes. The back decks were perfect for taking in the beautiful fall colors, and it was great that the deck that's right off the dining room and living room was totally enclosed, so the baby could safely be out there. We also loved curling up in front of the gas log fireplace and "watching movies" (napping) while we waited for the baby to wake up so we could go for another hike.
The kitchen had plenty of space to cook ridiculous meals for 9, and was well stocked with equipment, though we did bring our own baking pans for birthday cake making at the owners recommendation, and were glad we did.
All of the beds and showers were given solid thumbs up by their respective occupants, and the upstairs living room was super comfy. We never did use the downstairs living room because that was closer to the baby's room, but were quite cozy upstairs with couches and chairs for most of us, and blankets and pillows for whoever wanted to stretch out by the fire.
The fire pit out front was lovely, and well used that weekend. There were lots of little extras - a baby gate, much appreciate since the stairs to the downstairs were right by the kitchen and living room, a panini press which got much play, an adorable giant stuffed raccoon (Trash Panda), who became our mascot for the weekend, lots of magazines and dvds (though we did have to move the downstairs dvd player upstairs since the upstairs one didn't seem to be working). The dishwasher worked well and was great to have for such a large group, though we did need to run out for detergent and a fresh sponge. The house was really well insulated and obviously very well built, stayed cozy and warm just from the gas log fireplace - on the last day we read the instruction to turn the thermostat back down to 60 and realized we had never turned it up! The only even remote con to the house was the proximity to the road which wound through the pass below the house - you could hear the wind through the trees in between cars, but the car noise was pretty frequent, and the occasional truck was definitely noticeable. Only audible from the deck, though - the inside was totally quiet.
Overall it felt like a home away from home, and made us all want to have a mountain cabin one day. We would DEFINITELY rent this place again!
Our family recently spent a wonderful week at the Black Bear Den. There were 11 of us, including two small boys, and the layout of the cabin is such that we all had plenty of room and privacy. The logs and old barn wood structure made for such an inviting and relaxing stay. We particularly enjoyed the fire pit in the evening. Our two great grandsons were so enthralled with roasting marshmallows and hotdogs over the fire. Having the beautiful Linville Falls, the Caverns and the Blue Ridge Parkway in such close proximity was a real plus. We were fortunate enough to visit Grandfather Mountain during the Highland Games, a special treat for our family who loves all things Celtic. The owner was so accommodating in helping us with a minor family issue. All in all, it was a week of creating memories. I have no hesitation in recommending this vacation experience to anyone.
I stayed here two years ago with six of my siblings and their spouses, and when we wanted another reunion in the NC/TN mountains, we were ecstatic that Black Bear Den was available. It is the perfect size for us - 4 comfortable bedrooms each with its own nice bath (one with a claw-foot tub), and a good-sized living and dining room. The deck has a nice view, but it could be a little bigger. The only drawback to this cabin is the noisy highway you can sometimes hear off the back deck. The landlord is very accommodating and easy to work with. We will try to come back again next year!
Our small group of grumpy, middle-aged mountain bikers has been coming to the NC mountains for years. We have stayed at friends' places and rented a number of houses in the area, some great and others not so much. Black Bear Den was, and is, special and one of the best, if not the best. The house is amazing; the interior so spacious and well laid out for a group of our size. Proximity to trails and restaurants makes the location so attractive while being far enough off the beaten path to retain the special 'mountain feel'. The exterior and surroundings make the place a rare, hard to find package that let us forget our work and rat race on arrival. We will return.
Wonderful vacation. Loved the cabin. Very clean. Looking forward to next year. Hope that the fireplaces work next time and perhaps even slow internet would help. There were no sheets on one of the small beds. There was a big dead bug in the bottom of the blender (the top of the blender was missing the part that covered the hole). Had to use towel over blender top. Some wine glasses had traces of lipstick. Other than those minor areas, everything was perfect and everyone loved the accommodations. See you next August!
My siblings gathered at Black Bear Den for several days during the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. The house provided everything we could wish for. Tastefully furnished with plenty of group gathering space and private areas for anyone who'd like a few minutes alone. Wonderful that all eight of us could sit together at the dining table. The owner made special accommodations for us which is much appreciated. Thanks for everything!
