Castle Peak Vacation Rentals
Great location, great for a big family!
Perfect cabin for big family. Everything you need is there. Beds and linens were very comfortable. Property managers were great. We would absolutely rent this cabin again.
Comfortable lake-front vacation
We really liked Lakeshore Retreat. It fit our families with a great floorplan. The main floor with spacious kitchen and entertaining area worked out perfectly for dinners, watching movies, and playing games at the two tables. Nice property!
Nice cabin with great location
Loved the lakefront location and all amenities (board games, ping pong table, kayaks, paddle-board) , spent a really nice and relaxing summer weekend with family and friends. Will probably repeat during the winter and next year's summer.
Great family and friends retreat
Nice cabin by the lake and caring provider.
Perfect location for an easy snowboarding trip
This cabin is located just minutes from the Sugarbowl Ski Resort. It made for an easy and fun weekend getting to and from the slopes with ease. With lake front views, the huge patio was our favorite place to gather. There was plenty of room to relax inside, as well. It was quiet, clean, cozy and comfortable. We will definitely be coming back!
Beautiful view, but.....
The cabin was reasonably clean, somewhat dated, about what you'd expect for a cabin which allows dogs. Very roomy. Beautiful view of the lake. I've never stayed somewhere with actual wood shingles as walls in a bedroom (must have been a converted porch). Stairs are very steep inside the house--be careful!
However, the air intake grills are choked with dust. And I had to spend 15 minutes cleaning the inside of the coffeemaker of years of thick grey encrusted grime before using.
The mattresses were very worn and uncomfortable, aside from the queen, which has a mattress topper and was quite comfortable.
There is a large cross on the wall in the living/dining area, which may be disconcerting to the non-Christians. Also a heavy metal and wood sled over the dining table, which fell on two different diners, cutting clothing.
The capper was being evacuated at 12 noon by the Fire Department, due to a propane leak next door; evacuation thought to be needed at least thru the weekend. My daughter was wailing, sure we were going to blow up.
Sue Busby helped to find us a place to move to, which was supposed to be able to house our 2 families. However, after we unpacked (including by now spoiling food, and having stripped sheets) in the much smaller cabin, we found that what were supposed to be queens were actually fulls, one mattress was unusable, and not enough bed space for our 2 families. Then, we got a call around 4:30 the original cabin was cleared for re-entry, so we moved back in and remade beds AGAIN, only to find as dusk fell there was no power. We contacted the utility co, but no power still at 7:00 and hungry kids, so had to drive to Truckee to get food; $150, got back late. After discussing this with Sue and Nanette, we were offered staying two extra hours in the cabin, and $50. After voicing our distress, this was still the limit of what they/the owner could or would do for us as compensation for our experience, surprising given our many positive interactions with them with past rentals.
I believe the review system is a very helpful tool for future guest but only when both parties explain the facts truthfully.
The Lakeshore Retreat is a lovely, yes I agree, older cabin located directly on the lake. Your unwarranted scathing remarks of this very clean and comfortable cabin was astonishing to me. I believe this was caused by your anxiousness for having to relocated for a short period of time. Some people react this way and for that I am sorry. I do apologize for having to move you, but that decision was totally out of our hands. The move had to be done due to a problem in a neighboring home. Since we were fully booked that weekend the home we quickly found for you was the only home available. I was pleased that we were able to get you back into the Lakeshore Retreat as soon as we did. We understood what it took to pack and unpack that is why we offered you and your family to stay as long as you wanted on your departure day instead of sticking with the 11 AM check out, along with a refund.
I do wish you the best Robyn in finding the exact home that meets your specific needs in the future.
