This is a lovely cosy cottage in Thornthwaite, it is one of a row of 4 cottages, 3 of which are holiday rentals. There is parking space for one car right outside the door, which makes unpacking easy.
You enter the property straight into the kitchen, which is small but has everything you need. (although there seems to be a lack of knives for eating, but enough for 4). Its little tired but clean and has enough pots and pans.
The shower room is off the kitchen and has a good shower but can be a little cold, but the wall mounted heater soon has it toasty warm.
The lounge/dining room is well furnished and comfy, with what appears to be a fairly new sofa and very comfortable.
There is a wealth of children’s DVD's available and full Freeview TV, plenty of games in the cupboard.
The open fire needs fuel which is not provided. We found that Booth’s hardwood log bags gave us 2 nights of open fires at a reasonable price. Coal is also available at the garage in Keswick on the way in.
The two bedrooms are well furnished, the twin room is larger than the double.
The double is tight, but functional. The wardrobe does get in the way. But the bed is extremely comfortable.
The Twin is light an airy with plenty of space.
He cottage is warm, storage heaters in each room, with plenty of hot water available.
Shopping wise, Keswick is the closest town with Booths Supermarket, however Cockermouth is about 15 minutes away along the A66 and offers a Lidl and a Big Sainsburys, (cheaper then Booths), and plenty of local shops and butchers.
Overall this is a lovely little cottage and we would stay here again, it is well placed for the northern lakes.
Simple, comfy, peaceful
No WiFi or phone signal which was surprisingly welcome!
Cottage is simple and on the surface a little tired but actually very comfortable, cosy and perfect for a week away. The forest lies directly behind the house and there are a number of great walks within 30min drive.
The bathroom is downstairs and the stairs themselves are very steep, so not great for little kids or poor mobility, we had a 2 yr old and just used pillows to create a little stair gate!Travel cot is provided but could do with a travel stair gate for safety at the top.
Highly recommended though, would definitely stay again.
This cottage was in a lovely quiet location, perfect for a getaway for us and our dogs. Was well equipped and cosy and welcoming after we had done our long walks and climbs.
Quaint holiday let beautiful location great facilities easy distance to Keswick and cockermouth and on the doorstep of whinlater forest what more could you need
We had a lovely time in this cottage. It had every thing you need and more. The surroundings are just stunning including the vistas and nearby waterfall. Would recommend it to anyone! Thanks for making this place such a lovely refuge full of hearts!
Cottage fine for a short stay as a base in Lakes. Could do with some redecoration & reorganisation (silly set up in 'double' bedroom with wardrobe not easily accessible) but was good price, so I guess you get what you pay for.
Had everything you needed, but was small & bathroom was downstairs, directly off kitchen. Staircase was steep & curved with a low ceiling at the bottom, so not great for anyone elderly or with mobility issues. Living room furniture & overall decor reminded me of an old peoples care home but as we spent most of our time outdoors, didn't matter too much.
Good location to explore Lakes but nothing much in the immediate area, i.e shops etc, but Keswick only a short car journey away for all your necessities.
