About Donna
We LOVE the quiet natural beauty of this area and we find it a very restful get away from our hectic chaotic lifestyle plus we enjoy the modern & comfortable lodge-like feeling of this home. When we are here we go 'off schedule', reading, napping & watching the 'river parade' and doing whatever suits us whenever we feel like it.
Donna purchased this House in 1995
Why Donna chose Cowlitz County
So many of the homes along the river are jammed together but this great place sits on over 4 acres, is nestled in the trees and feels secluded and private.

Excellent
Place was beautiful.just as described and tons to do around the area.
Wonderful and relaxing, sad we had to go home!
There are so many great places to sit and read at this house: the nest chair downstairs, the oversized chairs upstairs, or out on the fabulous deck. I even found a book I wanted to read (Christopher Moore!). We used this house as our home base for 4 whole days, and wish we could have stayed longer. It was the perfect place to sit and relax, or to use as a base to go out and explore during the day. There are many outdoor activities within easy driving distance, and Portland was not too far for a day trip, either. The riverbank below the house is steep, but my husband and daughter and I make the trek a couple of times. It's definitely not a trek to attempt if you are anything other than a sure-footed mountain goat, however! If you want to get to the river more easily, go back across the bridge and down to one of the parks along the road (you will need a Discover Pass to park there, but you can easily get one from the liquor store in downtown Kalama). Also note that if you want to do any fishing on the river, you will need barbless hooks (bring some, or get them from the trailer/camping park down next to highway 5). Donna was on point with sending check-in information, and although there was no problem with our stay, I did text her twice during our stay (to let her know when we arrived - and were greeted by the neighborhood orange/white cat - and to let her know we had departed), and received prompt responses from her. I hope we get another chance to go back to Peace of the River- soon!
Quiet and relaxing location . Relatively close to various historical sites.
The location and facilities were very good. Unfortunately, the Steelhead fishing was terrible -worst run in 40 years. Columbia river was closed to fishing for Steelhead. We did manage to catch one King Salmon ( about 40 lbs), and did enjoy fly fishing the smaller streams - still did not catch very much. Hot weather and too many tubers on the streams.
Homey Retreat
As soon as we stepped through the front door, we knew we had chosen well. Beautiful, peaceful, homey. Wished we could have stayed longer.
John B...Thank you so much for your lovely review! We work hard so our guests can have a nice experience at "Peace of the River" and we're so glad that it worked out for your group.
Hope to see you back again!
Great place on the river.
We had a fun a relaxing trip. Good fishing right across the river.
We appreciate your great review! We work hard to see that our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable vacation experience.
"Peace of the River", Just What the Doctor Ordered!!
I would like to say that the time we spent at the property appropriately know as, "Peace of the River", was so relaxing not to mention great way and place to be to unwind. The house overlooks the Kalama River and the balcony with a great view of the river is breathtaking. The house is equipped by the owners with literally everything you would need to have a very comfortable stay. The property is peacefully secluded but access to surrounding cities off I-5 is just 15 minutes or so down the road. We actually expected that we would go into town for meals but found it hard to leave the house as it was so comfortable. We completely suggest that you bring food for prep or reheating at the house because once you come in from being out and about, a meal in a restaurant that would be nice at any other time, doesn't hold a candle to staying in and enjoying the scenery. We definitely plan to be back for our summer fishing trip. Thank you to the owners of this vacation house for your overall hospitality and ensuring we had all we needed for a great stay.

Location
We often see herons fishing the shoals below, eagles flying overhead and once we saw an elk herd on the ridge across the river! And as noted by VRBO...Relax and Unwind in Southwest Washington. The scenic area of southwest Washington offers breathtaking scenery, sandy beaches, small port towns and all the activities of the Northern Cascade Mountains close by. The area is known for its fertile estuaries and centuries-old landmarks. Charted by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in 1805, southwest Washington was considered the most desirable area to settle west of the Rocky Mountains. It now offers a delightful escape from city life for vacationers looking to relax and enjoy the spectacular local scenery.
