About Marge Moriarty

This vacation home is owned by Dick and Marge Moriarty. Dick grew up in Renovo and moved away, but we have always made our second home in Renovo. We are semi-retired and love to travel. We hope this gives us a better understanding for what travelers look for when renting a vacation home. We have stayed in many vacation rentals over the years. Dick is retired from a long banking career and now serves as Mayor of Millersville, Pa and volunteers for various community organizations. I continue to work part time as a psychotherapist at an outpatient psychiatric clinic in Lancaster, Pa. The Manse is our second home and we enjoy spending some weekends and holidays here.... we are excited to share it with others!!!

Marge Moriarty purchased this house in 2011

Why Marge Moriarty chose Renovo

This home is filled with history and holds many fond memories to many of the locals. It sat empty for years...and we had our eye on it, hoping someday to bring her back to life. The house is a fun structure with the detailed woodwork, elaborate stair cases, and large living area and wonderful covered front porch. We hope to continue to make improvements as time goes on....but she is ready to impress you with her beauty and comfort!

This is a great place for the weekend getaway. It can also be the perfect place to host family and friends for reunions, showers, wakes/funeral gatherings (our family recently used it for this purpose and it was wonderful), wine & cheese parties, corporate events. So many options!

Renovo is a quaint town with a long rail road history. Our claim to fame is the annual Flaming Foliage Festival the second full week every October. The Susquehanna River has canoe access ramp just down the street and at other points nearby. Bring your kayak or fishing boat and put in just a couple of blocks away. Visit Heritage Park and learn about the history of the CCC camps and other local history. Enjoy the nearby lakes, streams, state parks, Artisan Trail and so much more.

It is a perfect launching point for viewing elk in Benezette, hiking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hang gliding from Hyner View, biking, ATV trails, geocaching, astrophotography, hunting, fishing, birding, rock collecting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, antiquing.

We are located on a busy main street which offers lots of people watching and the bustle of lots of traffic (and traffic noise). If it is the quiet outdoors you want you may want to look elsewhere. We love the activity of community and the opportunity to chat with locals.

What makes this house unique

Gorgeous home, centrally located, perfect for those who love nature but do not like camping!!!! A little luxury in the PA Wilds!!!!!

Cool house!!

We very much enjoyed our stay! The house was well furnished and stocked. The rooms were spacious and clean. Marge was very easy to work with. It felt like we were visiting grandma's house (in a good way)!!

Wonderful Accommodations!

  • 4 of 5

The Manse accommodated 6 adults well and was perfect for our needs. Renovo is a rural hamlet, like many of the small townships, in the Sproul and Susquehannock State Forest Area. The area has experienced more prosperous days. This was a perfect area for relaxing day trips on motorcycle. ATV, bicycle, kayak, or hiking shoe, as well as self-catered family meals. If you are searching for urban renewal and boutique foodie experiences, this area will not satisfy those desires.

Owner's Response: So glad we could provide a place for your adventures! Definitely not a foodie paradise! We always bring our good cheeses and other specialty food items with us when we stay there! It is beautiful country indeed! Thank you for your business!

A sight for sore eyes.

  • 5 of 5

The Manse is one of those houses you wish to just take with you when you go. They don't make them like that any more. Truly comfortable place; furniture is amazing; furnishing (more than you can possibly need) are all there. You awaken and look out at the clouds hugging the mountains and sigh. The road noise is the only distraction. Somewhat surprising for such a small community, but it sure wouldn't give us any second thoughts about returning. We are hoping to do just that. Thank you so much, Marge!

The Manse was a perfect choice.

  • 5 of 5

Renovo was centrally located for our needs and the Manse was perfect. Clean, spacious and well-equipped, staying there was a joy. Marge was very helpful with advice on local interests and we would definitely book again if we were in the area.

Old School Charm

  • 5 of 5

The Manse is a beautiful home that the owners preserved a lot of the original character of the home. It was a very comfortable stay with a well stocked kitchen that we were able to take advantage of to prepare all our food. The house is enourmous and would be great for family get-togethers or vacations. We enjoyed sitting out on the front porch and watched the cars and people go by. It is about a 10 min. drive to get to some awesome trails to run and hike on. Hyner View is a great spot to watch handgliders take off and fly around in the sky and also you can look down the valley for miles on a clear day. The house is on a main road so there is some road noise. We would definitley stay here again. Thanks again Marge for opening your house up to us!

Unit was as advertised. Owner available and willing to answer any question we had.. Beautiful home in a quiet town. Took some great recommended day trips that owner suggested. All in all, wonderful stay. They had everything we could have needed. Thank you. We would love to come again in later fall for the advertised festivals,!

Renovo is the perfect launching spot for a myriad of outdoor activities throughout the year. Hyner View is ground zero for hang gliding enthusiasts. Hyner also provides some of the most beautiful sights of the West Branch of Susquehanna River. You will enjoy the drive up Hyner Mountain as you switchback through the forest. For kayak and canoe enthusiasts you will find a convenient 'put in' at the Flaming Foliage Lot near the Visitor's Center.

The State Forests and game lands offer numerous hiking trails and ATV trails as well as excellent hunting and fishing. A scenic drive to the Elk Country Visitors Center in Bennezette... see the elk close up! Plenty of boating and fishing opportunities along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River as well as Kettle Creek Lake and the Sinnamahoning Lake. The lakes are set in spectacular scenery, surrounded by mountains...catch the occasional Bald Eagle! Or drive up Route 144 towards Snow will find scenic overlooks and hiking trails all along the way!

For those interested in astrophotography, Cherry Springs State Park is located just under an hour north of Renovo.

Take a day trip and follow the Pennsylvania Wilds Artisan Trail visiting various juried craftsmen/galleries throughout the vast region. Walk around Renovo and enjoy the history. Don't be afraid to go down alley ways and venture over the river to South Renovo to just explore the town. Grab an ice cream cone at Yesterday's.

Satisfy the treasure hunter in you and stop by The Rummage Shoppe on Erie Ave. Grab a meal at The Sportsman's or Yesterdays. Enjoy the bustle of a small town with the beauty of the mountains all around. Check out the history of Renovo at the Heritage Center on Erie Ave.

Another nice day trip idea...take a drive to Williamsport. It is about an easy hour drive...the drive is beautiful. You will find a wide range of activities from shopping to the arts. A little closer and on the will find Lock Haven which has a budding arts community as well. A visit to Uncle Joe's Woodshed is always a must when visiting the Lock Haven area!!!!! State College is only an hour or so away and has so much to offer!
