Overview

About the property

Leave the rush behind. Quiet getaway near Interlochen music camp on Green Lake

Looking for a quiet get-a-way? Simple and cozy, this lake-view cabin will help you create family memories.

A family owned cottage for over 35 years, this is the place to relax. Simple, but cozy, the cottage offers a gentle get-a-way from your busy life. There is a large living space with a combined kitchen, dining and living area that allows easy family gatherings. The fireplace provides an inviting setting in the evenings and the large, bright, enclosed porch is a perfect spot for dining while enjoying a view of the lake. Three bedrooms off the living area (two with a double bed, one with a single bed) plus a sleeper sofa (on the screened in porch) provide comfortable sleeping for 5-6 people. Pets are OK, but no smoking, please.

The cottage is situated on a large shaded corner lot approximately 100 feet from the lake and right across from a local community park that is available for picnic gatherings or a game of baseball or volleyball.

Lake access is less than a minute walk away through the neighborhood association’s private community park where you will find a 300 foot waterfront area that includes a 30 foot swim dock in a roped off area with a sandy bottom.

Not far away, you will find the Interlochen Center for the Arts (1.3 miles away) where you can enjoy world class performances of music, plays, dance and art exhibitions as well as free concerts from local musicians Two grocery stores are less than a five minute drive away and Traverse City (a 15 minutes drive) will provide you with all the amenities of a big city.

The Traverse City area has a wealth of places to explore, from old lighthouses, to wineries, tall ships, bike trails, canoeing, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes (the dune run is something not to miss!), the Cherry Bowl Drive-in Theater (straight out of the 1950s!) and don't forget the National Cherry Festival in July!

About Art and Becky

As a city girl from Pittsburgh, PA, Michigan was my summer home. My parents bought the home as a summer get away, a place to enjoy the music of The Interlochen Center for the Arts, spend time with family and just relax. I began bringing my children to Michigan when they were babies and they have since grown, attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts and I have been able to share my favorite activities with them; from swimming in the lake, boating, beach campfires, and of course attending Interlochen events. We currently live in Colorado, but we always try to get back to Interlochen every summer.

Art and Becky purchased this cottage in 1976

Why Art and Becky chose Northwest

This cottage has been in the family for over 40 years. For over three generations we have enjoyed family reunions and vacations. Start your own tradition and bring your family up to norther Michigan for a holiday.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is a great gathering place. Its large kitchen-dining-living area welcomes people to relax and socialize. The large screened in porch offers a perfect spot for an evening meal or a cool spot to sleep while being serenaded by the lake loons.

Peaceful getaway

  • 4 of 5

We spent a three day weekend for drop-off at camp. Furnishings are outdated but the place is very comfortable and feels spacious with the enclosed porch. Bathroom is tiny but big enough to take care of business. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, utensils and cookware. There’s no way to know how long the spices have been in the cupboard so we bought our own. Caretaker lives across the road. He is friendly and responsive. Next door neighbors were also very lovely to meet when we arrived.

We enjoyed the park across the street with basketball hoop and there is easy lake access very close by. It would be great if there was wifi. We occasionally needed internet and our phone signals were pretty weak, but there are places to go not too far away where you can get connected. I like it that there's no TV. We did make use of the radio.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Cozy Lake Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this charming lake house! We were in town for the Paddle for Pints brewery tour in Traverse City for a bachelorette party and were in need of a cozy house to relax for the rest of the evening. Art & Becky were very nice to work with and Lloyd was extremely kind and helpful. When we arrived Lloyd came over to ensure we were settled in and ask if we needed anything. The lake access was wonderful and the water was super sandy and shallow.Though the house isn't directly on the lake you can still get small views of the lake and the sunrise is amazing! I highly recommend this home! Thank you for a great stay!

out dated and unsafe for small children

  • 3 of 5

The owners were very prompt to respond to every correspondence and Lloyd who looks after the property was very nice. While we really only slept here and were out all day we felt the cabin wasn't very comfortable. The beds were squishy and too soft bedrooms very small. The cabin is quite spacious in the common areas. The furniture is old and a bit warn but we were hardly inside. The screen porch was a concern with exposed wiring. We didn't have any children with us so it wasn't a problem. I wouldn't recommend this cabin if you have small children. The location is lovely! Very close to Interlochen Arts School. This cabin is in need of renovation, redoing the bathroom, making bedrooms a bit larger, finishing screen porch, then it would be worth the price we paid.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Yes, the cabin is not a modern one. It has been a traditional family summer cottage - a place to relax and get away the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We will be doing some renovations this fall so renters next spring will see some changes to the porch, bathroom and closet areas.

Very Relaxing Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This rustic retreat was a great place for us to meet up with relatives. Very quiet and very pleasant home. So grateful that the family shared it with us. The front porch is the best!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We have had many a family reunion in Interlochen. Our most memorable was our grandmother's 80th where we had over 30 relatives! (We had to rent other properties to house everyone!) Hope you have time to come back soon!
