About the property

Large, reverse-living 2BR/2BA house near SHARC, Village Mall and Fort Rock Park!

At 1578 sq ft, Butternut Retreat is one of the largest 2 bedroom homes in Sunriver, and we've packed it with great amenities. A major renovation was completed Summer 2015, including both bathrooms, new tile and carpeting throughout, rebuilt enclosed deck and new hot tub, and kitchen counter/sink and appliances.

We also provide six reusable pass cards for use of the Sunriver tennis courts and SHARC facility. There is an assortment of 5 adult bikes with helmets and a foldable ping-pong table in the garage. You will also find various sporting equipment in the garage including tennis rackets, basketball, etc.

There are three flatscreen TV's, including a 55" set new in 2015 for the living room. There are DVD and VCR players, as well as a Playstation 2 with games to go with it. And you can seach the shelves to find a collection of movies, books and board games. A stereo system provides music upstairs, and the home has high-speed Wi-Fi to connect your internet devices.

The kitchen is well-equiped with accessories, including a coffee maker, toaster, smoothie maker, electric griddle, crock-pot, blender, Henkels knives and many convenient kitchen tools. All the major kitchen appliances are 2012 or newer, including a side-by-side refrigerator with convenient ice/water door dispenser. A quality Ducane grill is outside on the deck.

There are two large bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed and the second bedroom has a queen bed. For additional bedding, there is a newer queen size, electrically inflatable bed located in the storage closet. Also in the closet, there is a port-a-crib and high chair to make traveling with little ones easier. A full size washer and dryer is on lower level.

The living room has two full-size leather sofas, one which has two individual reclining seats. The living room opens into the kitchen and dining room with seating for 6. Our dining room table is hand made from rustic wood by a local couple in Sunriver. The kitchen has a wide countertop extension with two bar stools on the back side.

All new dual pane windows were installed in 2009, which help keep the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The large upstairs windows provide great views.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was in a great location close to the SHARC, Fort Rock Park and the village. Everything was clean, looked like new carpet, TV's in all the rooms, wifi, and all kitchen appliances that you would need. Overall, great trip and house!

Snowy Thanksgiving Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay for Thanksgiving in Sunriver The home was very beautiful and cozy. We loved having the ping pong table , games and movies. The fully equipped kitchen was so nice for cooking. Having a pack n play was wonderful not having to bring an extra thing in the car. The Sharc facilty passes were Wonderful the older ones loved the whirlpool cyclone area and the tubing hill was a lot of fun. I would love to check it out in the summer time the outdoor area looks like a blast.

I was really looking forward to using the Jacuzzi at the house my husband and daughters used it but it was thick slime they were itchy instantly with a rash head to toe the filter was filled of something very rancid smelling it was dark out so he couldn't see what was in it. The Jacuzzi guy said he serviced it they day before we got there and set a apt to come check it out but never showed up. The homeowners were very nice and issued an extra refund for that they are very friendly and caring and were very attentive to helping in any way they could. The furnace was having some issues heating up past 60 degrees but once we had the oven and fireplace on it heated up comfortable till we went to bed and it would be cold again in the morning I think due to all the snow and very cold weather outside one morning was -15. The Sunriver resort was beautiful with all the Christmas lights and the North Pole my daughter loved the magician and crafts. Sincerely the Kessler family

Owner's Response: Hi Lauren, Thank you for your review. We were most concerned about your experience with the hot tub, as we have never has such an issue. I immediately contacted our hot tub guy upon hearing of the issue. Since owning the home, we've been using the same owner/operator hot tub servicer with great satisfaction, unlike you'll find with the general maintenance people the large management companies use. Our hot tub guy explained that he had serviced it the day before your arrival, and everything was fine. My wife and I were actually the last people to use the hot tub one month prior, and we thoroughly enjoyed it without issue. We replaced our old tub with this brand new one just this past Summer. It's a higher-quality, custom-ordered hot tub from West Coast Spas (Newport 2.0), an Oregon manufacturer. To address your experience, our servicer said that he added an anti-foam treatment, which can make the surface feel slippery. As for your daughter's rash, some people are just more sensitive to the high water temperature and chlorine, which was probably at the high end of the range due to the recent service. Regarding the smell, it was most likely the floating chemical dispenser. It sometimes floats around the filter inlet and can have a strong smell. As I said, this is a first, and we're very sorry about it. We spent the weekend following Thanksgiving at the home. I was curious to check out the hot tub and found it to be in pristine condition, enjoying a relaxing soak in the massage seat! Of less concern, the furnace checked out normal, and it was serviced, which will improve its efficiency a bit. The house is well insulated and has newer dual pane windows throughout. The Nest thermostat is connected to the internet via WiFi, so we are able to monitor and review the past temperatures in the house relative to the outside temperature. During your stay, it showed that the temperature dipped to a low of 62F early one morning when the outside temperature was -15F (47 degrees below freezing), a differential of 77 degrees. Maintaining 70 degrees would be difficult for most Sunriver homes during such an unusual cold snap. Nonetheless, I did see that the inside temperature reached a high of 73 degrees when the outside temperature rose a bit during your stay. We're sorry your stay wasn't perfect, but we're pleased you found that most of it was enjoyable. Sincerely, Eric and Tanya

Bright and spacious.

  • 4 of 5

Convenient to SHARC, Village and Fort Rock Park. Liked the reverse living for cool sleeping during 90 degree days. Enjoyed the hot tub on the private deck and the BBQ, but would have loved some BBQ tools for flipping burgers etc. and a small picnic table to eat outside would have been perfect. Bikes were great to use and loved having the trail a bike available. Lovely updated bathrooms with nice towels. With the pullout coach no longer available, we would have preferred two twin beds in the extra bedroom. Did not realize the train was so close, so that did wake us up when it went through. Overall, great place for our week and owner was responsive to our questions.

Owner's Response: Hi Carolyn, We appreciate your suggestions. It's always nice to get others' points of view to improve creature comforts. We visit often and usually make improvements and/or replace items when we go. Sorry the train woke you up. This is the first time we've heard that comment in the past four years. It's usually pretty quiet because the track has smooth welded sections, unlike a traditional "clickity clack" track. Also, unlike other homes on Butternut Lane, we are not adjacent to the track. Hopefully, they didn't blow the whistle - they're not suppose to do that when going through Sunriver. Thanks again! Eric and Tanya
