About the property

Leave the rush behind. Quiet getaway near Interlochen music camp on Green Lake

Looking for a quiet get-a-way? Simple and cozy, this lake-view cabin will help you create family memories.

A family owned cottage for over 35 years, this is the place to relax. Simple, but cozy, the cottage offers a gentle get-a-way from your busy life. There is a large living space with a combined kitchen, dining and living area that allows easy family gatherings. The fireplace provides an inviting setting in the evenings and the large, bright, enclosed porch is a perfect spot for dining while enjoying a view of the lake. Three bedrooms off the living area (two with a double bed, one with a single bed) plus a sleeper sofa (on the screened in porch) provide comfortable sleeping for 5-6 people. Pets are OK, but no smoking, please.

The cottage is situated on a large shaded corner lot, right across from local community park that is available for picnic gatherings or a game of baseball or volleyball.

Lake access is less than a minute walk away through the neighborhood association’s private community park where you will find a 300 foot waterfront area that includes a 30 foot swim dock in a roped off area with a sandy bottom.

Not far away, you will find the Interlochen Center for the Arts (1.3 miles away) where you can enjoy world class performances of music, plays, dance and art exhibitions as well as free concerts from local musicians Two grocery stores are less than a five minute drive away and Traverse City (a 15 minutes drive) will provide you with all the amenities of a big city.

The Traverse City area has a wealth of places to explore, from old lighthouses, to wineries, tall ships, bike trails, canoeing, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes (the dune run is something not to miss!), the Cherry Bowl Drive-in Theater (straight out of the 1950s!) and don't forget the National Cherry Festival in July!

About Art and Becky

As a city girl from Pittsburgh, PA, Michigan was my summer home. My parents bought the home as a summer get away, a place to enjoy the music of The Interlochen Center for the Arts, spend time with family and just relax. I began bringing my children to Michigan when they were babies and they have since grown, attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts and I have been able to share my favorite activities with them; from swimming in the lake, boating, beach campfires, and of course attending Interlochen events. We currently live in Colorado, but we always try to get back to Interlochen every summer.

Art and Becky purchased this cottage in 1976

Why Art and Becky chose Northwest

This cottage has been in the family for over 40 years. For over three generations we have enjoyed family reunions and vacations. Start your own tradition and bring your family up to norther Michigan for a holiday.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is a great gathering place. Its large kitchen-dining-living area welcomes people to relax and socialize. The large screened in porch offers a perfect spot for an evening meal or a cool spot to sleep while being serenaded by the lake loons.

Nice place, helpful & friendly host

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay here.

Lloyd the caretaker was super friendly and helpful. Lake was beautiful. A few bugs here and there (one teabag overnight on the kitchen counter got us a few ants by the morning, and we had a few creepy crawlies in the bathroom) but it's a Michigan cabin in summer, right? Kitchen was pretty well stocked with hardware, and the place felt clean. Porch was nice to hang out in during the thunderstorms we had. Small grass park just across the road for the kiddos to play in. Beds were comfortable!

A nice location - sleeping bear dunes, Traverse City, Platte River are all 20-30 minute drives.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay - and thank you for your kind words for our house manager! The porch was one of my parent's additions back in the 80's They too loved to sit out on the porch and enjoy listening to the loons in the evening.

Not what we thought it was but ok.

Our host Lloyd was awesome. Cottage was ok but over priced for what it was.

The outside looks good, the inside, not so much

  • 2 of 5

We enjoyed the spaciousness of the cottage, the fireplace, the beautiful view of the lake, and the front porch was nice. The inside of the cottage needs a lot of updates. The bathroom was so bad I opted out of a shower for two days, not cool. It smelled very musty, there were tacky looking sticky notes everywhere. The furniture was old, the books were old, everything was OLD. the curtains were stained, the paint was peeling and the beds were so squeaky and uncomfortable. The sun shines right in the bedroom windows and the neighbors light in their backyard also, making it even more difficult to get a good night's sleep. There was no privacy between the two very small, cramped bedrooms, we stayed with friends and would have liked to be able to breathe without them hearing us in the next room. Ants in the kitchen, spiders in the living room, cobwebs everywhere. I would not stay here again

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. We are sorry the cottage did not meet your expectations. You are correct, the cottage is old. It has been in the family since the early '70s (and built in the '50s) and the cottage still retains the vintage look of its early days. The cottage is definitely not for someone looking for a modern, up-to-date city experience. Though the cottage is old, it should always be clean. We will definitely look into the musty smell and correct that. Thank you for letting us know.

Charming and quiet

  • 4 of 5

My old friends and I stayed here for a high school reunion, and the cabin was sweet and quiet. The quintessential Interlochen cabin in the woods. Thanks for making our reunion special. :)

Cute cottage/Restless Nights!

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was clean and in a great location! Access to the lake was easy and very beautiful! We were first surprised that there wasn't a tv but it was nice in the long run! Linens on beds and extra ones in drawers were clean and smelled fresh! Plenty of cooking utinsils! The front porch could be tidied up a bit- Perhaps a shed for those items! Our biggest complaint were the beds! They were terribly uncomfortable and made for a very restless night! They sink in the middle and should be replaced to give guests a better night sleep! Worst mattresses we've ever slept in! Would certainly revisit cottage if mattresses were replaced!

Owner's Response: So sorry the mattresses were so uncomfortable. They are all less than 5 years old, but we will look into why they did not feel good. A good night's sleep is so important during a vacation!
